That's concentration! Bravo! The line never falters! Please, I'd give a cookie to know when this was filmed. The voice is clearly at its absolute peak! Many thanks.
I think so too. What I like about Siepi (apart from the cello-like beauty of his instrument) is that he was largely self-taught. And with his northern Italian dialect guttural "R" he is quite a bit of an outlaw in the usually quite stern school of "correct singing". (Italian nobility had that kind of "French" accent too, though.) And he opposed Mussolini and had to come to my homecountry in 1941 until the fascist aera was finally over. I'd like to know more about him. A. von Uri, Switzerland
I heard this fantastic bass in Faust in 1968. Jon Alexander was the tenor. Anna Moffo was to sing Margarite. She cancelled. They subbed Rena Kabavianska..forgive my misspelling. She was very much a disappointment. Flat flat flat .I head Tebaldi shrieking Gioconda. There was a fantastic Trovatore . With James McCracken, Louis Quilico, Irene Dalas and the sopranos name is illuding me right now... These were the days when the Met toured ! They should consider doing it again as a way to revive Opera
When Verdi left alone he sang this aria walking in his garden.. How great he was. Puccini and Verdi are both too legs , to arms , to parts of the brain and to vocal chords of the Opera personified!
Ella giammai m' amò! No, quel cor chiuso è a me, amor per me non ha! Over son? Quei doppier presso a finir! L' aurora imbianca il mio veron! Già spunta il dì! Passar veggo i miei giorni lenti!
Lui corre i 100 metri in 6 secondi !!
Immortale !
Invaluable archive. You did Good, Primobaritono, Bravi to Siepi and to you
Quel primo 'Amor..' a mezza voce ! Quel canto sempre sfumato...quel colore di mille sfumature....e quel legato! Che dire...........
Be still my heart!! What a voice ... thanks so much for posting :)
Superb, thanks a million,
John
Highest class, great artistry, thank you,

Good character as well, to have turned down fascism, and chosen exile.
golden voice.
Splendido! 💕💕💕💕

R.I.P.
For german listeners the "R" of Siepi sounds very noble and beautiful because it's not a tounge-R but a throat-R.
when was this taken?
He looks like in a movie!
When Verdi left alone he sang this aria walking in his garden.. How great he was. Puccini and Verdi are both too legs , to arms , to parts of the brain and to vocal chords of the Opera personified!
Ella giammai m' amò!
No, quel cor chiuso è a me,
amor per me non ha!
Io la rivedo ancor
contemplar triste in volto
il mio crin bianco il dì
che qui di Francia venne.
No, amor per me non ha.
Amor per me non ha!
Over son?
Quei doppier presso a finir!
L' aurora imbianca il mio veron!
Già spunta il dì!
Passar veggo i miei giorni lenti!
Ah! Se il serto regal a me
desse il poter di leggere nei cor,
che Dio sol può veder!
Se dorme il prence, veglia il traditore;
il serto perde il re, il consorte l' onore!
"half tone sharp" is what happens when the sample rate is set to 48 kHz, not 44.1 ..
it is really annoying
Incredible performance of the great Siepi;
but it's conducted much too fast!
Yeah, he couldn't pronounce 'R' correctly.. but that didn't stop him to make a great career !!
Sounds wonderful but not operatically sung is it?
What would make you think so? I would say very much so, the sound legato and full of emotion, imo it has everything the piece wants:)
Che nobilta'
sounds ok
Sounds MAGNIFICENT!
Sounds great.
Not as good as Pinza.
Stop making comparisons!
Siepi is awesome!
Both are great, both are much better than Pape.
Are you Okey?)
