Nice looking greenhouse and veggies, Joe did good. Talking cherry tomatoes. I've had cherry tomatoes grow beyond the 8 foot supports go out to the garden fence and grow along the top of the fence for another 15 foot. They were 20 to 25 ft long. I had no idea cherry tomatoes could get so big.
It all turned out so nice! Joe is a really great builder, I'm so impressed with his skills. Also very nice gardening skills.... everything looks so green and lush. Kudos to a beautiful greenhouse. Enjoy!
I love it.. nice job.. and I believe this is the best all around video I’ve seen with building a greenhouse and showing fruits of your labor.. thank you and happy gardening
I just came across your Channel and was looking for some ideas for a greenhouse. You folks have done an excellent job not only building it, and filling it with some very healthy looking plants. By the way, in the future if you make any more buildings that you are going to put stain on, you may want to stain all of the wood prior to assembling. This way all sides of it will be done. I pray that you will have a blessed day today and everyday.
Thank you so much for that sweet comment! We sure appreciate it! And we did notice after the fact that there were some boards that we missed sides that needed stain lol...ahhhh it is what it is right? 😉 Thanks again for your kind comment & thanks for watching! I hope your greenhouse turns out beautifully! 😊
I just realized that you were commenting on our 1st greenhouse video! We have done another greenhouse at our new property where we actually did stain ALL the wood prior to building lol. We learned our lesson after the first greenhouse, what a pain it was to stain it after it was built! So thanks for the advice & I totally agree with you on that! 😉
Amazing video i love it! I'm using this video to build mine, do you remember if Joe added any type of material between the concrete and the dirt? plastic? gravel or anything?
I would have done things different but what works for you - works for you, 1 question: Why not grow in what you call the floor area? You paid for the space you might as well use it! Unless this is a starter (seedling) greenhouse I would have made it bigger, I like the shelving and bench idea but I think I would have made it about 18 x 120 having about having 10 - 12 feet to plant every week so it would be ready to harvest every 90 days adding a wood stove or outdoor furnace allows growing year round. Just suggestions as I am looking at feeding myself not just a summer venture. overall good job. Being in Canada I prob would have used 2x6 on the exterior walls and 2x10 for the roof.
@@HomeFreeAlaska well, i have 6 boys.... i know how important weapons are to them! I have to say how impressed i was that he was completely clothed. At my house it would have been cowboy boots, underwear probably a hat and a pistol. LOL
Nordic Star Homestead yes!!!! I usually can’t keep a shirt or shoes on our boy! But we love it don’t we?! Wouldn’t want it any other way! Wow 6 boys?! I bet I could learn a thing or two from you! Blessings to you and your family! 💜
Has this GH stayed warm for you since you used single layer plastic? I am going to build one now and I"m thinking about double pane poly carbonate panels but they are not cheap!
You use less panels if you run them horizontally. You don’t have to cut panels. On the roof, we did them vertical that way the rain water would run off.☺️
I read the footers were 5 1/2” wide can you ask joe if her remembers how deep there were. Thankyou. We are fixing to build one very similar to how y’all’s was.
Hey Mike! I’m sorry, but we actually don’t have plans for this greenhouse. I just told Joe the size greenhouse I wanted and we went from there. It ended up being 15x10.
Hi friend, it was from Lowes, Thompsons water seal brand & I can’t exactly remember the color but I know it had the word “timber” in it. Maybe “timber brown.”😊
Thomas I’ve added the links for the fans and solar panel equipment we purchased for the greenhouse. You can locate the links in the description section of this video. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/f-eRF65JIeA/w-d-xo.html
The rain barrel setup, how is the pressure for you? I have one rain barrel same size and i have it up on 3 stacks of block and have like no pressure, but i heard there is ways to get it.
Need to put 1/2" hardware cloth in 2 different places so bees can pollinate the plants flowers, all squash or melon plants require pollination from bees, if they can't get inside the plant will not produce anything.
Hi! The dimensions of the greenhouse was 10X16ft. We didn’t calculate the pitch, my husband just held the 2X4s up & asked me where it looked good & I told him. We just eye balled it & went for it.😊
The wife, films, edits & uploads these videos for you to enjoy! Plus the wife, holds boards, hauls boards, stains boards, passes screws etc! We’re a team!😘
I'm building an 8x12x6 greenhouse now. I have pretty much everything purchased and it'll be close to 2k give or take. I'm using 8mm polycarbonate, that was expensive. 70$ for a 2x8 sheet, I bought 17. It'll be functional not fancy. Being north of 7, it'll fit in.
@@HomeFreeAlaska Cool! Thanks for the reply. Just cleared a space out back & a greenhouse is in order. Also, I’m in Virginia and will be here for quite some time, Happy Holidays!
Thanks, i have a follow up question. I am gonna build a similar greenhouse this or next summer. Is it allowing enough sun to get in? i mean wouldent clear transparent glass or polycarbonate "glass" be better for the plants inside?
We don’t get snow where we lived in VA, where this was built so there’s nothing that’s going to “snap” it off. It’s been up for about 5 yrs now, still doing great!😉
@@HomeFreeAlaska OK. Q: did you have to cut the plastic in someway? And with that tool? Please please pease show me. And is that plastic hail resistant? how did you decide to run the polycarb. horizontal, instead of vertical? Thanks. looks so beautiful btw
You use less panels if you run them horizontally. You don’t have to cut panels. On the roof, we did them vertical that way the rain water would run off.☺️

We got it at Lowes.😉

lol lilman got that burner. lol
What did yall use at the peak where the 2 sides meet to seal that gap to keep rain water out?
We just used the clear plastic and made a roof cap.

Joe said they were about 4-5” deep. 😊

We never had an issue with pressure on ours. Just came right out! 😊
What's the best garden plastic you have used? We are tired of battling the weeds here in VA as well.
I don’t have a particular brand, we just buy ours from Amazon. ☺️
Your mint will take over the whole garden like crazy, you should put them in a separate planter .
I don’t mind them taking over, it’s beautiful ground cover.😊
My mans was zombie ready 😂
@@travischerrt1350 he was LOL!😂
Is the cement not sucking up water from the soil and rot the wood because of the direct contact?
Nope not at all. 😊
Yeah, that’s more than I can do.
How has the plastic sides held up? I see this video is from 4 years ago.
Yes, they have. We don’t live there anymore, we’ve since moved to Alaska but I know the new owner!😊 Those plastic sides are good & durable.

Hi there. No, we actually only grow crops that do not need bee pollination in our greenhouses. Such as lettuces etc. But thanks for your comment!
I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the comment. I want to build a greenhouse this summer. I'm very new to this so I appreciate the comment
I might have missed it in the video, but what are the dimensions and what pitch did you do on the roof?

it is usefull to put a few braces to keep things straight and square
I've always wondered how the tomatoes are pollenated in a green house?
Yep, they are self pollinating plants. Just give them a shake every now and then. Thanks for watching. 😊
If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to build?
To be honest we have no idea. We didn’t keep track of everything. Sorry we don’t have any answer for you.
do you use all treated wood right?
No we did not. But we did stain it.
@@HomeFreeAlaska thank you, I'm about to build my bench for the greenhouse but kind of confused between treated and un-treat one,
What are the dimensions please? It looks great!
This green house was 10x16.
