I am the owner of a 2006 Cadillac XLR Base. I have seen over 20 of your videos and your work on the C6 is top notch. I WANT A UNIT FOR MY XLR!!! It totally changes the interior from being dated. I am usually a person that likes everything stock, but your unit is total GAME CHANGER!!! I currently have a USA Spec BT45-VETTE interface that makes the stock unit bluetooth@ and phone ready. I am very excited about the finished product and I will spread the word around the XLR community. Keep up the good work!
Damian, you're doing incredible work here. I can't tell you if this will be financially fruitful for you or not. But I do believe if you build it, they will come. I can help you promote this once complete. I have a pretty good reach in the Cadillac community. Keep going.
There’s a XLR show in Michigan every year that’ll be a great way to display and promote your work. I live in Illinois, and I would definitely buy one. I’ve been paying attention to your videos and I like what you’re doing, and it would put the final touch on my XLR V.
This is actually pretty cool! New XLR owner here. One thing that would be great to make are reproduction XLR tail lights! They cost so much used so a lot of us are willing to pay good money for a brand new aftermarket set if it existed!
Just reading the comments on this video makes me skeptical that you could get 400 sold. I dont know if you could drop the unit number in half with a 3D printed part or not, but perhaps that could be a better option than a true injection mold operation. There are great paint options that could match the interior colors (assuming its just a handful) and not have to do too much for colored products. I dont know if you have hit your C6 target number, but that may be the best indicator of sales potential with somewhat complimentary democraphics.
Count me in. I’ll take one, wait, do you have a ballpark price? If so, all of us that want one could put a deposit down ad a pre-order. Hopefully I don’t get any hate for this, but I’m almost done LS swapping mine and would like to have this for my first adventure in this car. Keep it up Sir. Don’t scratch headlights off your list. Most of us need one.
@@ericperry72Well, I’m in about 12K including engine and some upgrades and we’re half way to getting done. I bought an LSA harness from BP Automotive and had to re-pin some wires in order to keep the original fuse box. It’s a headache and it takes a lot of patience. Also have to re-program the ecu. Oh, and you have to run an E67 ECU. So 2007-2009 XLR’s already have it. Everyone else needs to get an E67 in order to have most of your functions in the car to work. Some XLR’s that have swapped have really just put everything out of a Vette in order to make it work. Not my style.
I'm a Corvette fan all of my life. I'm on my 2nd Corvette (1976/2003) and have owned my XLR for 5 years because of of its Corvette lineage. I have one of the 101 2004 Neiman Marcus Editions. I think they are a lot of fun to own due to the rare nature of the car, having only made 15,000 in a 6 year span. Obviously these have depreciated over the years to where most are hovering in the 15-30K range if they're in good shape. You found a couple of examples that are not in that good of shape but you've seen where the price point is. The people buying the cars now are not the same demographic as when they were new. Originality is another concern when it comes to value and changing to an updated infotainment center is a major issue to some. Myself, if it looks sharp and functions without failures, then it would be worth consideration depending on the price point of the unit and how easily it can be installed. Spending 10% or more of the cars value on this may be more than most would be comfortable investing into their car. Overall, I think you did an amazing job of developing this prototype. I am not a fan of the "buttons" on the side of the bezel. If they are not functional, then lose them and make it a polished surface like the rest of the appointments in the car. If you do go into production, make sure there is a wood grain bezel as an option to match the rest of the wood grain that I have on my car.
Appreciate the comments. I do hear the relative % of cars value to mod statement occasionally. In the automotive aftermarket, this has never held true, as a metric. Value of the vehicle vs value of the mod...if this were true the automotive aftermarket wouldnt be a small fraction of what it is. People routinely spend 6 figures to restore a car that is worth very little and only worth a fraction when complete. A 15k dollar corvette commonly will see 15k-25k in mods, across the community. These cars are hobbies not investments, which I think some genres believe they own. The buttons are functional, which is why they are there. Theyre not functional in the prototype. I think the mass public has a very high disconnect between cost of niche parts, molds, development costs vs potential sales volumes and how to be profitable.
I am definitely interested. I would preorder one if I could. One thing I know people in the Cadillac XLR community are looking for is headlights and taillights, but seriously, I hope this radio you're making comes to production.

I would like to, no wait, I demand to be the first in Canada to get one of these for my XLR. Problem with the original tech in the car is that it's 20 year old tech! While new isn't always better, to me this definitely is. The old tech can't be updated via USB in a simple process and good luck getting CDs or map updates! As an XLR owner...I'd love to have one of these. I know getting 400 units out is going to be tough, but once the word spreads, this could be a great endeavor. Curious to what kind of price you're setting on one.
Hello Greg here. I have a 06 XLR. Iv had it for some time now. First I am interested in you system. Vary interested. I am pretty familiar with the XLR in and out and have a few saved parts here and there I think a few head units and climit control boxes I guess is what they are called. Any good lock smith can cut you a key they just need the vin. Don't have to have a chip or anything the fob does all that ( as I'm sure you knew) vary cool how you got into the car without the key good job. Now as for the no sound...... Man I can't tell you how many times I just lost sound for day weeks or months on end because I think the car radio or amp goes into theft mode or something. Next thing you know you get in and bam you have sound.... One key .... Thing is when the sound goes the backup proximity sensor beep does too ( no beep ). I don't know how helpful that is but they are connected some how. Like I said I know a lot about this car and love this car. I am in Pennsylvania but willing to help if I can. Good luck like the old Wayne's world movie if you book them they will come.... If you make it they will buy it
Interesting details. I'm currently on my second amplifier and have no sound either. When I bought the car it didn't have sound and I replaced the amplifier and got it back. Wasn't aware of this feature or lack thereof, but curious about how I can repair it without buying another amplifier?
Of course I encourage anybody to keep the original equipment in the event they’re going to sell their car. They need to put it back, but they can give the new buyer if they choose to sell it the option of returning it to its original or keep it the new council people love options.
Looks great, do you know what type of price range you would sell them at? Also, can you make the plastic that goes around the headlights, my light works, but it cracked in pieces, so I had to buy another one and it has scratches on it. I have a 2006, my 3rd one.

I like it and would love it but haven’t got an xlr yet… but I also feel the demographic is older and cheap and would more than likely not want to spend they money for it I hope I’m wrong.
Two concepts...a) trim down to addable canbus software that can work with the factory radio or aftermarket head unit with downloadable 3d print file similar to the copilot comma system. b) go top of the line and offer the full unit with new and improved headlights and taillights!!! Surely working directly with engineers they can design lights to offset the overall cost but add value to the purchase. Currently you could expect to pay 2-5k for a entire set of lights, maybe more. Whereas a typical set would be 1,000-1,500? Cause whether anyone wants to admit it or not, I spend 1500 upgrading the radio and someone rear ends me and I lose everything because I have a busted taillight?😢 No sure thing about these cars except individuality, and you can bet that sooner or later it's going to cost. I laugh at the price of a hemi cuda at collector auctions knowing that one day the XLR will be a living unicorn in comparison! Nonetheless I admire and appreciate your contribution to the community and dedication to your craft🙏💪💯
@@KnightDriveTV so we've went back and forth a couple times bout Hummers. Mine will be done with the motor build Monday. So I've got the H2 SUV and the sut, if I had your skills, and knowledge, which I assure you I do not, I would make a anti-slam device for the doors or just a much more durable door panel all together. If that is your first hummer, I can tell you this. Every passenger will unknowingly slam the doors and it destroys the panels. It is without a doubt their weakest link. And on top of that your passengers get offended when you say please shut the door gently. I'm preordering four from you right now.
