In this video, we're reacting to "Planet Of The Bass", a send-up of classic Eurodance tracks and videos
LongestSoloEver is a music producer, songwriter, and teacher.
women are my favorite guy is my favorite line so far
Femboys be like.
Women truly are my favorite guy 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Mine are "How does it mean" and "Yes, it's true, yes, it's true"
"there is nothing to be sad 😭 " is still the winner to me
My straight friends trying to relate to me
When the rhythm is glad, there is nothing to be sad.
That's right! That's right!
Danger and dance, clapping the hands👏
When we’re out in the space

Are you the girl of the love?
As a huge Eurodance fan
I grew up with the 90s music here in Scandinavia. This song just nails it 110%
Like it would no doubt pass as a dance hit back then. It was good times.
Good times? Don't you mean it was (DJ) crazy times?
I genuinely unironically love this song it's so catchy
why wouldnt you love it eurodance is a global sensation and still is played in europe
@basedbroskiworld dear sir I am European, believe me I know eurodance is a bop. I used to jump around to vamos a la playa and the rhythm of the night on the way to school
@@ginevra3719 Lol youll find theres way more recent euro dance music

hey, i produced this song! thanks for reacting 😊
Yo, outstanding work on this!
This song is genius. Great work!!
I saw a video of a French singer who said that regular non-English speakers would like an "English" song just for the fact it was in English and didn't have to make sense then proceeded to perform an original song with broken English and then gibberish and the audience was going nuts for it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dunno if you already meant Adriano Celentano, but he released a song with a similiar premise back in the 70s in complete English gibberish, "Prisencolinensinainciusol". For someone whose native language isn't English this song sounded so accurate lol
@@xpyray Prisencolinensinainciusol... alright! (This is also what came to my mind listening to PotB)
Oh the French comedian? That was hilarious! He was on Conan right?
Most of the Up Saw Liz is in French, but that’s why Stromae intentionally chose a nonsense English title/chorus for his song about how no one cares about the meaning of songs
@@TheeWorldsGreatestno he’s not a comedian, he’s just an Italian rock n roll singer. He released the gibberish song in the 70s. His name is Adriano Celentano and he’s 85 now.
The other reason for the multiple videos with different "singers" is that it was a bit of a trope for eurodance groups to have a singer that wasn't actually singing - they were a model.
I think the reason why this track, and Eurodance in general is because there's quite a lot going on in the backing track, you got the swooning ambient and the cybernetic arpeggiated synths, the bluesy/classical piano riffs that gives this sense of cheerful yet ruminating wistfulness, the electric drums keeping a mid-to-fast pace indicating a need for advancement, sometimes in this calypso-inspired rhythm giving a peaceful, yet futuristic feel. I think Eurodance was popular for the fact that it was a genre that represented the end to the Cold War, Europeans, the people in between US and USSR, had especially felt they would have decades of peace and technological progress; Eurodance was the sound of optimism.
Eurodance fell out of favor, in part because of 9/11 and the subsequent GWoT as well as the conflicts across Russia, and especially the financial crisis, I notice that by the late 2000s Europeans seem to have adopted Gangster Hip Hop, or rather it's derivatives in line with their cynicism that was shared by their American contemporaries. The instrumentation is streamlined in favor of lyrical content and vocals, like with Cloud Rap.
and then you get bladee 💀
i also think the reason why this track is this
@@RozKounelakion and that is the way of that, it is
Very well said. Totally agree
Life, it never die. Women are my favorite guy.
These are the kind of lines that can stop wars
It concerns me he didn’t catch on to the broken English bit until Kyle’s verse
He was out in the space.
@@micro-babewas he in the planet of BAAASSSSS
Apart from What Is Love, the song is also very reminiscent of Snap's "Rhythm Is A Dancer".
It’s so iconic and before now I had never realized how stupid "rhythm is a dancer" sounds 😂
@@virgilernml LOL That was like the first thing I thought when I first heard it... Then The Killers did the same and everyone was up in arms about it. :D
There's strong Real McCoy vibes too with the man doing the "rap" and "MC" style vocals. Check out "Runaway" and "Automatic Lover" for reference.
Yes, I was a teenager in the 90's :)
@admiraltee exactly what I thought! First time I heard this song it reminded me a lot of Real McCoy
To me is also similar to ace of base its a beautiful life
Kyle since he was a late 1992 kid, was basically 5 when his smash hit "Planet of the Bass" came out in 1997. What a genius!
When I hear young people try to explain Eurodance, I feel really old. However, they didn't really replace the main singers. It happened once or twice but most groups stayed consistent.
The female singers often stayed the same yet there would be different models just lip syncing in the videos. That's the point, none of the women in these vids are the the woman who performed on the track.
The full song and music video is out! You should react to it as well. All the tropes are there.
Just wait until you find out that Aqua dude's "intense hair sideburn thing" is a tattoo!!
Now THAT'S what I call m... commitment!
I watched Kyle Gordon only on TH-cam, where his shorts have like 300 views and a handful of comments. So I was under the impression that he was an unknown NYC comic just starting out. Now I see that on tiktok he has more than 3 millions followers. I'm glad as I thought it was a shame he had so little following, but I also feel... So dumb 😮
THE FULL SONG IS OUT NOW
Oh boy it did NOT disappoint
Shout out to Brooks Allison, comedian and superproducer extraordinaire who made the track!
8:22 "i don't think i can do both of those at once" *proceeds to do both of those at once*
8:29 HELL YEAH YOU LOVE TO SEE IT
E-Type done reverse on female singer trope. They had female dancer that done lip-sync and she was constant face of the band, yet the female vocals for two different songs from one album could be done by different singes
In 20 years' time, people won't know if it is a parody or a genuine tune from the times 😂
so excited for the full song lmao

