They hated that Al was a traditional Minnesota left-wing Democrat (like the late Sen. Paul Wellstone was) and that he was smart and funny enough to criticize the Republican shiftshow in Congress and get away with it. He couldn't refuse to step down because that would have given Republicans the opportunity to compare him to the likes of Roy Moore.

I have always considered myself to have a claim of coming from Minnesota. My great great grandparents homesteaded in the area around Montevideo. They had 12 children and helped build the first church. My great grandmother, my grandmother, my mother and I were all born in Montevideo. We came to CA when I was 5 .I was so proud Al came from the state of my roots. Remember he wanted hearings regarding claims and was denied. He left. He is on utube a lot and I always watch him.
