- If you are new to polymer clay and want to get stuck straight into creating - then you've come to the right place!
I'm Nicole from The Little Craft House and today I am going to talk you through 3 super simple yet super cute polymer clay slabs!
Slabs are a great way to begin your polymer journey as you can let your creativity flow and create something that is fun and unique to you! (if your wondering what a 'slab' is - they are basically a flat 'slab' of clay decorated with other clay elements that you can then cut your earring components from!)
Although this tutorial's main focus is on creating the Slabs, I do touch slightly on conditioning, and at the end I talk quickly about finishing your pieces.
I don't really talk about the baking process - however, I recommend you check your package of clay for recommended curing times and temps.
All tools, clays and other accessories used in this tutorial can be purchased from our store The Little Craft House (located in Kenwick WA) or through our website (Australia only) www.thelittlecrafthouse.com.au
I hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Thanks so much for this. I found you while researching making my own buttons for handmade/knitted/crocheted clothes. I think I've just found a new craft 😂😂
Oh fantastic! Welcome! I have button making on my list of things to make. I have a bunch of plain black cardigans that need a bit of a colour - so polymer buttons it will be!

@@isabellrc are you local? I’d love to meet up with some clay friends in my area!
I love how you have your cutters stored/arranged! I have a gazillion cutters…..stored in a bazillion boxes. Needless to say, that cutters don’t always end up in their correct box after a project.
Thank you! I also have a big box and tray full as well! Haha. Much easier to find the ones on the wall though!
Great video for beginners!! ❤
Thank you so much!
@26:20, I really like that leaf effect!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for showing this. Makes me thing I could do it as a beginner. Do you use anything to add gloss to it?

Thank you for the tutorial. How thick do you make the earrings?
My earrings are usually around 3mm thick. :)
Wow u helping us alot ..love it...what kind of brand of clay u use?
Sculpey Premo and Souffle are my favourites so I use them the most. I also use Fimo and Cernit regularly too- as they have some colours I love!
Hi! Just starting to learn! I have a couple of questions: how do you reduce the clay down to the tiny square of those rolled colors? I’m so confused! Also how do you use that thickness guide? Thanks!
Just keep squeezing and applying pressure the the cane. It will reduce it.
The thickness guide keeps the clay level -stopping your roller from rolling too thin.
Hi..thanks you so much...hiw long do you bake them in the oven and how thick are the clay once baked? Thanks 🥰
I usually roll my pieces to about 3mm thick. I generally bake for 45-60mins
Great tutorial. Have you ever made your own clay to use?
Thank you. No I don’t make my own. This is polymer clay(store bought)- it’s not able to be made at home due to the plastic nature of it. There are similar recipes around- but the overall result would not be the same.
What was the method of drying and polishing the pieces?
It requires baking in the oven to cure
hi what color is dream is form?
Where do you buy a thickness guide?
We sell them in our store - The Little Craft House
What kind brand of clay u use?
Mainly Sculpey Premo and Souffle, but also some Cernit and Fimo
Where do I buy the thickness device.
Denise Golden
We sell them in our store. :)
Thank you. Where in Australia are you from? I’m Australian and I pronounce ‘pieces’ differently to how you do 😂 I live in Victoria
I would love all these earrings with a clip, not a pierced post.
I have a question ...can I bake them in airfryer
I’m not sure sorry
How u store your scrapes
It depends. I have a tile on my bench for fresh scraps- if I know I’ll use them soon- I’ll just pop them on there. Others I pop into a storage container.
How thick are the slabs in mm ??
I like to do them to about 3mm
Ooo you're a local.. I can post you one of those dolphins I sculpted, if you want to use it as a template🗝
I have a question. How to dry them without oven?
You can’t. It is polymer clay which requires baking to cure.
@@TheLittleCraftHouse So did you bake them? I was also confused whether baking was done for the ones in the video
@@nehadhavale1670 sure did! at the 26min mark I say i did!
@@TheLittleCraftHouse🙈
polymer
Hi, what do we use these slabs for?? pls reply..
To make earrings is my main reason- but you could also do other jewellery pieces, trinket dishes…. Anything your imagination desires!!!
