Haughmond Abbey, located in Shropshire, England, was founded around 1130 by William Fitz-Alan for Augustinian canons. Initially a small community, it quickly grew in wealth and influence, becoming a significant religious centre by the late 12th century due to local patronage and land acquisitions.
Throughout the Middle Ages, the abbey prospered economically and spiritually. It owned extensive estates that provided income, allowing the canons to maintain their monastic lifestyle and engage in charitable works. Architecturally, Haughmond evolved with Norman and Gothic features, becoming a local hub for education and literacy.
Haughmond Abbey's decline began in the early 16th century, ending with its dissolution in 1539 during Henry VIII's reign. Its lands were sold, and its buildings fell into ruin. Today, managed by English Heritage, the site offers valuable insights into medieval monastic life and architecture.

Hi Alessa & Brett! The architecture was stunning. I loved the ornate arched windows. It was good to hear the monks went out into their parishes and looked after the sick and those in need. I found the history so interesting. The depth of your research is truly impressive. Brilliant drone footage at the end. Spectacular! ❤❤

A place I have never heard of before but an impressive sight and the Black Cannons sounded as those they had the better deal of it while living at the Abbey, the monks must have had a very tough existence. Interesting that women had importance and influence back then too and also interesting that rich people thought being a benefactor ensuring an afterlife in paradise. I had a feeling that the abbey would be haunted and a perfect place for this to happen. Great drone footage to finish, cheers Alan

Alessa and Brett, another well researched video. It was interesting that they didn't have yo wear the scratchy garbs and, from what you said, had really great food too. I loved this video as I do all of them. Beautiful drone footage, too. Thanks for sharing.

The spooky story of the monk was very intriguing. Loved looking around with you. The drone footage was amazing, take care x Julie and Tony x

The abbey ruins are impressive and look like a lot of fun to explore. The architecture is impressive, and the black cannons sound like they were actually helpful. The ghost story is always interesting, and the drone footage is great. I can't imagine chewing on peppercorns, though! It looks like the ruins are being well taken care of.

Hey guys. Love the entrance door. For starters. This looks a great little place to explore. I bet the Abbots rooms were pretty posh back then. Nice windows. Naughty brothers taking 40 winks 😊. It certainly looks like it would be haunted. As always enjoy watching and being educated. Great job 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻.

Thank you so very much for the kind comments, really appreciated! We went there on a weekday, I believe it was a Thursday and there were only 2 families visiting, but they were not there for very long so we basically had the site again to ourselves. There is another 'carpark' just up the path from the entrance to the abbey with more parking there, I believe that one is for walkers along the trail but there is additional spots there if need be! Hopefully that helps :)
