I love that neither of them even considered trying to break that deadlock with anything tricky either. They both 100% bought in on that plan and never looked back.
Here’s your regular reminder that class 1-B is not normally the “lesser” class. 5:08 Deku remembers what a lot of people don’t. Shiozaki (vine girl) and others placed higher than class 1-A members in the entrance exam, specifically 4th out 36 passing students. If the classes were separated by skill and not randomly, she would be in class 1-A
In the one-shot pilot chapter for this series, Midoriya was an adult who worked for a company that made hero support items. Despite how frail and sickly he was, he longed to be a hero himself; and secretly used the support items he created to moonlight as one, eventually gaining the acknowledgement of the hero he looked up to. And fun fact: Snipe was also in that chapter, and kept his appearance in the main series.
Apparently, Ibara (Vine Girl) was originally going to be a member of Class 1-A, but the mangaka didn't wanna have to draw her hair so much, so he moved her to 1-B.
Kenny preemptively going "aahhhh" before the ed played got me cause I remember watching this arc for the first time and being on the edge of my seat so much that I would also scream "AAHHHHH" along with the song
I don't know who i feel bad for most: the audience who had to watch Mei's advertising for 10 mins instead of a glorious battle or Iida being duped into it?
The biggest thing for me about Uraraka VS Bakugo as a bad matchup for her is his air mobility. Her quirk's primary feature is changing the ground based movement that most people rely on. Bakugo already doesn't rely on that. He has a high speed aerial maneuvering capability before she even touches him. Making most opponents float will send them out of the arena in short order for a win. Making Bakugo float does basically nothing. He hard counters her primary path to victory before the match even starts.
21:50 Imagine seeing a maltipoo run into battle with a rabid pitbull. Also, a correction about Uraraka's quirk. She just removes the effect of gravity from objects. She can do nothing to maneuver once she touches herself. If she removes her gravity against Bakugou she'll get blown out of the ring the second he explodes anywhere near her.
Something I just noticed on this watch through was that while everyone else was basically saying how much Uraraka was going to get slaughtered by Bakugou...he was taking it seriously. He didn't laugh it off or get lazy, he went and prepared for the fight like he would any other fight. I really like that little detail. Neither one of them belittled or backed down.
The reason Class 1-A describe Bakugo and Ururaka's fight as "disturbing" is: At this point they just know Bakugo has NO chill and is violent. While Ururaka is sweet, almost to the point of naïve. However, it's also the first real time one of my favorite lines starts getting shown: "There's 2 people in Class 1-A. They're not leaders, or very popular, and must of the time they seem like polar opposites. However, before I knew it, their passion had spread to the rest of the class....... I'm not worried Joke, in fact I can't wait to see what they can do. Even if they're not physically with the others, their presence raises the standards of the rest."
They don't hate each other, if you mean Kirashima (Hardening Quirk) and Tetsutetsu (Metal Quirk). They just get annoyed at being compared to each other all the time. They actually get along really well.
It's interesting seeing Montana predict the idea of Uraraka using Bakugo's temper to make him loose, cause as someone who's seen significantly more of this show and has had a lot of time to think back on these earlier moments, a consistent detail about Bakugo's characterization is that, yes he's temperamental, but he's NEVER stupid (at least in terms of direct combat; there's debates to be made about his intelligence regarding long-term strategy and team work when his temper flares, such as how him pursuing Midoriya in their day-2 training ultimately resulted in him and Iida loosing). Goading his temper may get him more riled up, but I don't see a version of events where any amount of anger makes him self sabotage a one on one fight.
