  • Just about everything in this film is named ‘Zug’ : the boat I took the trip on is called Zug ; the town I live in is called Zug, and it lies in the Canton of Zug in Switzerland. All this is quite appropriate because my apartment looks onto Lake Zug, so it is the first and last thing I see every day !
Lake Zug lies between Lake Lucerne and Lake Zürich. It is 14 km long (8.7 miles) and the water that feeds it comes mainly from two rivers, the Lorze and the Rigiaa. However neither of these really supplies enough water into Lake Zug, so we have to be very careful not to pollute the lake, because it doesn’t have enough flow to cleanse it.
My film this time was of the cruise from Arth to Zug, a beautiful trip with lovely views, and sailings from mid-April to mid-October. You could combine it with a half-day visit to one of the attractions listed below, or you could do a typically Swiss thing and choose a ‘culinary cruise’, which gives you a posh lunch or evening gourmet meal while you are sailing. If that is a bit more than you wanted, there is ordinary catering on board as well.
The trip in my three minute film stopped at Immensee and Oberwil, and gave good views of the village of Walchwil, and Mounts Rigi and Zugerberg, the mountain behind Zug itself, along the way.
