    If you see a ransomware message on your computer saying that it is under attack, your computer may not still be hacked.
    Maybe the message is just a bait that popped up when you opened a phishing email or clicked on an advert. But the message has buttons/options such as "make payment" or "decrypt" and clicking on these is what actually causes the ransomware to download or become activated and take hold of your computer.

    I had about 1,233,424 files on my C drive, all of them threatened to be encrypted forever. If that would have happened, I could not access, move, delete, or open all of them. Even worse--those files would disappear for good--my 0 sector would go away--and my computer would be dead!
    I knew what to do - shut down the computer and reboot to stop the ransomware program from completing its payload and causing me permanent damage to the computer. I never gave in to the ransomware hacker and this attitude saved my computer!

      @@sashaknight7222 in what way does a philosophical belief about the role of public servants, to pass up large salaries in the private sector for the opportunity in a non-corrupt capitalism federal government have virtually anything to do with trickle down economic tax rates? I understand private companies are being hit with ransomware attacks but my entire point is our domestic intelligence agencies have lost potentially great minds due to the infinite corruption in our intelligence communities and perhaps the extra money wouldn’t be needed if the economy had any level of security or generational longevity.
      I don’t even understand the logic of arguing about it, you believe it has nothing to do with corruption but corruption is subjective so saying “it has nothing to do with corruption” is your opinion, you can’t declare you have the only correct viewpoint and that it’s not a complex or expansive topic but you have the simple answer and if I don’t agree I must somehow believe in trickle down economic tax rates…where do you make that connection?

    • @SteveGillham
      @SteveGillham 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Bob Richards I am not saying its right, this is just how Business operate.
      Business all make risk judgements, however Cyber is little understood at senior level so they under rate the damaged.
      For example,
      Sony's senior vice president of information security, Jason Spaltro, to point out back in 2007 that "it’s a valid business decision to accept the risk" of a security breach, adding, "I will not invest $10 million to avoid a possible $1 million loss."
      How little he understood the actual risk.
      This still happens today.
      I totally agree they should take it more seriously, however if you actually look at the Share price of Businesses before and after a breach, it does not really impact the Business from a share value point of view, and even the customers still go back to uses these Businesses so we are all to blame.

    Hmmm, so this is what Gmail is doing. I have two or three gmail accts. One of them I use sparingly. The other day, I went to check that account to see what emails I had in there. I get this annoying message telling me my account is outdated and I need to update my information. I get TIRED of this routine where EVERYBODY thinks they need my information. I just decided NOT to update. I did think it was very odd that I had not received any mail to that account in some time. I blew it off and just continued on my way elsewhere on the net.
    Some time later, I needed to receive an email on that account. I kept waiting and waiting. Finally, I decided to update that account. BINGO AND BADA BING! All of the sudden I had a gazillion emails. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF RANSOM WARE, either you PAY the ransom, which is giving them your 'updated information' or you don't get your emails. ILLEGAL!! @@SteveGillham .. actually businesses do but mainly banks and Governments. America actually holds contest for hackers and those few successful ones are hired by the American government on contract employment. But for the most part you are right most buisnesses do not. Years back, the college's stated I.T security was one of the hottest careers moving forward in which requires a strong knowledge of the hacking measures and how to avoid hackers in day to day operations and training of staff how to help them avoid hackers which is simple . Full time I.T. security requires the specialist to monitor all in that buisness on everything essential online therefore a lot of money being dished out for a position that does not generate income for the company itself so overhead expenses could be high to ad these services to payroll so in that sense, you are correct as buisnesses do not want to pay for it.
      I do not see this as a hot career choice but with the way things are going with all the talented hackers commiting crimes on a serious level, there will be some more jobs being created over time in the field but not as much as the college's try to promote.

      Business look at all types of risks that could affect their Business, however annoying Ransomware is, it does not ultimately affect the share price, so paying ransomware is a small price to pay in the larger scheme of things.

    This is so stupid. Here is the take, Stop opening up strange e-mails. Don't brows the internet with a work computer. If you do have strange email, and want to see what it is, open in a different system off the network. The most important take, educated the work staff so that they do not let it in, cause at the end of the day, it's done due to user error. Stop going on porn strange sites, using your work computer. And, never pay. Never, never pay. All of these things can me fixed, all these malwares, are cake to get rid of from a system. Most times, and simple AVG will clean it and get you going again. Rarely, do you actually need real skill to clean out your system from ransom where, and for gods sake, gets yourselves and IT department, staff it. Business are really letting this aspect of companies fall through the cracks, because they think one IT is enough, get 10, 20 IT pros if you are big company. A function of an IT is to educate staff on what not to do, or problems can occur. The military for hackers, omg. This is a business, just trace the IPs and go after the hackers. Pay FBI to do the work, if it's a big job, if they fail at it, investigate them too. Our country likes to pass this buck and blame others for hacks, or anything that goes wrong, instead of looking in the mirror. We call others dumb, while causing the problems ourselves and just finding someone else to pin it on. Today is Russia, tomorrow it will be someone else. Grow Up children, it's time to leave home and be adults.