you guys are awesome together i do gatta say.... im mad jealous of how perfect you two are for eachother oh yeah and great reaction, can't wait for the next few episodes :)
Alright so we basically have every single battle that is on the 1st bracket round with no story relevance. No fan favorites getting some boost we didn’t know about, no avatar state revelations, just a logical set of events that occur round to round. With Deku just muttering his way through as he analyzes it all. I relate. So I’m just going to do the same because I’m basically an adult Deku. Shiozaki vs Kaminari: Yup, we got Pokémon rules here. Yes it’s true electricity is a fundamental weakness of the human body, but climbing plants like vines are in general pretty good insulators, plus Kaminari can’t move with his quirk, so she can LITERALLY beat him with her eyes closed if she turns around before he unleashes. Plus Kaminari is already not the brightest bulb in the box going against the number 2 strongest class B member. (Side note: Monoma is so obnoxious even MINETA visibly dislikes the guy. Bravo to their class rep for just dragging him away for being a needless jerk and not just a jerk in battle.) Deku analyzing is the embodiment of these comments. And I am WELL aware many people have the same face Bakugo does. Iida vs Hatsume: Ok I just have to point out Midnight saying “I’ll allow it” absolutely has me on the floor from the tone change EVERY time. But hey, we have…what I can only describe as what would happen if Billy Mays was ever in a tournament battle. (Rest in peace) They even throw in a “Wait, there’s more!” from literally ALL informercials. Hatsume’s quirk is likely how she makes all her gadgets. She can see things super far away up close, so I get the hunch it can work on really small objects up close like a built in microscope. Quirks tend to work both ways or in various conditions that have the same baseline. Also that gadget that keeps Iida from falling over AND keeping him in the ring looks like it HURTS. To be snapped upright like that has to be so sudden that thing could cause whiplash…y’know. If Iida wasn’t a speedster with reflexes and physical form to match. Which I would NOT blame him if he just sat on the floor waiting for her to get through her 10 minute schpeel and WATCH DUMBFOUNDED after she walks out. Only so many gadgets you can carry to a match and carry to the rounds I suppose. Aoyama vs Mina: Let’s see, a guy who could not telegraph his attacks any more if he honestly tried to…who wears armor for a costume now lacking said armor…and actual NEED for support gear for his unstable quirk…against someone who can run circles around him using her quirk like roller skates. Aoyama is one of the bottom tier people in Class A AND B. And Mina just puts him out like Glass Joe from Punch Out. (If you’ve ever played the game, there are times you feel sorry for just wailing on the guy with a 1-99 record continuously.) I am curious about the audience being in proximity to the lasers. He does get some DISTANCE out of that thing. Tokoyami vs Momo: So one thing I like to point out about Momo is she has unlimited versatility so long as she has the molecular knowledge to back it up. And she’s the intelligence recommendation for Class A. But there’s some SERIOUS limitations that hold her back. While her powers work identically to alchemists from FMA, to implement that sort of versatility in combat is EXTREMELY hard to do AND she can’t spread to existing material which is what REALLY makes the FMA characters so broken. And even though she CAN match the firepower of the big Class A and B powerhouses, her options get limited fast…because THEIR power is so large, getting information on real life fire power matches is impossible BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT LIKELY MARKS IT AS CLASSIFIED. Plus she doesn’t know Tokoyami’s light weakness, and he used her Calvary battle strategy against her by using her own shield to pack more force into knocking her out of bounds. Sadly the more you think about this match, Momo was at a BIG disadvantage simply because she can’t plan on the spot despite being the smartest person in BOTH classes. Tetsu vs Kirishima: Ok, Present Mic is ABSOLUTELY mocking their similarities on purpose because he realizes it ticks them off. (Likely didn’t take him long to figure it out.) Even their match pictures are in the same pose. And now they just clobber each other for an unknown amount of time. We don’t know who landed more hits, who has more stamina, or just who is the overall better tank here. All we know is their armor is made out of different material. But because they use their quirks for the same purpose, it’s just a flat out slugfest. In this situation there’s literally no reason why one should win over the other ESPECIALLY if we don’t watch the whole thing in full, so instead of picking Kirishima who we are more familiar with now, they just throw us a draw. An arm wrestling match would ACTUALLY be a proper test for their elemental armor which is superior to the other given the circumstances. Uraraka is prepping for her battle with Bakugo. 