Thank you so much for this very useful information! We are visiting Scotland from North Carolina in the United States and would like to daytrip from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Your video was so helpful in my planning.
Thanks for watching mate - very much appreciated. You are welcome, I'm pleased it assisted you and hope you had a nice trip to the UK.
I have travelled on this train many times and would agree about the seats! But overall, Scotrail provide a great service, in my opinion😊
Hi Sheila, thanks for watching - agreed, overall it is a good service.
I was on a 385 this last thursday going from glasgow to haymarket. They are nippy trains
Yesterday I was on the Peterborough to Edinburgh train, and we ended up in first class, as the train was Heaving, due to Late& Delays. The staff there were Fantastic! Apart from the Conductor who asked us all to move! ( But we didn’t!) we got treated to extra Drinks, and Snacks all the way! Also While at Glasgow, waiting for the Fort William Train , The platform number never came up at all on the Boards! But we got to Fort William, and the Journey from Glasgow was Fabulous! And smooth. Here for the week now. Thanks for your videos. Xx
Hi Julie, thanks for watching - appreciated. Good to hear you enjoyed your trip and it's nice naive to get a few treats..
Thank you for this excellent video. I really like the Class 385s, and agree with all that you say.I have travelled several times between Waverley and Queen St, always 1st Class because the seating and spaciousness is so much better. The journey time should be accelerated, for the so called express services shouldn’t need to call at Linlithgow or Croy. Each time I have used the service, admittedly off-peak, no-one boarded or alighted at either of those stations !
Thanks for watching - very much appreciated
Good video mate. For an extra couple of quid well worth the upgrade i think..
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. Completely agree, just for some peace and quiet.
I miss the old class 170s that used to operate this route before the class 385s came in. The lighting was more ambient, the seats were comfier and they even had catering on board. Not something you’d expect from a commuter train. Catering was removed at the start of the pandemic. I understand the changing times though, diesel trains are gradually going and new electrics coming in
They didn't have catering on board at all, they had a trolley that served first class first, offering a drink and biscuit then went to standard
@@Pmcknockiter81 sorry I should’ve been more specific. I did mean a snack and drinks trolley on board. Still I was always surprised a train journey of 50 minutes would’ve had a food trolley on board
@@Pmcknockiter81 "First class first"
Only partially true as first class on a 170 is on both ends
@@Danse_Macabre_125 personally I don’t think it’s worth it having first class on a commuter train especially as a lot of commuter trains have a first class area where all they do is take standard class seat and put a piece of cloth of the head rest that says first class
@@Pmcknockiter81ummm a drink and biscuit is catering still. Stop being churlish he never said a 4 course silver service restaurant.
I do like the ScotRail Class 385 and the Class 43 HST “Inter7City”. Edinburgh Waverley is such a beautiful station.
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated - Agrreed, the HST is lovely and yes Waverley is also a nice station.
Ahem, Glasgow is Scotland FIRST city, twice the size of Edinburgh!! The trains are very good, though ride can be bumpy, like other Hitachi trains. There used to be catering before Covid on this route, another casualty of nationalisation!
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. That was only based on the fact that Edinburgh is the capital but i suppose it depends on where you're from. The units are good, no issues at all really apart from standard being rammed - shame about the catering aspect though.
Thank god they are nationalised.
Great video
I am about to book a trip for my wife and I, from Glasgow to Edinburgh, then down the ECML on LNER to Newcastle and intend booking first class, so was wondering whether this train had a first class section .. now I know !
In order that we can enjoy half an hour or so at the Waverley first class lounge I was planning on taking the 16:45 train from Glasgow. As you mentioned, do you think this will be full (perhaps even in first class)
Regards from Whitley Bay
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. It all depends but I tend to pick travel outside of rush hour / peak type times. But enjoy your trip and hope all for well.
@@TheGeordieTravels thanks !
Just got back from a day trip to York, also from Newcastle. Went with my granddaughter to visit the National Railway Museum .. only £3 in the recent TPE sale .. A real bargain !!
Those Scot Rail HST's look really overpowered for the 5 carriages. Those two big class 43 locomotives you'd think a driver vehicle trailer at one end would be more efficient fuel wise.
