I don't understand why these shows take established franchises and thier characters and do an entirely new "original take" yet they don't take any elements from the games for inspiration. At this point thier just using the IP as a skin suit. Like ffs its not that hard to just make a faithful adaptation of something, the blue print is handed to you on a silver platter
It's so idiotic to say they're going to make a show based on a game, then completely change it to something unrecognizable for anyone that's a fan of the show. They should make a show on a farm in Kansas with just farmers and cows and call it Star Wars.
Sucks that the show is exactly like that mission on yakuza kiwami 2 about a movie director regretting that his movie was a total flop because the action scenes weren’t as good as the previous movies.
It would've been good as it's own thing. But they just had to change almost everything about everything and everyone yet still kept the name of Like a Dragon. Poor adaptation, decent show overall in my opinion.
I'll put my 2 cents in. Well 6 cents since I have 3 opinions. 1. They change the characters personality way too much, and only cherry picking the popular one to be on the show. I'll elaborate on this one at my next opinion. 2. "Beyond the Game" could still follow the story from the game, but rather make it like an alternate option from the game plot. This can in fact change the story and ending, but at least it doesn't change the characters personality, like I mentioned in my first opinion. What makes a character A CHARACTER? characteristics. And so far, nobody has the characteristics right. Kiryu wants to be Dragon of Dojima so bad, Nishiki calls Shimano a low rank (if this was in the game he's practically asking for a chop), Shibusawa is stupid, Sai no Hana is just a leader of milfs, Saejima is short and a freak (justice for my man), and they all work for Dojima, thus make him a powerhouse (not saying he is not, but he's not the only powerful chairman in Tojo). I have few more examples but let's stop right there for spoiler's sake. 3. No humor. at. all. No writer thought it's good to put some silly scene here and there? make people chuckle, have a nice icebreaker from the "tense" drama going on. I'm using "tense" very loosely here, because not only the story is not interesting, but it also doesn't even make sense. I don't wanna spoiler again so I'm just gonna say, at some point into the episodes, it's looking more like Judgement rather than Yakuza. The fight scene already bad, just throw some humor there at least. I'm sorry for yapping here because nobody I know watch this show and love LAD/Yakuza games like I do, so maybe give your 2 cents as well?
I hate what they've done with Saejima. Dojima acted like he died after the single bullet wound. There goes the Tiger of Sasai. I hope they reveal he's still alive or something because that's awful, and I'm giving the show the benefit of the doubt and letting it cook but if that's the end of Saejima as a throwaway character, I will genuinely be disappointed.

Yeah the fight scenes look awful. Maybe its just me who grew up and loving Hong Kong action but i expect something similar but it's not good. Like I'm not asking for like some acrobatics or flips or anything but at least make it good and entertaining. They could at least sped up the footage to make it look good. Hell in The Flash movie, when Batman is fighting the Russian soldiers is more entertaining even if its all CGI & Sped up footage & mostly a stuntman in the Bat suit. They could at least hire a better editor and chose better sound for the impacts. I rather watch the action if the hit sounds were over the top like the HK movies.

I really don't like what they did with Yumi as a character. I don't like that we're missing Kiryus trainer and they just made Kazama do it instead.
I feel like they could've been closer with more characters when it comes to hair and costumes, Nishiki just looks like Harukas abusive daddy
W music, ngl kurohyou music kinda gives me PTSD tho💀
I couldn't finish to watch the show. Multiple times I got tired and was done with the boring story. The movie from 2007 and the stage play is by far the best adaptations we have for this beloved game.
I have one thing I hated
My kyodai Green Yakuza (The balls out guy) was killed i think
I allready know this show is another halo situation when director open his mouth so this isnt suprising at all
The moment I heard the director deliberately forbade the actors from learning anything about the characters they were going to portray I know it would suck but when I saw the first trailer it cemented the reality that “yup, it’s 💩 “ lol
Love to the actors though, they gave it their all. That’s the only good thing I can say about this show
In the next episode, Shimano gets shot by Aizawa, who isn't in Kiwami/1.
Lol really?
@adityayurangga4953 nah. I'm just predicting what might happen. I highly doubt that would happen. But if it does, the writers definitely should call it quits
the fact that something like that can literally sound believable after seeing how the first few episodes turnt out is kinda sad lol
@@anom2619 I haven't seen the show yet. What crazy stuff happens in the show? I already knew Haruka is not in the show which is stupid.
@@Tenyearjointsforever saejima is a midget and gets shot.. shimano has a full head of hair... shibusawa dies on the toilet LOL.. its all over the place
also kiryu gets on his knees and begs to "become" the dragon of dojima... his ENTIRE character is based around the fact that he hates that title because he does not care for titles... the show is kinda wack
I agree with you they could have use the soundtracks from the games also where the hell is receive you one of kiryu popular battle themes of all times and it would hype the fans up but they chose not to no wonder why this show is bad
Damn even the previous yakuza movie wasn't this bad😂
I'm still waiting for a judgment series they promised years ago.
Let's all be honest. *The Kurohyou show was better.*
Kurohyou is Pretty Awesome🔥🔥🔥🔥
Honestly if they just stuck with the original story like the games it would be goated
The second I saw the Actor who plays Kiryu, I knew it was DOA.
Sorry that dude is like. 98lbs and 5'5"?
The script is a trash. The direction is ok, the actors are good. Poor actors
I wanted to give em the benefit of the doubt after they said they wanted to "do their own thing". Yeah, Halo tried that too.
