    Always great info from your channel - thanks for the encouragement to be patient with my young dragonfruit, they’ll flower when they’re old enough (and when it’s a little warmer)!

    Hi. In Puerto Rico I've been having buds since late February. What I have noticed, in my short experience, heat + rain. Even though I water the plants, they bloom after a good rain event. Great channel. Hope you get fruits soon.

      It can take 3-5 years from seed, you can graft them for faster results.

    You mention that the maturer growing-downwards branches are the ones that will bud. Is that what happens in the wild or is it from experience?
    If I let the branches grow, raised off the ground and supported but allowed to meander rather than up and over a trellis, would they not bud and fruit so well? Thanks! 🐉

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will fruit almost anywhere on a mature branch that is on a healthy plant. People report getting more fruit on branches that are low hanging when the plant is prune like a palm tree.

    Great video Paul, thank you.
    About not getting fruits, I have a question, I am in South Florida and about 2 years ago, I planted approx. 14 Dragon Fruit plants (mixed varieties) in groups of 4, grew very well on their 4-foot trellis, however the plants produced many, many beautiful, healthy-looking flowers but did not set fruit, I only got 3 fruits in the 2-year period. I have tried pollinating them in different ways, using my hand, placing the pollen in a container and using a soft brush to pollinate them, swapping the pollen from plant to plant with a brush or leaving them alone without success.

    Like I said, the plants and flowers look very healthy and pretty; an observation, I don't know if it's normal, in a group of plants, I find many bugs at the inner base of the flowers, they look like small brown weevils, they can only fly a little, (Nitops craigheadi ???) I don't know if they are harmful or beneficial, I don't know if that has something to do with no bearing fruit, apart from that, I don't see any other bug outside of the plants that affects them, any suggestions? Thanks in advance
    I found a video that shows something similar to what I see inside the flowers:

      I think it needs to be cross pollenated with pollen from a different variety.

    Hi Paul
    I have a cutting growing in my 25gal pot with 36” high trellis, so my one cutting hit top and bent over the side I tipped it, but it been kinda stunted since. It about 48” long so come to top and 8” hang over do you think I should take 6-8” more so it stops just above the trellis I ve been waiting and waiting no new growth any where ? It’s under 300w led for 8hrs a day temp at 72-77 60% humidity

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Plants can be stubborn and may start new growth at a lower place. Next time, train the branch to bend back down with that set up. Temperature is another key factor for growth. Many of our plants go dormant in the Fall and Winter.

      @@RAREDRAGONFRUIT thank you Paul You absolutely correct it took another 7-10 days and finally it shot out 5 shoots 3 are node by node so sadly 1 may have to go to keep 4 hopefully 🤞 yes Patience is a virtue I was lacking all my life, well atleast the first 3 decades thankfully over last decade and having kids I gained sum patience ☺️ I do still have three cuttings in limbo 2 rooted waiting on growth, my yellow paloria still dormant no roots she’s going on 30+ days. I am planning to get a second heat mat and maybe that will work. They re all inside till March/April. I have three more cutting being shipped thinking either water roofing or sand ☺️I have a small fish tank heater maybe I ll do water rooting first 😉

    How long does it take to get these guys flowering from seed? And how old are some of these huge plants you have?
    I started my dragon fruit adventure a few months ago and have 2 verities going now. Started really slow but they've been taking off the last few weeks.
    Thanks for sharing your journey and tips.

      Cuttings are a better and faster way to grow them, seedlings don't usually grow like the parents. Do you live in California or Florida by chance?
