  • Let's take a look back at this thrilling 2005 1500m men's race at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. With 200m to go, Leonel Manzano, of Texas, was completely off the screen before starting a kick to come out of nowhere to win the race in 3:37:13.
Manzano earned a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in the 1500 for the U.S. Olympic team.

Leo looks like he is struggling the whole race but then he has that whole other gear.

Dude are the announcers blind? They didn’t even start to mention Manzano’s name until the last 60-70. You could clearly see him winding up towards the beginning of the last bend. Anyway, the dude also won silver in the 1500 in the 2012 Olympics.

This was one of the two years that I was the track and field beat writer for my college newspaper so I obsessively followed distance running this year. The announcers in this era were not track experts by any means and were mostly concerned with the team race so they would emphasize the Floridian and Arkanasas athletes. They neglected to mention, for example, that what made Lukezic special was that he placed 4th in the olympic trials the year before

@@gummy5862 How exactly? The whole comment you stated how blind the announcers were regarding Manzano, the fact they didn't mention his name, they should have seen him coming etc. Because you said that he won silver in London, it only makes sense to infer that that was part of your argument. Either that or you're just trying to throw in an unrelated fact.

@@timmytheinventor4746 he started the sentence with “Anyways.” this makes it clear that he is transitioning from the original topic to another, which in this case is the fact that Manzano went on to later win silver in 2012. i agree with gummy. you have the reading comprehension of an 8 year old and yet still pounced at the chance to correct someone. shut up.

Best part of this was the announcers, I mean come on guys! As soon as lead runners hit the last straight away, don’t waste even a second speaking about the guy who is struggling in 7th 😆but maybe how about the guy who looks like he is running on a trav-o-lator machine at the airport while everyone else is running on on normal ground! It took them till he was in the lead by 5 meters before they even brought it up. I had to actually replay it twice to make sure my sound actually was lined up with the video… I’m still not convinced it is 🤣

And they top it off with mispronouncing his name. These guys will always find a way to botch the call.
