I have this lens although I haven’t used it in many years. I bought my F1 in 1974 along with the 50mm f1.4 while stationed in England. I now own an R5 and my next purchase will be an FD-EOS R adapter! I’ve wanted to try this for some time now and seeing your videos on old lenses and adapting them to modern mirrorless bodies has my sense of nostalgia wound up. I remember how well the 24mm was at “flattening” the incredible towers of the many cathedrals and castles I visited while stationed there. Turning the camera to portrait mode while angling up to capture the height of the structures was almost as good as a tilt-shift lens. Thanks for your enthusiastic coverage of this nostalgic subject (and lens) 👍

I've been shooting Canon since the AE-1 was released. Last film camera I bought was a mint F1n and all that to say, I have a stable of FD glass and would love to use it on the Fuji XT-3 and Canon EOS 5D MKIV

I agree, I have a set of 24mm, 28mm, 50mm and 135mm and love them all. The FD S.C. and S.S.C. lenses are the best for sure. Newer ones, not the same feel at all.

Nice video mate. I ordered one just like it last week (except not a "rare O" version like yours) to further complete my modest SSC collection and I can't wait to use it. Especially after seeing your photos. Cheers

For years I avoided FDn lenses on eBay because I didn't know they are multicoated. I kept wondering, "Where are all the S.S.C. FDn's??"
Truth be told that's about all I look for today regarding FD. I appreciate the lower weight (on any camera body), smaller size, button latch design, and because they are newer there seems less chance of getting one with haze or fungus.
One nice thing about the older breech design is many of them "glide on" (begin to rotate and latch themselves) the moment they meet the body.

The later FDn 24mm 2.8 had 10 elements in 8 groups, lighter and slightly sharper.

I have seven FDn prime lenses. Bought them new in the 1980s. Some of them replaced older FDs of the same types. I must say, I got 20-plus years of hard (literal) field use out of my FDns (and still have them, they will shortly be working again on a Sony Alpha a7R II), and they are no less sturdy than the FDs that served me in the military in the late 1970s. (The FDns served me throughout my post-military climbing career, among other adventures.) I don't understand all these reviewers constantly bewailing the plastic construction of the FDn lenses. My decades of experience with both types show them to be equally durable and hard-wearing.

Thanks for the comment! the FDn's are much lighter for sure.. I think you are going to really enjoy them on a modern mirrorless camera..

I highly recommend using the hood that goes with this lens.

    Maybe try out an Olympus OM-System H.Zuiko Auto-W 24mm f2.8 MF sometime.

Hey Peter, I have a canon FD to m4/3 adapter that works well with my FD 50mm 1.8. Im not too familiar with the difference in the FD lenses with/without breach lock. Would a different adapter be needed due to the breach lock on the 24mm S.C.C.?
    Thanks for the video!

No mate you're good, it's essentially the same mount so you can use the same adapters.

I'm looking for a 24 mm (or 20 mm) F2.8 lens for EOS R. Do you recommend the EF24 or the FD24? They cost about the same on ebay. The FD has no AF, but is it better in other areas?

AF is unnecessary. The max range before infinite is 10 ft. I got my FD24mm for $80

Hello. The picture of my 24 2.8 ssc feels greener than the picture of 50 1.4ssc. Will yours be like this?

All fd lenses have the ssc coating, the red lettering was added later for marketing.