I hate what they've done with Saejima. Dojima acted like he died after the single bullet wound. There goes the Tiger of Sasai. I hope they reveal he's still alive or something because that's awful, and I'm giving the show the benefit of the doubt and letting it cook but if that's the end of Saejima as a throwaway character, I will genuinely be disappointed.
to be fair Japanese people arent tall so not much you can do with saejima its either find a tall actor or find a hench actor
"If you want a series or movie faithful to the game, just go play the game" These fkrs dont understand that us fans want more people to get into our favorite stories in videogames.
Making a series/movie faithful to the game is not only a gate to bring more people to play the games but also a way for us to share those stories with people we like and dont play videogames.
I was so Hyped for Halo tv series, they butchered the series, I was Hyped when I saw a Yakuza series announced but wary, then I saw the "We are going to take our own route" BS (Like Halo did) And knew it was going to be trash...
4:09 "Yakuza has been 0 for 3 in the past 3 releases" by Cvit... I'm sorry but what? What does he mean by that? And if he does mean what he said, is he being serious?!?!... I'm so stunned by this statement that I don't know what to say... Like, if he means what I think he means, It's like saying Devil May Cry 2 is not a bad game.
Three episodes were released. That might be what be meant but whatever.
i looked at the original tweet and hes talking about he doesnt like: Gaiden, Infinite Wealth and the new show
@@FrederickVonFazbear was infinite wealth that bad? I have it but I have preorder bias. Gaiden I can chuck to the spy fighting style without even thinking about it
@@zakariyamalik1352 They improved the combat and there's a whole new area to explore (Hawaii) but the story is a hit or miss for most people. All in all, i don't think the game is that bad.
@@FrederickVonFazbearAlso ishin kiwami
I've only seen episode 1, but I really like Nishiki, he's just as pathetic as he was in 0
This show is to the yakuza game series what the live action mario bros movie was to the mario bros series. Both have next to nothing from the games aside from a few nods or references and the rest 98% is pure bs
Taiga also looks like just some random thug you encounter in the game.
wtf is doujima 💀 why the extra u💀💀💀💀
Not surprised. I lost hope for Yakuza ever since Yakuza Kiwami came out.
The last episode kinda fire. The part where omi clan vs tojo clan 🔥
Kurohyou OST goated
As a yakuza show solid as a adaptation of the game shit not borderlands level lmao
And no one's surprised.
Still rarher watch this show than play gaiden's dub and hearing yong ye fuck it all up
Now that I've watched episodes 4-6, I have to say I liked this show a lot. I literally screamed at the beginning of episode 6, they executed certain moment of the game perfectly in my opinion. Still don't know what to think about the way Kiryu thinks about Kazama though. Also I was really hoping more interaction between Kiryu and Haruka.
Initially when I heard about the show, I had one wish. I wanted them to show Nishiki's sister. And oh boy, Miho was perfect, I can't play 1 or Kiwami the same way anymore.
Overall I could give this show smt around 7.5/10
This show shits in the face or the games AND the 2007 movie which is a far better representation.
I kinda like some of the shows ideas, Kiryu being more selfish ungratefull brat, Nishiki and his sister get more character than Y1, YK still has better Nishiki but its to early for saying that. Battle choreography was decent imo hate that there`s none tho, actually glad that they`re dont makign 1 to 1 recap of the story, it wouldnt work.
Watch Twilight of the Warriors: Walled in instead
Yakuza 1 dubbed was better than this show
Fuuma-Oyabun!!!
to the surprise of no one
shimano isn't bald and kiryu doesn't play with toy race-cars what even is the fucking point man?
But but japanese lovers said me that Japan makes things better than US, why this live action sucks like Joker 2? 😭
Well I loved the first 3 episodes sooo 😊 I can’t wait for next 3 episodes
Even the teather version is better
Yup time to go back playing the real yakzua games because I have all the yakzua games to 0 1 2 3 4 5 and 6 all of them on my ps4 on the disc version including both like a dragon on digital version which is yakzua 7 like a dragon ps plus version and infinite wealth digital version on ps5 and ps4 the show sucks I haven’t seen the show yet but everyone is right is one of the worst and awful show of all times in 2024
Even the Yakuza stageplay was better than this
It’s not a good Yakuza show but take the name away (to be honest there’s not too much else) and it’s not a terrible show. If you changed a few names and terms you wouldn’t really know.
I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it.
No shit
Hearing Mr Blue Sky play made me laugh for the wrong reasons this feels like generic Hollywood American slop despite being made by Japan
Majima mariachi fight song is so shit
Tbh I fuck with their "own thing" cuz they're not just pulling shit out of their ass, they're remixing stuff in ways I personally find pretty interesting
It's like the RE2 remake approach but as an adaptation
no fucking way!
Sorry but watched it all and it's fine but call it something else bc everything of it is not yakuza expect the character's but all of it does not feel like yakuza
The movie was way better
Hey cornbread thinks for liking my comment
The issue isn't that they want to do their own thing. The show is just poorly executed and doesn't know what it wants to be.
Don't watch this show, just watch the 2007 movie it's so much better than this crap.
As a crime show it’s enjoyable but as a YAKUZA title nah not even close
I knew the show was bad the moment I noticed they made the classic decision of directors who don't know absolutely nothing about the source material, that is just mixing popular elements of many different games in the series in one story instead of confusing in one entry. They took Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 1 plot.
Making a live action means that you are gonna do it with the game's story and this is not a life action
It's just a different show now at this point
I mean if you literally changed the names nothing is gonna be affected
But the series is pretty good
