    I like it. Best razor I ever used but I can hardly afford them so bought it and some shaver heads and decided I would use it sparingly. I just busted one out and used it for 14 days before it got too dull to use. So not too bad considering the disposables I use only give me two to three shaves before they cut the hell out of me.

    You did an absolutely great job narrating and sharing your experience, being completely professional and down to earth.
    I had already purchased the defender 3 days prior to viewing your review, and had seen many other reviews that were done with no where near the heart and soul.
    Haven't received in the mail yet after ordering the regular, the sensitive, and the extra sensitive, along with the shave cream.
    One of my primary concerns with the product is how long lasting the blades are,
    I remember back in the '70s the single blades would last a long time so I think blades are no longer as thick, sharp and long-lasting as they used to be.
    So again, my only question now, is how long lasting they are?
    We'll see!
    But thanks again
    for a great review.
    Peace, from
    d - a Whitestone

    This has been the most detailed review of the Defender Razor with even talking about how they came to be to even the customer service. I received mine about 10 days ago and love it. Have you seen the new metal handles they offer now? Since in your review did even mention about the weight of the original handle. It would be cool to do a follow up review with the new product line and how you still like it. Anyways, thanks for the great vid, I really enjoyed it.

    When it comes to modern cartridge shaving system brands Defender is head and shoulders above all the more recent start up companies. They have a good understanding on what actually provides a great shave, and it’s not just adding 7 blades and God knows whatever else. I’ve been a shaving enthusiast for sometime and rank Defender #1 as a company and tied with performance for a great shave with no ingrown hairs or irritation with the Gillette Skinguard. I like how you added some background on the company. I researched them myself sometime ago and was very happy they aren’t just another rebrand like “dollar shave club”. Their customer service is the absolute best. No debate. My only suggestion to them...which I’ve been talking to them about for years is releasing a “deluxe” heavier handle. They say it’s in the works. We’ll see...but if it does come out I think this product will be nearly perfected. Good video. Thanks!

    I went ahead and purchased the Leaf shave razors and Defender razor. The Leaf while impressive it left me with nicks and cuts on my head whereas the Defender didn’t. Leaf was $100+ defender well, a lot cheaper by a huge margin l! I may return the Leaf and stay with Defender instead. I’ve tried many razors, Supply, Dollar Shave Club, Harry’s you name it! Defender ranks on top! But with that being said, Defender feel cheaply made hence all the plastic and rubber being used. The Leaf razor feels well made, but a super premium price of $100+ Defender is like $5 I think 🤔 shipped free! That’s hella cheap! Also, with the Leaf razor I received nicks, cuts and almost bled to death! well, kinda exaggerating with the bleeding part but I did suffer some cuts, irrational, and nicks. That maybe due to a learning curve of the fact that it’s a single edge blade system. The Defender is a nice system but like I said, while useful, feels cheaply made and I totally understand as to why because they want you to focus on purchasing their blades. It would be nice if Defender made a premium handle but??? Anyway, the Defender shaves pretty impressively...!

    Just received my Defender Razor and oh boy is it great! Love the features and design of the blade and cool little suction cup thingy that comes with the blade (I have mine sticking to my mirror, for now, lol) I was hesitant on purchasing this at first since I've gone through many blades and so very glad I made the gamble decision to try Defender Razor! The smoothest non-hair pulling or remotely close to hurting shave I've ever had. I highly recommend getting the shaving cream and also the pre-shave oil (I'm getting the Pomegranate oil next) as it really helps the shave be nice and close which leaves everything looking/feeling very smooth and not to mention smells great! I also purchased the Styling Blade which I'm so glad I did makes it super easy to create easy detailing/touch-up lines My shave looks nice crisp super close cut and clean! This shave with the shaving cream/pre-shave oil has left my skin feeling absolutely great!

    I have the double-headed one for my head and the handle for daily face. Put sensitive (gray) on the double, extra sensitive on the handle (blue). Love it! Paired with the Pacific Shaving company bambo, natural creme, and caffeinated after shave. I found the defender shaving cream a bit to thick and sticky in nature. The caffeinated after shave I use feels great on the head and a little dab will do ya. Great for the head as you can shave, shave flip, shave shave rinse and it's comfortable in the hand. Quick speed. This one with the easy clean out makes shaving your head so much easier and extends the use of the cartridge. I also enjoy not having the good in the cartridges. They've redesigned so the soft guards are gone, but work just fine if not better now.

    With the independently flexing blades, I'm assuming you need to use a bit of pressure to take advantage of the design

    • @NotAHairModel
      @NotAHairModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi david - thanks for taking the time to comment! The blades flex pretty easily, so I didn't need much extra pressure beyond what I would normally apply. Even the note from Defender said to use very little pressure, so I made sure to listen. :-) The concave areas where I noticed them flexing were from my jawline down to my neck and it worked great to just let the razor do its thing. Hope that info helps!