2 main student characters. So we know this one is going to be a LOT more complicated. (And boy is THAT the understatement. Next episode is a DOOZY to analyze and one of my favorites to do so.) Deku and Bakugo are on opposite sides of the bracket which does NOT narratively bode well for her. But when you look at the bracket and who would stand a chance, the only person of EVERYONE on her side of the bracket is Bakugo. If she went against ANYONE else, she would win in one or two moves. She’s faster than most, and those faster all need to get close to fight and she is pretty much IMMUNE to brawlers. She is more skilled than Mina, and Dark Shadow is more or less a brawler to her AND it is attached to Tokoyami. She is going into her hardest match IMMEDIATELY. The ONLY people that can hard counter her are Iida, Todoroki, and Deku of those that remain, the 3 most likely people to appear in the finals on their side of the bracket. So her being runner up is VERY likely because Bakugo isn’t a HARD counter, just a counter. (He has long range and flight, but as we’ve seen, it’s just not as sustainable as his close range.) She turns down Deku’s help, but I wish she said I’m sorry, but we aren’t teammates anymore in this tournament. Not that she felt silly for wanting to be teammates at all. (But Uraraka’s emotional knowledge is a bit less than Deku’s. Which puts the gap between a HSP and an Empath.) Next episode, I think I’m going to say is my favorite match of the tournament.
The biggest issue for Momo is that the rules were biased against her from the start, since she wasn’t allowed to create anything ahead of time like she could have in an actual fight. And of course, this match made her look useless to all the heroes scouting for fresh talent even though she’s one of the biggest powerhouses in the setting….
@@bkjeong4302while she couldn’t prepare her creations to bring on the field, she had several matches she sat through where she didn’t at least think about which creations to use in advance. Which I guess IS important to establish what kind of intelligence she does and doesn’t have. Plus she gets the added benefit of being a recommendations student which gives her the auto recognition. The conditions are not in her favor true, but it’s more than biased rules for good tv.
@@Kaempfdog Do we even know if she thought about what she’d use or not? She easily could have: the issue was that Dark Shadow is a powerhouse and anything she could create very quickly at that point wouldn’t have done much to him, while the more complex items she could have used effectively would have required prep time she was denied. So in the end it did come down to the issue of the match’s rules. I’d argue losing like that after being introduced as a recommendation student would actually make things even worse for her when it comes to recognition, as someone who didn’t deserve the hype. Especially since her family is well-known and very powerful, so it could be assumed she got in on connections. We even see this happen in canon with KAMINARI of all people being seen as far more competent and capable than her (despite losing even more badly), and receiving significantly more offers than her as a result.
@@bkjeong4302 we do know she didn’t put thought into her creations prior to the match. She’s thinking about simple shields and such not with other matches, but ON STAGE as Present Mic introduced them and gave his countdown. Then she was interrupted mid-thought after all she put together was her defense. She didn’t prep herself. Which she does from here on out to show her growth. It’s the baseline for her development down the line. That being said, I did miss she got less internship requests than Kaminari and yes her recommendations title would work against her due to this situation. But based on the equipment she would need to match the class powerhouses, her quirk limitations are still present. What would she have made that she knew would work on Dark Shadow and Tokoyami when she doesn’t know his is light based yet? It’s like Iida’s recipro. You can guess how he’ll move but with unknown facets, that can REALLY cost you. Once she knows, she’s a counter. But the point is she doesn’t know in this circumstance.
