    Good honest update Darren. I think so many underestimate how stress and no down time can affect us. I’ve had similar issues past year with stress, so tuned down the training as body was always fatigued. We live and learn and hope you are better soon 🙏🏼

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning

      Hey Donato. I don't think we like to admit things need to change sometimes and thats when the hole gets deeper, I've been there before and only thanks to a freak tie break did I stop before going into over training syndrome. This time I've caught it very early so its more about a mental shift than anything else :)

    Haha I’ve been to so many appointments where the epicentre ends up being tight neck and shoulders, totally understand where you’re coming from with this!! It’s amazing how this affects us, I’m glad it’s nothing too serious, hoping you can resume training sensibly next week!

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning

      Thanks Andy, apparently one side of your neck holds blockages for logical thinking and the other emotional, when you dive into it its quite deep stuff! I am a week behind with videos to real life and the calf hasn't prevented training but something still not quite right there, need to get some scans to take it further now but main thing for now is its not running related (sounds strange I know)

    Hi Darren to be honest when I was running at my best I was just running 3 times a week and won club championship twice think people run to much your body needs recovery or can't perform properly that's why can honestly say I've never been injured for years I'm 64 and still running same way not as fast but still out there . Everybody should watch the Salomon trail dog video and listen to it carefully this applies to non runners as well . Anyway hope you get well soon looking forward to seeing you back running

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin, the issue is everyone is very different. You have fast responder's, slow responders, runners with a high baseline and runners with a low one. I actually run a maximum of five days a week and bare in mind two of these days are just 4-5 miles very easy, its more about ensuring the recovery days are recovery days, this is where people go wrong for me, in expecting to run every session too fast or long...but also in what I have done and not recognising that they're doing too much in life as a whole and adapting when necessary...its a tough one to crack. I've not seen Trail Dog yet, its on the list now though :)

      @@DarrenSmithTrailRunning do realise everyone is different this is just what works for me my mate Ricky Lightfoot runs most days works for him best your right people run to fast to often it's hard to get balance right

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning

      To be fair I think I am similar to you, my coach tried me on running every day 3 years ago and while it led to some of my best form it destroyed me (alongside other factors of course.) I think the running time is about right now, just need to ensure I am getting good quality rest :)

    It's a shame to hear that all the pressures are running you down. I really enjoy watching all your videos and first started watching/following you after watching your video on the 3 peaks which I too aim aiming for in April.
    I'm always looking out for new videos but your health and mind set is really important!! I'd like to see more quality videos but like you say maybe it's best to TH-cam on the back burner for a bit. Just purchased 2 pairs of shoes that you recommended the Hoka Speedgoat 4 and Scot Supertrac 2.0 for training running and possibly the Rombalds Stride in a few weeks time. 😀
    Come back when your ready and I'll look forward to hearing about your progress 👍👍👍

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Perry, I just need to find a better balance over the coming weeks but there will certainly be videos for the next three weekends at least. Good to hear the reviews have helped, the Supertrac is my ever steady I always know when in doubt I can reach for that and it'll do almost everything.

      Yes read that and a tonne others on the same principle...thats the irony of it all, I know what I need I just need to get on with it. Its just taken me a while to fully come to terms with everything, the general time issue is not going to change but that is where I'll try and junk my running to have most for its real purpose and a smaller portion for the content. :)

    Take it easy Darren, I find running with a friend a great distresser, no video, no set pace just a run putting the world to rights. I try to get one 'social' run in a week to remind me why I love running.

    I can relate to that n tendency to drift onto other things, particularly picking my phone up for no good reason. I sometimes just leave my phone in the other room if I'm attempting to concentrate on something, as it's amazing at distracting me. I've seen a few video about dopamine detox, where we have accidentally trained ourselves to need constant new simulation, but I've never tried that. Seems to ring true though. Good luck with working through this mate.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh the phone thing is crazy really and the the quickest win, shows the number Zuckerberg and the likes have done on us. The Dopamine comment is very true I've seen similar studies and this was the catalyst for me running without a watch for some time, because I was too reliant on it for positive feedback which when things are going bad isn't good :)

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crazy, same with me. I randomly grab my phone at times. I work from home, so even during meetings, I start to zone out and grab my phone. So friggin' frustrating once you start noticing it...

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning

    I used my theragun on my neck and shoulders as much as my legs for that reason, I also don't take a phone or GoPro out on runs so I focus on the present and have screen time break - I know not so easy for you TH-camrs but sometimes you have to put yourself first

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark, I hadn't thought about the thera gun for my neck, will have to give that a go! The big thing will be separating my run time, making some specific to content and others purely training...the blocker is time, but isn't that always the case, will figure it out though

  • @peakproofuk
    @peakproofuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Take is easy. I tried starting my channel last year with teenage kids, work going quiet, starting a new business, some mental health pressures, trying to stay fit, and more… I had to pause the videos to earn money and sort head out. These are strange times.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Paul, its a tough balance to find for sure. the easiest fix is giving up content creation, that solves it all HOWEVER, it doesn't fill the gap I miss when I'm not doing it and I know I would be less fulfilled if I gave up, I'll get there. Shame on your side, I really did enjoy your reviews but you've got to do whats right for your mental and general health!

    Hi Darren. Have you ever had your running technique examined? You appear to land very much on the forefoot which could be causing injury or effecting your running efficiency? I understand that a tripod or full foot landing is much better. There is lots of information regarding this on the net including videos on TH-cam that explain this. Just wondered if this is something you have looked at before and if so your views on it? Hope things quickly improve for you and keep up the great content.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, I have spent a lot of time looking at form and technique with my coach. You're right the most economical way of running is midfoot strike but most say mid to fore is OK...I am a mix of both to be fair it depends on the terrain and shoe. But in terms of where the injuries come from its much more complicated I am afraid, much of which comes from a decade of programming my body to work a certain way in my Ballet career, undoing that is near impossible so its a constant process of trying to make it better.

    Very honest video which I can relate to quite a lot. You already have the answer to your problems when you mentioned not being present. We spend our time planning the future and dragging up our past yet the only thing we ever have or can have is Now the present moment.
    I would heartily recommend reading Eckhart Tolle the power of now.
