I really believe we might catch ole miss sleeping when we play them. I would say our defensive front will be their biggest test yet but hell at this point I’d say our defensive front will be everyone’s biggest test. We started the season over looked, and now we have everyone’s attention. Gotta fix the run defense and get better tackles. But that qb pressure we put on is REAL.

Broke ncaaa record points in a quater with 37 points in 1st qauter and then 28 in second with 2nd amd 3rd string and nico on bench . Half of second quarter with nico. On the bench. So back ups scored 30 something points out of 71 scored . The d line is 4 deep at each position and just rotate them in every series. Plus hypel wants revenge really bad. As a Sooner fan and new listener, I’ve lost some love and respect “cousin Mike”: you rank right out there with the best of journalists( I respect your broad reading and thoughtfulness), but you do fall flat compared to some of the team-specific analysts out there…(eg,look up Barry&Mack and Ted&Ike podcasts for OU analysis). In your ranking “analysis”, you’re being way too superficial by looking chiefly at the QB situation and forgetting the rest of the injured list. OU has been limping around with 4 starting WRs and 2+ starting OLs disabled at least part of the time…half of those players are expected back for TN, so yes TN better respect us as much as we respect them or else… I appreciated your comment about their new/untested secondary. Deion Burks has been rendered “statistically weak”/ineffective by both Houston and Tulane by being constantly double teamed and the young pups filling in ran bad routes and dropped balls all over, but if AAnthony and N Anderson can come back, and if we can get 1-2 OL men back, TN is gonna have their hands full in Norman. I’m a total novice, having never played, so my eye test is myopic at best, but from what I saw in the TN-NCS game, it seems that TN and OU defenses are on a par as far as speed/strength, and neither secondary has been heavily tested yet…agree OU’s safeties might have an edge, but our CB situation is not ideal either (Washington has a ton of experience but can be beat with a little speed, Gentry Williams has been out and the young pups filling in are fast but not as experienced). Our OL is forever a work-in-progress the first 3-4 games and injuries have hurt a lot already (we’ve been on our 3-4th center the past 1.5 games), so if 2 starters can return in close to 100% form, we COULD be happily surprised on Sat…in meantime, you’re right that the OL is our weakest link(with a close second from our 2nd string WR room), besides Arnold’s inexperience…which gets us to the crux of the matter: I haven’t watched the famed TN-Iowa bowl game but having watched TN-NCS, I’m not so scared of “The NICO” factor: he played pedestrian in much of that game: (211 passing yards vs Arnold’s 169), lots of short-intermediate passes, missed a few long passes (just like Arnold) and threw 2 interceptions (worse than Arnold)…they both look decently mobile, Nico a bit more so perhaps. In the end, as usual the OU-TN game will come down to the trenches, “who wants it more badly” for the full 60 min, which young talented QB will wake up more inspired/mistake-free, which OL will protect longer and help the run against talented front 7,etc. Turnovers could easily be the deciding factor, as usual in close games. This will likely be a new “Red River Rivalry”, at least this year, and for the foreseeable future likely, which means statistics mean very little! Barring a ton of turnovers, I would expect the OU defense to keep it close in the 1st half with aggressive and confusing looks/blitzes, but TN should settle in and adjust in the 2nd half and then the OU offense will really swim or sink, as will the TN secondary…

If we're going just by the eye test then my VOLS look #1 but we really haven't played anyone really tough yet. That's gonna change Saturday when we play at OU. Back to back weeks I think your assessment of OU is right on. The O line hasn't come together at all.
They got 7 days to come togehter. Just a reminder and I don't care who they where playing. It was 65 to 0 at halftime for vols . Broke ncaaa record points in a quater with 37 points in 1st qauter and then 28 in second with 2nd amd 3rd string and nico on bench . Half of second quarter with nico. On the bench. So back ups scored 30 something points out of 71 scored . The d line is 4 deep at each position and just rotate them in every series. Plus hypel wants revenge really bad. This game is massive for the head coach. Better come toghter sooners or will be another blow out for vols

As a Sooner fan and new listener, I’ve lost some love and respect “cousin Mike”: you rank right out there with the best of journalists( I respect your broad reading and thoughtfulness), but you do fall flat compared to some of the team-specific analysts out there…(eg,look up Barry&Mack and Ted&Ike podcasts for OU analysis).
In your ranking “analysis”, you’re being way too superficial by looking chiefly at the QB situation and forgetting the rest of the injured list.
OU has been limping around with 4 starting WRs and 2+ starting OLs disabled at least part of the time…half of those players are expected back for TN, so yes TN better respect us as much as we respect them or else…
I appreciated your comment about their new/untested secondary. Deion Burks has been rendered “statistically weak”/ineffective by both Houston and Tulane by being constantly double teamed and the young pups filling in ran bad routes and dropped balls all over, but if AAnthony and N Anderson can come back, and if we can get 1-2 OL men back, TN is gonna have their hands full in Norman.
I’m a total novice, having never played, so my eye test is myopic at best, but from what I saw in the TN-NCS game, it seems that TN and OU defenses are on a par as far as speed/strength, and neither secondary has been heavily tested yet…agree OU’s safeties might have an edge, but our CB situation is not ideal either (Washington has a ton of experience but can be beat with a little speed, Gentry Williams has been out and the young pups filling in are fast but not as experienced).
Our OL is forever a work-in-progress the first 3-4 games and injuries have hurt a lot already (we’ve been on our 3-4th center the past 1.5 games), so if 2 starters can return in close to 100% form, we COULD be happily surprised on Sat…in meantime, you’re right that the OL is our weakest link(with a close second from our 2nd string WR room), besides Arnold’s inexperience…which gets us to the crux of the matter: I haven’t watched the famed TN-Iowa bowl game but having watched TN-NCS, I’m not so scared of “The NICO” factor: he played pedestrian in much of that game: (211 passing yards vs Arnold’s 169), lots of short-intermediate passes, missed a few long passes (just like Arnold) and threw 2 interceptions (worse than Arnold)…they both look decently mobile, Nico a bit more so perhaps.
In the end, as usual the OU-TN game will come down to the trenches, “who wants it more badly” for the full 60 min, which young talented QB will wake up more inspired/mistake-free, which OL will protect longer and help the run against talented front 7,etc. Turnovers could easily be the deciding factor, as usual in close games. This will likely be a new “Red River Rivalry”, at least this year, and for the foreseeable future likely, which means statistics mean very little!
Barring a ton of turnovers, I would expect the OU defense to keep it close in the 1st half with aggressive and confusing looks/blitzes, but TN should settle in and adjust in the 2nd half and then the OU offense will really swim or sink, as will the TN secondary…
