New York has a lot to offer. Broadway, Central Park, Times Square, the museums, and the list goes on. One of my favourite cities to visit b/c you can walk to just about everything or take a short subway/cab ride. I do understand why people hate it though.

People are actually moving back INTO Detroit, but mainly the downtown district due to the many new condos and apartments going up. Many are sold before they're finished. Many of the run down areas bordering downtown are being revitalized. The city has a ways to go, but it is getting nice.

@@thedirtybubble9613 you act like that’s a bad thing. Everyone else left, now it’s dirt cheap and people move back and you go, “gentrification.”
Gentrification is when majority groups purchase up low value housing, raise the rent, and force others out. It used to be an issue when banks collaborated against minority communities to not give them loans.
Everyone left Detroit. It went from a population of 2 million down to a population of 600,000. There’s a lot of empty homes to be renovated, and dirt cheap land to buy up. So now people are moving back to snatch that up. That’s the opposite of gentrification.

I lived and/or worked in a small city in Northwest Georgia for most of my life. At one point, I lived on the west side of town and worked on the east side of town. I lived a little more than 5 miles from work. There were several left turns where you could only turn left on a green arrow. It wasn’t uncommon for it to take 25-30 minutes to get to work.
I moved to a smaller town 19 miles southeast of where I worked. I got to work quicker when I lived 19 miles away. The only left turns were from the street I lived on to the highway that ran between the two towns and then turning left into the parkway lot at work. The intersection to get on to the highway had a four stop. There only three traffic lights on that highway between home and work.

When Detroit gets its crime under control, it’s gonna take off. There’s almost entire neighborhoods that possess empty lots that have all the utilities leading to them. It’s also smack dab in the middle of a major waterway. That is the initial reason it got so prominent in the first place (cars came later), and that waterway has improved since then. Plus, it’s dirt cheap - if crime is brought to a reasonable level, it’s a place for young people who can take their jobs with them to move to as it would be an incredible bargain for them (as people will still disparage even when crime will be low). A safer Detroit will be an attractive location for logistics firms; that could be the basis for an economic revival. New blood moving in to a safer Detroit will bring the initiative and funds needed to revive the place - the economy will somewhat follow.

You have to book ahead. Before you truly make up your mind to never return, I encourage you to actually plan for a night or two there (not while passing through). Research it well, and go with an open mind. If it's still not your thing afterwards, then cross it off the list. Most big cities in the United States have some good points to go along with the bad. There are a few, however, I have yet to find any positive characteristics. Detroit, Gary, Flint, Rockford, Fall River, Long Beach, Oakland and Bridgeport are among those.

I've lived in Chicago for 42 years. I'm 76 and will probably not live to see this city ever solve it's money problems. I love Chicago, but if you live in a nice neighborhood on the Northside, the property taxes are brutal and getting worse because of the insatiable need for more and more revenue Still, it is WAY less expensive overall to live here as compared to LA or NYC..
