Welcome to the final episode of season 7 & hopefully it is worth the watch! I enjoyed making the season & this episode I feel is a good way to end production!
After the PS1 emulation on PSP was unlocked, I played so many great Playstation games on it and had a blast. I also used it to listen to music and watched videos during train rides. That was long before all Smartphones could do that. Way ahead of it´s time.
It's indeed astonishing how well the PSP's PS1 backwards compatibility/emulation make it seem so close to the original. This is so neat, that even if the portable actually only played PS1 games, it would still be a great handheld, but the fact that it does so much more than that is just amazing. I remember wanting to play SM64 on it at the time, and recently they reversed engineered it so it run perfectly on the PSP, this handheld was so ahead of its time.
The PSP is absolutely fantastic & as you mentioned it can do so so much, a bit similar to a modern smartphone! The PSP was definitely ahead of its time :)
Exactly, even the NDS, they were released way before the smartphone craze, and that's also why the 3DS didn't do so well and specially the Vita became a shadow of what the PSP was, commercially speaking. The market wasn't there for them at that time, not forgetting the Wii U as well, while the PSP had a 16:9 widescreen, plenty of exclusive games, was backwards compatible with the PS1, we could watch videos, listen to music and even use skype in later revisions. This is still not touching emulation that was also a huge part of millions of users.
Very informative vid. On a related note, there's no big, high quality comparison of PS1 games on PS2 with textures smoothing on and off. You seem like one of the best person on youtube to suggest such a project to, for a future video...
I would be happy to explore this since I know many people do not cover this on the PS2 :) I'll definitely keep it in mind for a possible future video:)
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficialAh it's a japanese release only with translation patch? No wonder I've never seen it back then. Is it any good? What's your rating 1-10 about that game?
Yes, it is a Japanese only release & I always love to explore the library of those games :) I've only played an hour, but it seems promising from what little I tried :) I would say if you like turn based games, it will be up your alley!
commenting before watching, but just wanted to say I ALWAYS wanted to see this comparison. I play a lot of ps1 on Vita, so I've always been curious how the that compares to the original hardware
On my main channel or here, I made a video showing the PS1, PSP & PS VITA all playing PS1 games & comparing them if you want to see how the VITA does :) It's in my Season 6 playlist :)
It is very good & considering most of the games in this video saw no official release from Sony, getting the eboots to work in this manner is very impressive :)
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficialYep I know and that is how I play my psone games on the PSP. It is very impressive that the PSP CPU is basically a portable psone hybrid ps2 hardware.
I have a PSP Go with the docking station and play some games with my Dualshock 3 since it has Bluetooth. I wll say though, playing games on the actually PS1 hardware is the best more me. The way the PS1 controller thimbsticks abd buttons feel are way better with no lag.
There's no lag on the PSP either, but yes, playing with a proper controller will always be a better experience:) Having the ability to play most PS1 games on the go is a key selling point & I still love this fact with these portable devices :)
Actually I disagree, it is very good & if you play on the PSP screen it does replicate PS1 well :) It's not perfect but considering the age of the device and many eboots were not officially released for the PSP, the results are awesome :)
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial the reason why i find ps1 emulation on psp to be rather sucky is mainly due to lack of accuracy. It's about as accurate as ePSXe on Dynarec mode, which is lame (Interpreter mode is the true & definitive way to go there). The emulator on psp doesn't work as properly as a real ps1 (& ePSXe's Interpreter mode) should because it doesn't emulate load delay slots properly. And the real PS1 allows for proper assembly code changes anytime ingame, which is something the PSP emulator lacks.
@@Webardo1508 have you tried rapidly pressing square while holding select button? doing that on a ps1 controller is easy.. but doing it on a handheld console where select button is located on the right side of the device forced you to press and hold select using your left thumb, youll end up covering your psp screen with your hand

Absolutely, even today I still love the PSP for all those features that we now take for granted :) The system is still a little beast!

Playing final fantasy 8 on my psp go in the toilet back then was mind blowing. 😮
Btw what's this game called at 6:30?
I bet it was unbelievable 😁
All games & their names are all timestamped in the video description :)

Sweet I hope you enjoy this 😁 Anytime! Always love bringing games to attention :)

PSP has a MIPS CPU very similar to the psone , so emulation is basically on a hardware level

The PSP also still gets community support to this day :)
Honestly, I'm so glad I have one!
80% of the game is ran natively, some cpu processes have to be emulated
Was always surprised at just how smooth ps1 games were on the psp. Bummed the vita support died so quickly after release
I love how PS1 games look on PSP :)
It is & I'm sad the Vita never reached its full potential 🫣
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial I'm glad I have one though the homebrew community is great
Both handhelds are excellent in that regard 😁

With the lag, I'm talking about when I'm using a Dualshock 3 with my PSP Go, not from the console directly
Ah fair enough, I don't own the Go but that makes sense with Bluetooth technology of the time :)

playing Final Fantasy VIII on psp while casting a GF with Boost is a dissaster..
Ooooo why? :o
What's the issue with it? It may be fixable now that we have more control over the emulator's settings on PSP/Vita