@@Kaempfdog The issue is that she never gets to actually grow into her potential in canon, in large part because nobody is willing to give her the chance to get better since any potential mentors outside of UA (save Majestic but…you know…) never realized her worth. And given the advanced technology in BnHA, and the fact she can replicate it with her quirk, there really isn’t a reason to assume she couldn’t keep up with the class powerhouses via technology-because such technology DOES ACTUALLY EXIST IN THE SETTING. In fact, based on certain canon tech shown in the manga (post-Season 6), only Izuku and maybe Shoto are really at her level when it comes to potential power. And she NEVER gets to actually take full advantage of that and live up to her potential that had been shown when she was first introduced. And again: exactly what could she have created instead that would have both worked offensively and been something she’d have enough time to create? Keep in mind that as you pointed out she didn’t know about Dark Shadow being weak to light. The entire point is that her defeat here-which had massive negative consequences for not just her self-esteem but potentially her entire future career-was more a result of the Festival being unable to prove fair opportunities for everyone to showcase their skills than with Momo being “too stupid” to have a plan ahead, because even if she did plan ahead she would have been denied the opportunity to put any feasible plan against Dark Shadow into place due to the “no prep time” rule.
Momo is the smartest student in class 1-A, but at this point, she has self confidence issues. Dark Shadow had exactly the right strategy: keep hitting her so she doesn't have time to use that big brain of hers. Here's the thing about sweet girls. Peel away enough layers of sweetness and you find a ferocious being made of pure will. Underestimate Ochako at your own peril.
It’s so odd listening to Monoma rant on and on about the “better class 1A” when they’re basically the same skill level, just two different classes. Why hasn’t anyone told that boy yet?? He’s gonna give himself an aneurysm from yelling all the time😭
Ochako VS Bakugo... That's one great battle. I mean, the result is pretty obvious, even to those who haven't watched the episode. After all, for Ochako to defeat him she would need touch him (as her Quirk is touch based) and for that she would need to approach him, which is extremely hard having in consideration his Explosion quirk. But I just love the way Ochako used her Quirk to try to get the best on him.
I really wanted a rematch at some point but she hasn't received anywhere near enough buffs to be on Bakugo's level that's probably why her storyline focused more on Toga
That battle with Hatsume and Iida was so funny. I have thought her quirk could work well for rescuing in hiking locations or wide areas like oceans or snowfields, but she wants to go into support. She loves innovation. The next battle with Bakugou vs Uraraka is going to be so good. While you should not underestimate Uraraka you also should not think that Bakugou should on easy on her. Whenever I see this competition when I see a man vs a woman and they let the woman a head start "cuz she's a woman" always bothered me. Bakugou and that face he made that the start of his battle. lol. Remember Bakugou claims he's always calm and rational. Boy sure is stubborn. l love that boy.
I like Yaoyorozu but realistically, her quirk is by far the one weakest and with the biggest amount of weaknesses: She pretty much has wearing clothes as a weakness, it requires very quick reaction time (that she has proven to not have) in a world where the villains attack without warning and where half of the time you wouldn't know at first glance the quirk of the opponent, you can't really save multiple people at once with it, it depends on high IQ to memorize a ridiculous amount of very specific info, she needs to be skilled enough to even use the object and thus she can fail and it requires her be close enough to the target to attack effectively. And smaller objects like knives and guns are pretty much nothing against opponents literally able to move as fast as a bullet, that are as resistant as any hard metal, that have instant activation long range attacks that don't require to be close to attack or that directly are able to mess with the mind or senses of the user. And her shields barely do anything against people with super strength, that shoot beams of energy or that can literally terraform the battlefield. I really like her as a character but she's pretty much a quirkless girl using objects to fight against literal super humans.
2:38 he didn't need the reminder lol, just says "i gotta release all my electricity here, huh" 6:39 did she mention--nvm😊 (HATSUME MEI, HATSUME MEI, HATSUME MEI--) 10:29 lol EN Iida cries but he's in the bg yelling I HATE YOUU 14:42 idk if it's bc of the voice delivery or smth else but i thought M might mention how uncomfortanle/worried she seemed beforehand Like even on first announcement 15:17 not quite my turn but 15:27 i keep wondering why the pause was so long 16:16 heh not maybe but Yes Also now noticing Ocha 16:35 WOOO 19:06 hehe "that didnt hurt" "That didnt hurt either!" Mha wanted to break the anime stereotypes, but after this arc, they realized that breaking stereotypes is hard, and nowhere is that more evident than with Uraraka.
