I was there for Hideo Nomo no hitter at Coors field. There was a 4hr rain delay. We went to the pub, then went back to watch the rest of his masterpiece when the game resumed. I live in Denver, a 4hr rain delay?.But I still tip my cap and saw a bit of baseball history. And I saw the 2nd Rockies homegame ever. So go Rockies.
Maybe its just me, but if you don't complete the game, its not a no hitter. At least not on an individual level. Still impressive, but not the same as going 9+ no hit innings.
I agree with your sentiment, but in a way, it's more impressive that multiple pitchers can keep a team from hitting, as there are so many more variables with each new pitcher.
@@BaseballAF that’s a team effort. Realistically, are you overly impressed when a bullpen throws 2 or 3 hitless innings? Or when a starter goes 6 without giving up a hit? Because that’s what the combined no no is. While the other is a single pitcher dominating for at least 9. Don’t get me wrong, team no hitters are cool, just not as cool, or to me as impressive, as a solo effort. Though context can alter that. A guy who goes 9 with no hits but walks a ton and gets very few Ks isn’t as impressive as a team effort with 10+ Ks and few walks. In the case of Ryan’s 7th, I can’t imagine any team no no is on that level of dominance. Loved the vid btw, been a Nolan fan since I knew what baseball was even though he was never on my Yankees. He’s my favorite player ever.
@@snerdterguson I appreciate the comment! Glad you enjoyed it as well. I'll see if I can find a singularly impressive team no hitter and compare it to some other good no hitters
What makes his 7th no-hitter all the more impressive is that, according to Tom House, Nolan had a terrible pre-game bullpen. He had a sore knee and his back hurt. Tom House was worried they might have to get someone up VERY early, because, to paraphrase Tom House, "Nolan doesn't have it today." Anyway, after one of the early innings where he's been dominating (the story is fuzzy as to whether it's after the 1st or second, AFAIK), he sits down next to Tom House, and Tom House asks him, "Nolan, what's going on?" and Nolan replies something like, "I don't know. but this is one of them there days." Then Nolan looks down the dugout and says, "Boys, just get me one. It's all I'm going to need today." The rest, as they say, is history.
technically roy halladay also has two no-hitters (thrown in the same season), but one of those was in the postseason. that 2010 season was unreal to watch as a kid.
Half his homers and doubles have came vs Dodger pitching in only 18% of his games played. He might not be back but perhaps is adjusting his approach at the plate with a back that’ll never heal unless he cycles HGH.
he also had 12 one hitters. he also had 18 2 hitters. the biggest stat that cannot be recorded is the ANIMAL stat that no other player will achieve. longevity. the man threw at above 100 mph for 27 years.
@@BaseballAF I did some digging last night and it looks like it was only 2 of those 12. 7-13-1979 against the Yankees (game is on here) and 4-23-1989 lol against the Blue Jays.

@@BaseballAF facts! I always said it with confidence anyways, but people are always saying something about his walks. Who cares is what I say. Name another pitcher that dominated in the fashion Ryan did with his no hitters? No one that's who lol
He did throw three, but one of them, he allowed a run in that game. So he had two "real" no-hitters. I should have maybe put that as a note, for no-hitter shutouts. Good catch though
what amazes me is the stats baseball people like to throw out to justify this and that. the fact that you stats to verify anything is anomalous. get a grip man. stop the math and move on. the greatest hitter is rose and the greatest pitcher is ryan. get over it.
Thanks!

I do hope the Rockies start turning things around, they're a fun franchise.

fookin sick vid
Thanks mate!
Pedro DID throw 9 perfect innings once
A guy named Harvey Haddix threw 12 perfect innings once because he couldn't get any run support and his team ended up losing to the braves.
If you could find the time span, I'd love to see it
@Baseball AF it was with the expos vs the Padres in 94 or 95....he took the mound im the 10th but allowed a bloop hit to bip roberts
Ah! Found it on June 5, 1995. What a fascinating game that is, I may do a video on that game in the future.

Some of the best games ever pitched had stories of awful bullpen sessions before the game (Kerry Wood's 20K game). Thank you for sharing that!
Love the video
thanks dude!

You're right by technicality, of course. Halladay was incredible at his best
nice vid
Thank you
The definition of "Built different": should just say "see Nolan Ryan"
To your point, I don't think we'll ever see a pitcher like Nolan Ryan ever again
this video is so well made, educational, enjoyable, and oozing with personality
deserved way more than 120 views! criminally underrated
Thanks so much! I hope it gets more traction eventually 😁
nice video glad i stumbled across this :3
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
This is your finest work, my god what a great video
wow, thanks so much, I put a lot of work into this one, I'm glad you appreciate it
A lot of people don't know this he had 12 one hitters that will never be equaled either .
That is a very good point as well
I could be wrong, but I believe he lost 6-7 no hitters with 2 outs in the 9th!
July 22, 1986, he went 9 1/3 with 1 hit ! Also July 19, 1973 he had 1 hit after 9 innings...so 14 times in his career had 1 hit after 9 innings !
YAY a Baseball AF Vid!!!
I hope you enjoy!
I have been dead for over 100 years, so I didn’t know much about this Nolan Ryan fella, so thank you for explaining Mr. F.
I'm glad to be the one to tell you about a guy that would have fit right in your era of baseball
Holy cow this is fantastic
thank you so very much! I put SO much effort into this one
Pedro got robbed a no hitter by his own teams offence.
I am very aware of that game, go figure they score a run in the 10th so he can try to do the impossible
I just came here to find out what the chart was that you teased earlier. Great video tho. Really good stuff.
Thanks bud, it's appreciated lots
larry corcoran?
Technically you're right, but I did specify from 1901. Corcoran threw all his no hitters before then.
Half his homers and doubles have came vs Dodger pitching in only 18% of his games played. He might not be back but perhaps is adjusting his approach at the plate with a back that’ll never heal unless he cycles HGH.
You missed the Bellinger vid with this one, bud

Thank you for stating facts about Nolan Ryan.
If I'm not mistaken I think 5 (possibly 7) of those 12 one hitters were no hitters going in to the 9th.

Love your content, but the "Golden Sombrero" is 4 strikeouts...
I did realize that after I had uploaded the video lol, I was waiting to be called out on it 😅
I'm assuming the 1975 no hitter also had a hit by pitch to cause 32 batters faced with 4 walks?
The extra plate appearance was due to an error made by the shortstop, but good catch on that!
@@BaseballAF Ah, ok thanks. I was trying to think what other possibilities there were and there it is. Shouldn't have doubted Nolan.
