i got this same ojays record rite here at the crib and after i saw this video i had to remake it, not remake it my own but just to play along to a classic! thanks for making this video g! its helped me out a lot with making my chops on the other records i have, BBB TV holding it down for the real hip hop!
@blakphantom there is no "mute group" function on the 2000xl. life would be so much easier! it's a lot more limited. each pad can cut off up to only 2 other pads. in the params screen you have to set your sample to mono, highlight mono, then open window, then hit the pads that you want to cut off. it's a bit tedious, but it gets the job done.
you need a mixer. hook the turntable to the mixer input and the mixer out to the mpc "record in" input. unless you have a 4000 or 2500, you can hook a turntable straight to the mpc. you can find cheap dj mixers at any pawn shop
nice work real smooth.. yo fam can anyone share in this question, other than note off on mpc 2000 is there another way to set the pads so they dont overlap.
i set the sound to note-off and step edit the notes to make them longer or shorter and sometimes shift the bassline a little bit later to sound more natural and not too stiff. i don't play bass. the only instruments i really played growing up was the drums and turntables. i got a decent ear for melodies so that helps a lot.
this is so dope, I think that i have watched this about `100 times already! so do you think that you will ever do anything else with doza raze(sp!) again?
oh okay, usually in 16 level one of the note sounds kinda a lil bit off or strange...not like on keyboard..how do you fix that?.. your bass flow sounds natural ..do you also play bass?.. execuse my english..im not very good at it.. and sorry i ask to many questions...i just wanna learn from you
yeah, i'ma start workin' on an official one soon, but it'll be more like a mixtape with cuts, juggles and double ups. gotta rep the dj skills...haha! something different.
Are those claps that you're layering on the snare different samples of the clap or are they the same sample pitched differently? Like on the 2 beat you push pad 1 and pad 3 for the clap and on the 4 beat you push pad 2 and pad 4. And I'm assuming that the timing is turned off when you lay those down and that is why you are playing two pads at the same time as opposed to going into the params of the pad and programming them to play simultaneously. (so it doesnt sound so stiff I guess?)
@PahiranVsKevin nah man, you ain't gotta tell me. i already know what time it is. but i don't put out mixed and mastered beats on the internet on purpose cuz a lot of cats like to put their "special sauce" on top of them without me knowing. plus i don't like to put tags on my beats. that's why you don't get the full quality joints. unless it's an official release or mixtape, your just gonna get the raw two track. i always track out my beats. that's why i got the 8 outs.
@DoubleLLL nah, i don't like layering snares. i just find a good one and work with that. unless you're talking about with the claps...lol. some producers stack different snares/kicks over each other to make them sound fatter, but i like to stick to one drum sound at a time.
@DiskoDaveBBB a good example of what your talking about, mannie fresh is known for that crisp clap and snare together that he uses in pretty much all of his beats lol.
i'm glad you're back to make more vids! 2010 seems like a promising year. your beats are truly inspirational.. keep it going! btw, is that a mpc flash drive i see?!
man, i have the biggest dilemma, How the hell do you do make a bassline on your mpc? Im using a 500..i see you have dope basslines in all your songs, how the hell do u do it!? Dope ass joint btw.
I just started making beats and cant figure out how to make basslines from scratch. i know a little music theory but i can't make a bassline to save my life. Any tricks and tips would be great. ~1~
You've moved up the list to my favorite producers on TH-cam. Mostly because you make beats I like and you cut like a madman. Partially because it looks like you have the same weird double-jointed thumb as me. Dapz.
haha! told you i got u! 2 million miles comin' soon..lol. as for doujah, maybe. i stopped sending beats over cuz i got the feeling they wanted my "old" style back. i like my new shit better. you never know tho.
Your videos always inspire me to get on my MP. But then get disheartened when the results are no where near as good as yours...lol....oh well. Dope beat as usual though man.
Boom-Bap still runs over this trap sh!t. Thanks Dave.
bassline and vocals were the cherry on top
dope
Hell yeah!! Thansk what i'm talking about.!!!! Thanks for showing this. it was well worth the wait.

Totally agree with this. Unreal talent!

Oh man , what a sick beat !
Props from Poland !
Dope video again... keep'em coming yo.

definetly inspirational stuff

thanks for the info man
good lookin' out...
imma practice my bass
this is so dope, I think that i have watched this about `100 times already!
so do you think that you will ever do anything else with doza raze(sp!) again?
i manually chop. i take sounds one at a time. i usually start with the drums first, then rearrange the pattern to fit with the samples.
where do you get your drums? off records or from the cd library you get? or both? its hard to find cymbals and claps etc on recs.
oh okay, usually in 16 level one of the note sounds kinda a lil bit off or strange...not like on keyboard..how do you fix that?..
your bass flow sounds natural ..do you also play bass?..
execuse my english..im not very good at it..
and sorry i ask to many questions...i just wanna learn from you
been peepin your vids man... you got some killa tee's huh! haha
This is really inspiring! Keep it up

good point boon doc don't use the mpc nomore plus they have different styles both great
I can dig it!
yeah, i'ma start workin' on an official one soon, but it'll be more like a mixtape with cuts, juggles and double ups. gotta rep the dj skills...haha! something different.
thanks and yes it is.
this is nice man
only thing fresher than the tee is those mad beats
dude plz tell me would u recommend an mpc 1000?
what's that track called? pretty dope.
sup, i want to buy a mpc 2000xl too ;) do u cut samples yourself and set it to pads on this video or is mpc 2000xl cutting samples for you ? ;P
where u get clean drums sounds from?
Are those claps that you're layering on the snare different samples of the clap or are they the same sample pitched differently? Like on the 2 beat you push pad 1 and pad 3 for the clap and on the 4 beat you push pad 2 and pad 4.

Pretty amazing man.
Man I really have to get an MPC back again...
Grtz,
ARD
why would i get rid of it?
THE BEST ON THE MPC 2000XL
Dave don't hurt em lol.. So dope
dope man
Question, when you speed up or slow down the sample do you do it by adjusting the pitch on the turntable or do you do it directly through the MPC?
Nice VIdeo! Where do you got the bassline from?
marcus, what up?! u back in MA? i kow you're still holdin' down the cuts. glad ur feelin' the music.
It does though I just run my y cord into the earphone hole not those lines on my turntable. Y chord from the mpc to turntable peace.
@PahiranVsKevin nah man, you ain't gotta tell me. i already know what time it is. but i don't put out mixed and mastered beats on the internet on purpose cuz a lot of cats like to put their "special sauce" on top of them without me knowing. plus i don't like to put tags on my beats. that's why you don't get the full quality joints. unless it's an official release or mixtape, your just gonna get the raw two track. i always track out my beats. that's why i got the 8 outs.

your mpc is sooooo clean and nice, how long have you had that for?
namkrow, what up?! hell yeah, i feel you. we gotta link up.
@DiskoDaveBBB a good example of what your talking about, mannie fresh is known for that crisp clap and snare together that he uses in pretty much all of his beats lol.
nice work!
I connect my mpc to my turntable with a y cord or headphone cord.
@bigonez21 this one for about a year, but my other one for over 9. still gotta break this one in more.
What kind of record player is that?? please respond I'm looking for a new one to use for my beats

I just started making beats and cant figure out how to make basslines from scratch. i know a little music theory but i can't make a bassline to save my life. Any tricks and tips would be great. ~1~
