I rode Helsinki Metro trains back in 2005 (Russian Broad Gauge 5ft + 2mm and 3rd rail for power), only the M100 and M200 were in service back then in their distinct dark orange colour with black pinstripe at the bottom. I mostly went on the 100 series. The 200 series you could sit within the entire 2 car portion, but the 100 series the carriages were individual. Usually 4 car sets, but sometimes 6 car sets during peak hours.
Very clean, safe and less delays with no rats in Finnish metros than NYC metros, the dirty one. This is why students get no homework in Finland as their reward for keeping everything clean in Finland 🇫🇮
All of the doors open automatically in the summer so there is no Need for the button. It’s Only used in winter. When it’s cold outside and they wanna keep the trains warm.
The 6 carriage trains would Not fit into the new stations. the extension’s stations were desingned for driverless automated metro schedule where the trains could’ve been shorter. When the stations were already build, hkl found out that it’s older m100 trains are Not suitable for automating. That is Why hkl is currently struggling to keep up with the schedules and the trains are always full. About 10 years from now, the metro will be fully automated when the old trains are remowed from traffic.

even old M100 trains are so polished up
Did you actually try to enter the train before other passengers got out?

Very rare to witness it horn also the driver doesn’t use the buttons (apart from the m200 bc it req to use the buttons before opening all the doors)

@@upiehsnake1389 and it's not that bad on underground stations. The ones which are above ground are more cold.
When I was in Helsinki (2012), trains had 6 carriages... Why have they suppressed 2, although the network has been extended since?