    Okay I need an honest opinion. I started with dollar shave clubs best blade and they were good minus alot if clogging due to the space of the blades. So I switched to Harry's and have been using them for a couple of months which by the way like you I was happy when I saw they included a travel guard but I like the closeness of the shave equal to DSC and the convenience of being able to subscribe or just go to Walmart or Amazon and get a refill is great but the lubrication strip on the Harry's blade is kinda one and done which is inconvenient cause obviously you can get at least a couple of uses off the blades if cared for correctly but basically my question is how do the two compare to this razor and is it worth the transition in your opinion?

    • @NotAHairModel
      @NotAHairModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert! Thanks for watching and commenting - Great Question!
      Before going to the Defender, you may want to consider trying the DSC 4X first. Personally, I'm a huge fan because it clears out easier and doesn't have the extra trimmer blade. It'll give you more spacing in-between the blades and it'll have a familiar feel since you already have the handle. Not sure if you have the Dorco DSC (2012) or the Unilever DSC (2019) handle, but the 2019 versions are far superior.
      IMHO the Defender gives a better shave than both DSC and Harry's, BUT it does indeed take some patience (especially when choosing which blade option works best for you) with the learning curve of getting used to the feel of it and also a break-in period for your skin. It's worth the transition if you're willing to put a little extra time in the process.
      Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, again!

    Great video, I’ve been looking into this razor and it looks very interesting. How do you compare it to Harry’s and the new DSC razor for head shaving?

    • @NotAHairModel
      @NotAHairModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Zak Boxer - Great question that I'll do my best to answer it! Harry's is my least favorite, but not because it doesn't do a nice job on my head. It actually did a really nice job on my head, even though they have written everywhere to NOT use it on your head (I'm still confused about that one). Harry's did rip up my face and neck pretty bad and I don’t think I should have to use 2 different razors to get the whole job done. Recently, Harry's started advertising "new sharper blades" - I haven't tried them out yet, but will soon. I'm not holding out hope that they'll be any better, but I'll give them a fair shot. Obviously, they updated them for a reason, so we'll see.
      The 2019 DSC Executive (6-blade) clogs too much for my liking, so the 2019 DSC 4X (4-blade) and Defender (3-blade) are tied in my book for results. The Defender definitely has a skin break-in period because of the flexing blade and it also has a holding learning curve due to the lightweight handle, shape, stance, etc, so it feels VERY different in your hand vs. a traditional cartridge razor. Currently my "go-to" is the DSC 4X, but I'm assuming that will change as I try out more and more varieties. LOTS more videos are coming!
      Hope that helps a little and obviously opinions will vary based on several factors, but give it a shot and let me know what works best for you. Thanks!

      Hi coyote 5.0! Thank you for commenting - I’m sorry that you had a bad experience with it. People seem to either love it or hate it, nothing in-between. I’m convinced it’s the flexible part of the head and not the actual blades that’s to blame for ripping up skin. Hopefully the rigid DSC ones keeps working for you. Is it better than dollar shave club?

    • @NotAHairModel
      @NotAHairModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alexander! The answer to that question depends on a few variables. It depends on which version of DSC you’re asking about. Up against the more common Dorco versions (2012) I feel it’s better. Up against the Unilever versions (2019) I feel like it’s a tie and comes down to personal preference. Of the two Unilever DSC options I prefer the 4X over the Executive. Also, the Defender takes some getting used to on your skin and has a little learning curve where with DSC you can jump right in. Hope that helps and let me know if you have other questions. Thanks!

    Anybody know if the dull cartridges can be recycled? I want to stay green while still enjoying a smooth shave with my defender?

    Defender used to be great razors. In the last couple years they're junk now. Everything is made cheaper and quality has suffered drastically.

    Who else's breathe hitched everytime he mentioned the customer service? I swear I was feeling so confused for a man who was praising the product so much but every dang time he mentioned that customer service, I swear something was gonna go down hill lol

      Hi Jenni! Sorry I made your breathe hitch and confused you talking about their customer service. I just thought it was important information to include so people would know what kind of a company they would be dealing with if they decided to give it a try. I'll try to do better in the future - promise! :-)

    I thought the defender was absolute garbage.
    It could perhaps work if you shave every day but anything more than a shadow and it clogs worse than any razor I have ever tried. I shave once a week, head and face, because I like the shadow look, I have had the worst luck with Defender, terrible luck with Harry's and Gillete 5 blades but my old dependable Mach3 is still fantastic.
    Got my girlfriend one too and she also hated it.

      Hi Preston! Sorry for the delay in responding. Yeah, the Defender is interesting because people seem to be in two extreme camps - love it or hate it. It does take some getting used to, but I can see why it wouldn't work for your scpecific scenario. I'm glad you gave it a try and now you know, though. Thanks for commenting!

      @@NotAHairModel yea, if you can recommend a better razer than the mach3 I would love to try it.
      Maybe I'm lazier than most but I sometimes let my hair get close to 1/4 long before I try to shave it again. 5 blade razers clog really bad but this defender razer gets clogged and won't release the hair at all, it basically pinches it all down and it's really tough to release. The Mach3 is much better at this.
      It doesn't glide like other razors, so if you are too dry the friction will cause it to bounce and maybe knick yourself.
      Finally their company is pure garbage, they run adds all over Facebook and delete any comments that are even slightly negative or real. I can't support a company that creates an illusion that their products are amazing when really they are just silencing people.
