    I’ve tested the majority of tablets, from iPads to android tablets. Samsung is above and beyond the best in Android. It is not close.

    • @wilnonis
      @wilnonis ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As someone who tried both, do you think samsung tech matches the drawing experience that the Ipad offers? I'm a freelancer and been looking for something more portable. Can't decide between samsung s8 ultra and an ipad pro.

    • @Jimmyfly215
      @Jimmyfly215 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@wilnonis the difference for me is procreate. I use that on my iPad Pro and Samsung just doesn’t have that. There’s great apps for drawing and illustration but nothing comes close to procreate for me. I’d go iPad Pro 12.9

    • @wilnonis
      @wilnonis ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jimmyfly215 that's really impressive. I'm pretty much using clip studio paint exclusively, most likely will stick with that on a tablet too. So that makes me lean towards samsung considering the price. Thanks for the answer, really appreciate it!

    • @pedroantonio5031
      @pedroantonio5031 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I tested both. For me android is way better than iPadOS but when it comes to drawing experience, iPad has no competition, since the apps are the best and imput lag of Apple pencil is zero basically. If you look just for drawing, go with iPad Pro, but if system and other stuff matters, go Samsung.

    • @Jimmyfly215
      @Jimmyfly215 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pedroantonio5031 I can speak as a user for both, iPad has way more apps developed specifically for my use within the ecosystem tied to my iCloud. Samsung develops their own apps, but that’s it. So many apps from the play store are not tablet friendly, they are just blown up phone apps.

    I got the S8 bit over a year ago and wasn't really surprised to see it on the first place. The samsung pen tech is just good and coming from wacoms the pen accuracy and tracking felt very similar, also a bonus, if the spen tip breaks, wacoms pro pen 2 and wacom one pen tips (they use the same tips) work without an issue on the spen which is good as the samsung pen nibs are not available in every country

      You can also use the Staedtler Noris pen as a substitute to the spen as it is super compatible with it. So if you're feeling nostalgia of the art pencils this works well too

  • @franciscodetonne4797
    @franciscodetonne4797 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Why I think Samsung does have the best standalone tablets for artists:
    + All their current S series tablets have Wacom tech in their stylus
    + S6 Lite 2022 is easily the best value for money budget tablet
    + S7 FE may be expensive, but that screen is actually kinda huge for its price tag
    + All their current S series tablets have Wacom tech in their stylus (according to some sources, the Staedtler Noris Digital also has Wacom tech and can be used with Samsung's S tablets and the Wacom One)
    The S9 series has 5 models, and the FE and FE+ will come out soon-ish, if not the same time as the flagship models, according to some leaks.

    In terms of android tablets as an overall creativity device, Samsung really stepped up with the Tab series. I remember their Tab release as early as the Tab 7 and Note 2 (which already used a Wacom digitizer - that's in 2012!). I've used a Note 2, Note 4 and Note 9 as my art device and they've served me well. I just jumped over a Tab S7 recently to get back into my doodling and they are something else. Thanks for this video!

Most tablet reviewers ain't artist, so when it come to drawing, they can only talk about iPad and tons of procreate drawing videos. Honestly for 1 month using the default Samsung stylus is extraordinary. but after I found out that the Wacom stylus could work on the Tab S6 Lite, without thinking I bought the Wacom One stylus. As a result, my fingers are more comfortable, because the Samsung stylus is easier for writing than the Wacom, which is better for drawing 😮

      @@thedarksaucelord1780 600dpi is debatable, if you're drawing pro artwork with many layers and that much dpi then there's gonna be noticeable lag. Even 300dpi may have some slowdown depending on the complexity + canvas size of the art. But if you're planning to do pro-level, studio printing quality work with it then I do recommend looking into other Galaxy Tabs.

    My first Android tablet was the original 2020 version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which was a pre-owned unit from an eBay reseller. That particular unit cost me approximately $200 USD. I’ve owned that tablet from December 2021 to July 2022. After that, I traded it in for the 6GB/128GB Wi-Fi version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which, after the $250 trade-in discount at the time, cost me $349.99 USD plus tax. As of July 2023, I currently have no plans to trade in my Tab S7 FE for a newer model at this time.

    I have both an iPad Pro M1 11” & a regular Samsung Tab S8 11”.
    Over time, I began to appreciate Samsung’s S-Pen more than Apple Pencil
    - better palm rejection
    - better friction(not paperlike, but not slippery either, unlike barescreen iPad)
    - you only need to have S-Pen charged for Bluetooth function. You can still draw & have pressure sensitivity even with no battery
    iPad is still ridiculously more powerful in CPU, but its OS holds it back(& will continue to be held back because Apple doesnt want to lose MacBook sales).

    I have the S8 Ultra and simply love it. I "upgraded" from the S7+, simply for the larger screen. While there might be slightly faster tablets on the market today, unless you are transcoding video or crunching other large datasets the S8 line has more than enough power. It has enough ram that you can have nearly as many layers as you need while drawing. It has a screen that simply is unmatched in the android world (and I'd argue in the entire tablet category). If you need a pen that's as perfect as you can get, the S8 line, and the Galaxy Tab S series as a whole, is unmatched. I used to HATE Samsung, mostly because of their TouchWiz skin. I still dislike Samsung as a company, but have to admit their tablets are the best on the market, especially for artists.

      I've got a P11+ and I don't know if the Pro supports the same pen. Pen support is good. I use the Active Pen 3, but the Precision Pen 2 is also supported, but I have not tried it, since I already had the Active Pen 3. The pen has pressure sensitivity, 4k something levels and tilt support. If the P11 Pro supports a pen with similar specs, it would be a good choice.

