This song. University.96 97 ..A love of mine. So beautiful.. can we say REM were & are unmatched!? And the best band in the world? Sheer perfection & mastery.

This song is timeless. The lyrics, the sound, the power. It's powerful yet it rips your soul apart with those lyrics. "You let go on me". We miss you guys! It's great to see Peter Buck (still playing his Rickenbacker), Mike Mills (also playing his Rickenbacker bass from the early days) and Bill Berry getting together often to play out live! Especially with some of their backup musicians from many tours until R.E.M. disbanded. They are still the same old guys that love playing music. Not for the money either! They no longer have a NEED for money. This is simply for the fun of it.
I'm sad that the only one that refuses to join up every now and again is Michael Stipe. He just won't do it. Does he really hate performing anymore? He's the only one who became a Californian, almost Hollywood. The other guys stayed as they were, stable, music loving guys who don't take themselves too seriously. They also look as though they truly love each other and enjoy each other's brotherhood. They shared all royalties equally! That was such a smart move. They never became greedy or more important than the other guy. Greedy will always kill or seriously damage a bands friendship or musical brotherhood. Just like Rush. You share everything equally.
My respect to you all. I'm not knocking Michael Stipe, it just seems like wealth and Hollywood changed him and not for the better.

I can fully relate, my first time with REM(listening) was the Automatic For The People my oldest brother introduced me to them (& Dire Straits) still have to have the OEM casete somewhere, for this introduce i will always be thankfull to my oldest brother, i play guitar sometimes & E.Drums but only for me humble simple soul in my work shop(had to spill a lil bit of me(sorry but i just had to) all in all i agree with you Dez 1...

@Jimmy DiKac Dude, keep playing! I'm glad that you spilled that personal info! I still play! Started piano at 7 and bass at 13. Started on guitar at 16. Now I play mainly bass and synth. I try to record and play out as much as possible. I strongly suggest getting a few friends together and start a band. Even if you do it just for fun in the garage or basement! Don't ever give up! The day you give up is the day you kill the fun loving youth that still abides in you!

This was such a revolutionary album from R.E.M. a harder sound in the guitars and just powerful playing! One of their finest albums hands down.

If you could see yourself now, baby
    It's not my fault
You used to be so in control
You're going to roll right over this one
Just roll me over, let me go
    You're laying blame
Take this as no, no, no
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
    Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
It's not my thing so let it go
If you could see yourself now baby,
    The tables have turned
The whole world hinges on your swings
Your secret life of indiscreet discretions
I'd turn the screw and leave the screen,
    Don't point your finger,
You know that's not my thing
You came to bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
    Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
It's not my thing so let it go, now
    You've got a little worry,
I know it all too well,
    I've got your number,
    But so does every kiss-and-tell
Who dares to cross your threshold,
    Or happens on your way,
    Stop laying blame
You know that's not my thing
You know that's not my thing,
You came to bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
    Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
It's not my thing so let it go
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
    Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,
It's not my thing so let it go
You kiss on me, tug on me,
rub on me, jump on me,
You bang on me, beat on me,
hit on me, let go on me,
    You let go on me

I've heard this before and I lost it in the years of music shuffle. And I just heard on the radio this morning on downtown Julie Brown show. Let me tell you, this is not REM's most popular radio song, but it's one of the best!

How many more R.E.M. fans listen on spotify? If any of you didn't know, by listening on spotify adds towards sales, all get streaming R.E.M. :-) some of their albums deserve to sell more, especially the earlier few albums.

I miss bands like REM and U2 at times i got annoyed cause they were always str8t bank on radio and now i dont think REM is even a band at this point and U2 ..let me add its a sad state of affairs when UFkn2 releases an album back in 16 or 17 whenever and no 1 radio smash like since gd kintergarten when pride was a single but considering Bono Edge and co are qiping there asses with 100 dollar bills guess they dont feel it but from way down here u see the changes fkn radio plays NIRVANA like there still new and wont touch Established artists that have neq shit only the same top 40 songs dont deviate from it ,fkn radio in the south sucks period all stations

LOL sadly of course we all know his real life. But everyone can certainly dream certainly I had those kind of dreams about Kate Pierson from The B-52's. Although I dated a girl for a while that thought I looked like Michael Stipe.
