    Thanks mate for the video. Well isn't that awesome bought a beautiful Alcock pool table that suits world rules about a year ago. Guess Ill have to save up and buy a new table :) I can see that the pockets are "squared" off and I've heard that the cloth has no nap. What are the size differences if any. Also is the transition between the two different table an easy one or is it just a rule based change that I need to worry about. Keep the videos coming Thumbs up!!

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate these tables are about $3500ish so I’m tipping the Alcock is more expensive.
      These tables are slightly smaller and the tables do have nap they are just a finer cloth.
      Yes game play is a little different because you can knock balls is slightly easier but it always comes down to mapping.

    Just to qualfy one comment you made when you said that in England (or the UK) that a golden break and a golden duck is allowed to either win or lose on the break: that is only the case with Monday night pool ( as I call it). Monday night pool is a leque competition, it's first to 4 frames with a 20 minute match clock. This competition was a development of speed pool which used to be played with black ball rules but during covid they adopted the international rules format ( in the UK international rules is usually referred to as ultimate pool).
    The challenger series, however, is played on weekends full when full international rules apply with a longer match clock about 40 or 50 minutes, I think. There is no golden break or golden duck. I hope that clears that up. There is good prize money to be had if you're ever tempted to play in the UK. it's the same rules. The standard is possibly the best in the world. You can see some of these matches on you tube.

    After the old snooker does your ball have to hit the cushion or is it ok if just the white hits the cushion

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  ปีที่แล้ว

      In international rules, there’s no total Snooker, so after you hit the object ball, either the white ball or the object ball has to hit a rail after contact or any other Ball for that matter.

  • @rockhardron4936
    @rockhardron4936 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I assume it's loss of frame if you pot the black after making initial contact with your object ball?
    Instead of loss of turn as it is when you pot an opponent's ball after initial contact with your own

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have to pot the black separately, but it’s ok if you’re on the black pot it and pot opponents ball.

    Great vid. Wish I’d found it sooner. If you use a combination shot to pot your opponents last ball and leave them snookered on the black, is this a foul shot (giving them ball in hand) or a legal tactic and just loss of turn?

    Is only a deliberate foul if you dont attempt to hit your own ball first? What if for some reason you hit your ball first but deliberately dont hit a cushion because you roll your ball into a pack of theirs to impede them for example?

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if the umpire thinks you did it on purpose then and clearly didn’t hit it hard enough then I think they could call loss of frame.

    • @shaunhill1701
      @shaunhill1701 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelScerri147 I appreciate that, but it's a gap on the rules so I'm not sure how they could. Theirs a lof of language of "accidentally" in the standard fouls section, and on loss of frame they use "deliberately" a lot, but this example isn't covered and others are explicitly, the closest only refer to striking the on ball first- 6f Loss of frame fouls
      (1) Deliberately not playing a ball from their own group first, or an on ball after a foul, or; (5)A player who clearly and intentionally fails to make an attempt to play a ball(s) of their own group.
      Realistically it could be covered under "6f (2)Unsporting behaviour / bringing the game into disrepute.Including but not exclusive to:...." but it's not similar to any of those examples in that section.
      Maybe pedantic nuance, but this is where important frames can be won and lost in the detail

    At one of the pubs in Ireland I had white ball in hand & I was told that I cannot put the white ball anywhere behind the line even if I am breaking. There was an arc behind the centre of the line and they said white ball must go inside the arc, I've tried to check on the rules & I couldn't find it. How true was that?

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @MichaelScerri147

      Thanks for watching with international rules it’s only ever 1 shot ball in hand never 2 shots.
      Only off a legal break if the white ball goes in the pocket to get ball in hand behind the bulk line or if it’s a foul break or white jumps off table then it’s ball in hand anywhere 1 shot only.

    This all makes sense up until the change over shot at the end where a deliberate foul is played by potting the red and leaving the yellow over the pocket. If it is a deliberate foul then as explained earlier it should be loss of game surely. This has always been a pet hate of mine that you can deliberately foul and gain an advantage by doing so.

    • @MichaelScerri147
      @MichaelScerri147  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate this shot was just a loss of turn shot because the player was on yellow’s and played his yellow onto the red which is legal.

      @@markpritchard4427 nope it’s called a change over shot or loss of turn but not deliberate.

  • @DAVIEG1102
    @DAVIEG1102 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Very informative video but these international rules are crap, having to hit a cushion when snookered is a shocking rule because it encourages hit and hope shots and potentially flukes so it eliminates the skill of escaping snookers, handing over control of the table to the opponent after potting the black ball on the break is another terrible rule because it really penalises the breaker.

  • @middleagedshred

    Some of the rules make sense others don't. I know it's designed to entertain and speed up the game but really it's a one sided match now. Any decent player can win very easily. As for potting the black and you opponents ball is pathetic. It a bloody foul in any game of pool. Not sure who wrote these rules but that rule is a joke.