    My 256GB/8GB RAM Galaxy Tab S6 with 10.5" Super AMOLED and S-pen was a great buy at $320 as a refurb/new open box a couple of years ago. It's gotten regular OneUI updates and v4.1 1 (Android 12) is a large reason it's still one of my favorite all-time devices. Another is I can color grade my 4K drone video with LumaFusion. Yes, an M1 or M2 iPad would be even faster... But >4X price faster? Doubtful

    I currently have a Doogee T30 Pro. It's great for general browsing and light gaming, if you're into that. But I wouldn't recommend even trying to draw on it. I should be getting a Samsung S9 FE in a few days. I'm looking forward to being able to doodle on it during the day.

    Will you review the new oppo pad 2 or vivo pad 2, they both have pens that claim to be better at least in latency compared to Apple and S pens.
    The tablets are hard to buy since they're "Chinese" "copies" of some already released androids. Cheap but insanely powerful for their price

    Got a Galaxy S8 Ultra at release, sadly enough I don't draw much anymore but the big screen at least makes it possible when I get the urge, and the thing is absolutely fantastic for both drawing and sculpting. The only thing I miss is a Blender alternative for modeling and I could potentially ditch the desktop (well mostly). For the rest its my daily entertainment tablet, movies look great on it and sounds pretty great too.
    I had a 10" something basic Ipad before that, and I couldn't draw on it at all so I sold it.

    I bought the S7+ at the end of the year of the release and has been loving it since. Would I like the S8 Ultra, yes, but I don't draw so much on it but I love to have it when I do travel or when I am away from home. I will still use it for some more years until it breaks for some reason or a new Samsung tablet really have some amazing feature not avaliable on the S7+. But I will stick to Samsung for the foreseeable future.

    Maybe you should check the Lenovo line, I looked into the market for a laptop style tablet and I found that Lenovo released the Lenovo Tab Extreme, another huge 14.5 inch tablet. It's cheaper but doesn´t have Samsung's level of software support. I'm not a creative professional, but I do like Android tablets so I would be nice if you could check those Lenovo tablets out.

    Hi Brad and everyone reading this comment, I HAVE A DILEMMA: so I have a laptop ( windows ) , an iPhone and a Huion Drawing Tablet ( no screen/display ). I usually work on photoshop doing compositions, photo manipulation, retouches, stuff like that. So very little “drawing / ilustrating “. I’m willing to buy a tablet which I intend to use as my screen ( because better colour accuracy and working with the Pen/stylus and possibility to use it as a normal tablet too ). Is it even worth to try this? I know that apps like EasyCanvas, Luna etc. can do this but viewing Brad’s past videos, this method seems a little bit… “ a still unpolished “ workaround.
    My questions are: is it worth it to buy a normal tablet for screen mirroring my laptop? Would be better to buy a display drawing tablet ( if yes any “budget” display tablets around… 550€ recommendations maybe? )? Or just to calm down and keep working with my Huion pen tablet and for colour accuracy to use my iPhone for the final edits since it has high colour accuracy?
    Thanks for any response willing to help me and take this hard migraine off my mind 😂

    Hi Brad I'm looking at the Xiaomi Pad 6 due to the price and features it brings but what iPad would you consider it similar to in terms of pen performance and drawing? I was looking at the iPad 9th Generation as it supports the Apple Pencil 2 for around the same price in the UK.

  • @varickb
    @varickb ปีที่แล้ว

    hey Brad love every new videos you put out and your videos on how to illustrate on tablets helps a lot, however it's been a while you have not done a video on laptops you would recommend for artists
    could there be an update on that?

  • @Tridaak
    @Tridaak ปีที่แล้ว

    The Tab S9 is coming out in August, so just a few months away until this video probably gets outdated. Also seems they might be targeting the artist community with the NotePaper Screen.
    For myself, the best android tablet so far is still the S7 FE, because of it's large size, low price, and great pen support. Sure, the S8 is better... but I don't need all the muscle the S8 flexes, it's a lot for a big price. Also there might be an S8 FE with a wacom digitizer which might make pen support even better.

    If I can't block ads on it, I'm not buying it. That's why I'd only consider Android tablets as opposed to iPads.
    Yes, the M series chips are incredible, but you know what? All the processing power gains I would have had with an iPad is lost every time I have to sit through an ad, or load up a website stuffed to the gills with them. It's just not worth it.

  • @GrantSR
    @GrantSR ปีที่แล้ว

    Now, I want to see a direct comparison between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8+ or 8 Ultra and the Microsoft Surface Pro 9. The price of the highest end 8 Ultra is about the same as that of an entry level Surface Pro 9. So, comparing the 8 Ultra with cheaper Android tablets is almost unfair.
    In said review, I also want to know about more than pen wobble and pressure sensitivity. I want to know if either can sense pen tilt or rotation.

    I have the tab S7 myself, but I have a deep harted of how complicated Clip Studio is and with Medibang also having an annoying menu interface and android drawing apps in general have weird file management things for existing art where they get stored in the app instead of the android file manager so you have to keep exporting to move the files anywhere, I gave up and got the Galaxy Book 360. No matter how good an android tablet can be, I'm staying away from buying one as a drawing device anymore until there's an app on there that I'm comfortable drawing with. Currently, I'm using my Galaxy Tab 7 to watch your youtube video about Andriod Tablets.
    My first android drawing tablet was the first gen Lenovo Yogabook which had a Wacom EMR pen, but the tablet's specs were garbage and loading Medibang on a 1080p screen had its menus take up over half the screen real estate. I miss that silly thing, though!
