  • "Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
    In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
    'Glory to God in the highest,
    And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.'
    When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, 'Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.' So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them."

    Just got my second Shaman today (05/04/2023). Unlike my first one, this one came perfectly centered, had no blade movement and was drop shut out of the box. Loving it. 😊

    I gotta admit Rob, I like your longer reviews better. I almost feel like there was more you wanted to say about this knife. I know folks complained about the 20 minute reviews, but I enjoy them.

      What would you want them to improve? 154cm is a very decent steel and the gator grip wouldn't work too good with a pocket clip.

      Mt. Baldwin . I agree completely. The Gerber gator is a fine piece of cutlery! The ONLY thing and I do mean only thing I would change would be to add textured g10 handles

    This knife has replaced the pm2 in my pocket more often than naught. I thought the pm2 would be my everyday carry... but the rusty stop pin after 3 months of use has my second guessing.

    Thanks Rob. I very nearly fell in love - but your 3 hits were turn offs for me. I trust your judgement. I'm a righty which means that constant niggle on closing would irritate me. On a completely different subject - last year I found a Real Steel H5 Gerfalcon in Sandvik 14C28N . What an amazing knife for the price! Would love to see you do a review sometime. Look forward to more "From the Sharpening Bench" videos - and if you want to go back to the longer format I'm cool with that. Have a great 2018 :)

    I hope they do test out different handle materials to go with the eventual sprint runs.
    Does spyderco ever redesign the handle on CQI updates of models? That large cutout for the compression lock has kept me from buying it so far.

    Mine was delivered two weeks ago (United Kingdom) and I love it. Out of the box it was a little stiff but a really small backward turn of the pivot screw sorted it straight away. I added a small amount of light oil and opened/closed it repeatedly for about ten minutes resulting in completely smooth action. No blade play either up/down or side to side and now a 'free-dropper' too. So delighted am I with this purchase, I've given my PM2 to my son. Recommended 100%.......Merry Christmas Rob..:)

    @refinededge399 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it's kind of a forgotten model but I think the Bradley 1 fills a similar role at a similar price. I know you have experience with both, which would get your money?

  • @Damen0530
    @Damen0530 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It doesn't fill any roll that my Manix 2 or PM2 couldn't handle. He stated that the Shaman has the small piece on the compression lock that interferes when closing, back spacer is unusual, and not ambi friendly. Also I was on the fence for some time, those reasons just helped my decision.

    • @pedroordepo9860
      @pedroordepo9860 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damen0530 I rather have a nub smacking my finger from time-to-time... Knowing that it is there to prevent my finger from slipping off, which it does a fantastic job at. Also, I know a few people are annoyed with the "unflushed" back spacer. Honestly this knife feels just as good if not better than the pm2. The curved g10 is seductive and firm to the touch, the Knife God took 4 to 5 years creating this knife. To me the slight unflushness is to give you some traction at the end of the handle. But to each their own, I love this knife and call it the big papa of my pm2, manix 2.

    Apostle P.... The Shaman or a Manix 2 with G10 and similar steel?

    • @TheApostleP
      @TheApostleP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Warmachine_13 Now that’s a really good comparison. It’s the Shaman for me. Both a little bulky, but the Shaman gives you a little more strength for the bulk. Also, I prefer the compression lock to the ball bearing lock as a user interface, even as a lefty.

    I think ALL knives can remind you of another knife in some respect..unless you get into the crazy art world or tactical stuff..form follows function..I have the CF version of the Shaman, and I think it’s just beautiful, and a S90V blade to boot...it’s the only Shaman I need or want..

    Love Spyderco Knives but IMO the compression lock is a fail. Would love to see this in a frame lock

  • @ThomasConnolly
    @ThomasConnolly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I also really hate the three large holes drilled in the handle scales around both sides of the pivot for the pocket clip. Through these holes you can literally see the phosphor bronze washers underneath!!! These three holes will make it much easier for lots of extra pocket lint, dust/dirt to work it's way into the pivot and onto those washers. Besides all of that, the three pocket clip holes around the pivot on both sides make the knife look ugly in my opinion!!!

    • @New2Kendo
      @New2Kendo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Connolly the holes are nessesary for tip up right and left hand, there are openings all over knives for stuff to creep in

    • @ThomasConnolly
      @ThomasConnolly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know that, it just seems to me that those three hole pattern for the pocket clip are drilled a little bit larger on the Shaman than what you seen normally on most Spyderco knives. I mean you can literally see the phosphor bronze washers underneath, which is something that you don't normally see in other Spyderco knives. The Shaman in my opinion lacks attention to detail, Spyderco really should have done more nitpicking of the Shaman prototype to make sure tolerances were better. Like what Rob(Apostle P) said/showed about the tip of the finger choil hitting your fingers while trying to close the compression, which caused the blade to not easily/fully go into the handle. Also that backspacer is unacceptable, it's was obviously poorly finished after being machined. Explain to me how nobody at Spyderco in the design and prototype stages noticed the compression lock issue, when it took Rob(apostle P) 5 seconds to discover/notice it?

      You judge a knife just based on its looks? This is how the knife world ends up with non-functional designs.

    • @Damen0530
      @Damen0530 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who says its based on looks?...the compression lock causes an unusual finger placement issue that has been well documented, the back spacer looks out of spec to me, and the lack of ambidextrous opening is what swayed me away from the design. Looks have nothing to do with it.....

    • @TorlingJarl

    • @pedroordepo9860
      @pedroordepo9860 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kurt grates This knife is literally the pm2 and manix put together. It's supposed to be a bigger native 5 with a compression lock. But the bladeshape reminds me of the manix 2, while it still maintains a awesome finger choil (seen in both models), and the ergos / lightness make me think of my pm2. This thing disappears in your pocket and it is as thick as my cudeman mt5 fixed blade. Simple, but badass. I will say however, the finish is a finger print magnet and dlc version is probably way to go.

  • @ThomasConnolly
    @ThomasConnolly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Spyderco Shaman - Great concept, but poor execution!!! I'm not a fan of the Shaman at all. If I want a more robust/heavy duty pocket knife, I'm going pick in my opinion the larger Benchmade 808 Loco or even the slightly smaller Benchmade 818 Mini Loco.

  • @thierrybernot9369
    @thierrybernot9369 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not very impressed. Design reminds me my old (and first) benchmade. Same shape (a little longer), same S30V, and a liner lock.
    Nothing new under the sun.
