Kilpeck Castle was established shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066, likely by the Norman family of de Normanville. As a motte-and-bailey structure, it featured a keep on a raised earthwork (the motte) and an enclosed courtyard (the bailey). This design was typical of Norman military architecture.
The castle was part of a network of fortifications to secure Norman control over the Welsh Marches, a region on the border between England and Wales. By the 14th century, Kilpeck Castle had lost much of its military importance and gradually fell into decline.
Kilpeck Church, also known as the Church of St. Mary and St. David, dates back to around 1140. It is renowned for its Romanesque architecture and exquisite stone carvings.
The church is famous for its elaborate south door, featuring intricate carvings of biblical scenes, mythical creatures, and symbolic motifs. The corbels, or stone supports under the eaves, are particularly notable, depicting a variety of figures such as animals, human heads, and other fantastical designs.

great tour, alessa and brett! i loved the pretty flowers. quite an interesting font in the church, heavy stone! i like the walk around the grounds best. the greens of the surrounds always pop so beautifully against the browns of the stones and cloudy skies. hope you are both well! 🛴❤

The stone work is outstanding. It is always interesting to me how if the Lord was a member of a certain church , so were you, but as this video again shows there were a lot of extra beliefs.

The corbels are the most interesting features of the church - so don't show us any of them.
Completely agree, although we did 'try' and zoom in to a few of the corbels but unfortunately only for a second, at 4:15 and 4:46 we only managed to get a few in which was a shame! Apologies, but this really doesn't take away the beauty the church holds. Appreciate your time and comments :)