@@valentinkambushev4968 I think they weren't sure where to go with her. She had many arcs that were started and never finished which is why it feels off. I still love her though
Haven't caught up to the manga but her storyline with Toga better be really good later because she clearly isn't going to be getting any power ups/buffs to be anywhere near bakugo's level this is the closest she will ever get to winning which sucks because this arc put the idea in my head that she would eventually be capable of being as strong as other students like bakugo and todoroki, she is definitely just a support based hero now
@@pieck5460 I mean, she was going to be a resque hero from the start, we know that ever since the USJ and it never changed. I never expected her to be a heavy-hitter and that's also what I like about her. She's strong but it's not over the top.

@@Kaempfdog
Do we even know if she thought about what she’d use or not?
@@Kaempfdog
The issue is that she never gets to actually grow into her potential in canon, in large part because nobody is willing to give her the chance to get better since any potential mentors outside of UA (save Majestic but…you know…) never realized her worth.
Ibara is basically the anti minata she is pure while he is perverted and they both have hair quirks
No, no. He's got a point.
They would make a good combo in a fight if he just needs to stick his quirk onto the end of her vines 😮
@@pieck5460 yeah it would be so cool bur I doubt they would work well together
oooh boy , next episode and the ones after that are generally just a non-stop hype train !
I'm all caught up on the anime now and i gotta say we need more Mei Hatsume
Is it just me or does Mei Hatsume feel like a abstract sister of Hatsune Miku?
@@bongocat737 ...elaborate
Tbh i dont know… they just are like “popular sister and crazy sister”
It’s so odd listening to Monoma rant on and on about the “better class 1A” when they’re basically the same skill level, just two different classes. Why hasn’t anyone told that boy yet?? He’s gonna give himself an aneurysm from yelling all the time😭
Bakugou, my beloved...
Hope they enjoyed it because it's all downhill from there (for Ochako's character, I mean.)
@@valentinkambushev4968 Don't say that. She does evolve as a character.
I really wanted a rematch at some point but she hasn't received anywhere near enough buffs to be on Bakugo's level that's probably why her storyline focused more on Toga
She's still a goated character. Way better than momo. I just wished they did a better job with jiro
Damn bakugo peaked in middleschool? That’s rough.
I personally love Yuga Aoyama
So looking forward to the next episode, Uraraka vs Bakugo is one of my favourite episodes in the series.
Hatsume is literally the best and I won't hear any arguments to the contrary.
Cannot wait for the upcoming string of absolute bangers
I love mei.. soo much...
That's what happens when your quirk is not made for your body
I like Yaoyorozu but realistically, her quirk is by far the one weakest and with the biggest amount of weaknesses:
She pretty much has wearing clothes as a weakness, it requires very quick reaction time (that she has proven to not have) in a world where the villains attack without warning and where half of the time you wouldn't know at first glance the quirk of the opponent, you can't really save multiple people at once with it, it depends on high IQ to memorize a ridiculous amount of very specific info, she needs to be skilled enough to even use the object and thus she can fail and it requires her be close enough to the target to attack effectively.

Oh
Well youve seen anyway
28:16 maybe, but still able to think rationally
Hatsume best female character, change my mind
I love Uraraka so much in these episodes but i really don't like how her character goes later 😭
Mha wanted to break the anime stereotypes, but after this arc, they realized that breaking stereotypes is hard, and nowhere is that more evident than with Uraraka.
I've only watched till S3 so idk either. Bakugo is my fav
I dont care im just going to say Kirishima ❤ omg i want a boyfriend like him im literally in love with him❤
