It was beaten out of him. He reveals it in a dialogue line. He doesn’t know how to express affection and is simultaneously afraid of doing it, as he has been convinced that it is “weakness”.
5:51 "You oughta watch over yourself; the Emperor can be fickle." Honestly, I get it. If you were on a planet that was basically left alone to hold out against the *literal gate to Hell* for ten thousand years, and no one came to help until it was too late to make a difference, you'd probably be resentful too.
He’s my favorite voice, and the one I’ve used since the beginning of the game. At one point in my games he was asked if he had any hopes or dreams. He replied, “I don’t have dreams. They were beaten out of me.” He has been conditioned to view affection as weakness. Everyone he has ever known in the past is dead. He can’t get attached. As a result, his personality is gritty and at first, arrogant, rude and hateful. He has a strong air of superiority about him. But later, you can observe that he has no idea how to express affection, gratitude, or appreciation. Or rather, he’s afraid to. Take this conversation with the always wholesome big man: 6:18 -- It’s extremely obvious that the Cutthroat has taken a liking to our Ogryn. Ogryn responds, and it’s almost like Cutthroat snaps out of it and remembers his fear of showing “weakness” through affection. Very complicated character portrayed excellently through voice lines alone.
It is good to see that Cuttroat and Savant seem to respect each other more than rest, although they would not admit it. One of the few relationships between characters I care about, as they both clearly been scarred and definitely benefit from this small bond they formed.
"yes, SARH!" "thank you for asking, SARH!" "watching the flank, SARH!" Ogryn and cutthroat's interactions bring me so much joy , 😄 i just cant 😆 "i like you anyway, SARH!" 😭
I might be dense but I don't get the PLS Speciman joke Unless he means Preschool Language Scale and Morrow was saying basically "yeah you can talk like a pre-schooler" while the veteran is going "U WOT?"
Wised we got more of the cutthroat and female psyker loner interactions. Cutthroat's angry seriousness + Loner's sarcastic sassyness with her little voice = funny
Oh man, bully ogryn has more headshot lines? Man, I wish those played just killing stuff yourself, always sounded weird for him to say "eat it!" at someone else headshotting someone, wish he was proclaiming it to himself when shooting down a horde. Heck, that convo is bugged to hell, they stop (at least for me) at the "you bein' funny?" line. I just want that "I love killing!" line tbh, haha.
I have a question: do Male and Female versions of the same voice type have any notable differences even? Like is Cutthroat Male and Female literally the same just in opposite gender, or do they have any unique dialogues specific just to them too?
Yeah i noticed big differences between genders in some. Male Loose cannon for exemple is slightly more cowardly and chill than the female loose cannon (she's kind of an ass and definitely has some self destructive tendencies)
They say the same things, but lines aren't always exactly identical. And obviously each actor put their own little spin on the delivery (tone, pacing, etc.). So they do feel a bit different in the end. That's the main reason why my vet's a female for example - I really liked the vibe of the female Professional.

@@sivel7493 Interesting, thank you for the answer guys! In that case fingers crossed for the poster possibly uploading female variants too. Would love to hear them as well. :)
Thank you for posting this. I haven't had the chance to hear a lot of what I recorded and this is a great source.
I mean, play darktide and you’ll hear a LOT of your lines. There are a lot of people who love the work you put into fleshing out this character!
You brought so much life and characterization to the cutthroat, seriously among the best voice performances in the game.
He’s a surprisingly wholesome person, in his own way lol
Professional’s my main, but this guy’s pretty good as well, really seems like he cares under the vicious, angry persona he puts on

@@absoluteandrew398 Yup, when you overload plasma and vent it he will snap and go "ARGH- SHOW NO WEAKNESS!". He's psychologically traumatised

Who would win? The trauma of a soldier whose planet got torn apart... or the unremitting kindness of an Ogyrn?
“Agh… show no weakness”

Wish I could hear more dialogue between the female Savant and male Cutthroat, they're my two favorite personalities.

Really like the relationship Cutthroat has with Savant. They’re a perfect foil for one another.
For CADIA!!!

apparently each gender of the same "personality" does have differing voice lines, interactions and conversations.

Sad i was expecting the well-known banter with Veteran Male A about Cadia. ☹
I wouldnt really call that bonding lol
My favorite is the enforcer
Just a question will you add the psyker voice in their head when they reached 100%?
Copy That.
