Super Monkey Ball - Speedrun World Record History and Progression

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Inspired by Summoning Salt and retro, I created this video detailing the speedrun history of Super Monkey Ball for the "Master, Normal" category, from 2011 - when the first Master speedrun to my knowledge was posted - to November 2017, when the current world record was set. I don't doubt there is likely to have been a Master speedrun before 2011, however myself and others conducted thorough research and found no evidence. The video is very thorough, and covers all the new strategies and major improvements which have been made over the years. Hope you enjoy.
𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
09:06 - Here I stated Narcissa achieved her 18:10 personal best "later that year", - meaning later in 2012 - however her 18:10 was achieved in March 2013.
19:42 - Here I said the time over warp glitch used for "Any%" categories works on NTSC and PAL versions of Super Monkey Ball 1, 2 and Deluxe, however the glitch is not known to be present in Super Monkey Ball 2 PAL.
24:01 - I said the current record is still standing "over two years later", however it has only been just over one year since the record was set.

In this video I mention Claris and Narcissa Wright, who both went by different usernames since their Super Monkey Ball speedruns discussed. I chose to refer to them both by their current names, as I believe this to be the most respectful toward them.
Despite this, some clips and screenshots included in the video still reference their former names or show them prior to their transitions. I decided to leave these as they were, as everything included was taken from public websites that appeared as they do in the video at the time of creation. - เกม

UPDATE: Massive congrats to callumbal for achieving a 15:01 AND 14:56!!! Insane run! Were there any new strats between those two late runs and the 15:08? Or was it perfect execution?
A fair few new strats. I'm gonna make a video covering the new records soon but am busy at the minute moving into University.
Wish more people in this genre did side-by-side comparisons. It really helps visualize the improvements

Brilliant video about one of my favorite games ever. I've personally only made it to Master twice, so the idea of doing it hundreds of times to get better times is mind-boggling. This is certainly one of the most legendary speedruns of all time for being so difficult just to complete, let alone quickly. You certainly captured the history of the game very well, and if you ever make another video I look forward to it.
The continuous darts reference was hilarious but also well done. Great job, I really enjoyed it!

"pause frames" = pause buffering.
old school vs new school, they're both correct, but the latter, "pause buffering," is newer. also just a factor of different communities around the world saying different things. they mean the same thing. now that the disparate communities are coming together more, "pause buffering" is the more common term.

Really good vid, i've seen some of your older stuff and its really coming along only thing I would say is audabily its a little empty. Summoning Salt is an obvious example but using music as filler, and as tension is really effective. The use in the intro was really nice just more instances will help. also look up noise cancellation it'll get rid of the mic hiss you have
Thanks a bunch! I actually have a fella now who produces music specifically for my videos, which is a lot easier than having to spend hours searching for something I like and is royalty free. As for the mic hiss, I never really noticed anything myself, but I suppose there's no harm running a noise removal filter in Audacity before exporting.

I really enjoyed this video about a game I had never heard of before! I think you did a great job with the timelines, with the clips you chose of game play, and taking the viewer through the story. I kept watching :) Thank you especially for referring to some runners current names. I thought that was very respectful.
The only thing i have to add is that I would really appreciate an introduction to the game itself (I feel this would broaden the appeal of your video too) and explanations of the tricks or shortcuts involved. I gather that they are names of some very hard tricks, but I would have welcomed a bit of context about them. If Summoning Salt gives us a PHD in Mariokart checkpoints, maybe you could please give us a Masters in Monkeyball physics? :)