when you breakdown the chords around the 2 minute mark I realized it very reminiscent of the chords of Ace Of Base - Beautiful Life from their second album in like 1995. Ace Of Base had Ulf the rapper dude with weird purple or teal or bleached hair doing those typical male spoken word nonsense lyrics behind the typical pristine girl singers in their case Linn and Jenny lol.
Yes, I just posted a similar thought before seeing yours--I'm pretty sure that the song (and the lyrics
I'm gonna take you to a place
I've never been before oh yeah
It's a beautiful life
I'm gonna take you in my arms and fly away
Aren't all that different if you just put them through another translator program...
I think it took a lot of inspiration from Another Night by the Real McCoy. First verse sounds similar and Kyle Gordon does the same deep voice. The group has also gone through like 6 female singers. It’s so good.
Deff felt Real McCoy vibes the first time I heard it. And because I loved them I'm now obsessed with this song lol
“That is actually the exact rhythm from…”
Me, in falsetto: “it’s the rhythm of the NA-IGHT! Aw yeah!”
It's literally the modern day Real McCoy "Another Night". You cannot deny the similarities of the tracks and the influences of Real McCoy and Ace of Base. 🤣🤣🤣
This was exactly what I was expecting and more. Took me back to my youth in such a funny way.
Her glasses are clearly an Anastacia reference
Yeah the DDR comment is so apt. It's the first thing I thought of when I heard this. "That sounds JUST like a DDR song!"
He mentioned that he wanted to represent early 2000's candy rave music. "Something you hear in malls".
The way you said "Yeah! Super cool! Keep it up!" reminded me of a fucking rhythm game lmao
Eurodance was my childhood and I'm living for this glorious return.
i still read this as "planet of the bees" LMAO
this is pretty _bassed_ ngl

The song in and of itself is a certified banger, but hey, the "VHS" video he uploaded to his YT channel is a gold cherry on top
Honestly, I didn’t have to watch this video to know this is the best song ever written and recorded, but it was a good video regardless!
You are an incredible teacher, or the way you explain things is just right down my alley.
Now I want the acoustic version of Planet of the Bass
I love nothing more than someone making a joke video involving a profession, and then professionals go into deep detail about what they're really doing in said joke video.
the broken english is my favorite thing ever
They're just showing off that they can kinda complete a sentence. I like the line "Clapping the hands".
Lol. The third video he does the under the bridge Cybergoth Dance in the background. 😂😂😂
we’re going to need a full reaction vid asap it’s a mergency
Thanks for the awesome breakdown, which as a pro composer I really appreciate. That First version Kyle video is just perfect in every way. It never gets old.
Wonderful musical analysis. "Danger and Dance" is my new aspiration.
This is a new classic. Period.
one thing that really interests me about the chord progression (and anything in minor that makes heavy use of the unmodified major VII chord) is how it blurs the lines between the minor and the relative major, where the unmodified VII is actually the dominant V, creating a sense of leaning heavily into a “major” feel that’s just stuck in a dominant tension loop of IV - V - deceptive vi. It’s extra emphasized in this case since it stays on the VII (V) for half the progression. it’s a very common effect in dance music in particular as it’s meant to teeter on the edge of resolution for pretty much the entire duration of the song.
also wow that clave notation was SO wrong lmao😂
His character is Aqua, Spider 1 from PM5K and Beat from Jet Set Radio combined.
Bro you teach music theory without lessons you just use terms people understand - then tell them the fancy word and now I got the vocabulary to explain what I do incredible
waiting for that full react!
This was brilliant, I especially like the explanation of the chord progressions. I am sure others here have pointed out, but I think it's much more based around Ace of Base's Beautiful Life than anything Aqua did in terms both of sound and its lyrics...
This is amazing content. I need more.
You got a sub just for the Kyle love, he is hilarious...great video too sir, very informative
Totally into this song 😁,even downloaded, cropped and put as my mobile ringtone
Great perspective. I hope you get a million views.
Great, gives me a good understanding of the construction of these catchy songs and frankly a lot of inspiration :-) Even though it´s a parody it is a great beat
EELECTRIC! EELECTRIC!
The experience of watching this video is elevated greatly by me literally having no idea what this man is saying 😂
Basically his explanations mostly make as much sense to my music illiterate brain as the Planet of the Bass lyrics!
This is NOT a criticism on this dude, its just me not knowing any music words 😂
Great vid!
love me some bass
Wow thank you I didn’t realize that was Kyle Gordon
Its genuinely just a really good catchy song!
Blonde #1 supremacy tbh
SuperRapping CowDJ: "everybody MOOOOOOOOOOO-vement!"
I immediately thought Fun Factory, when I heard this.
the euro definitely had vision
I would love to see you check out the full version of the song they just dropped
At 8:30 that sounded just like the beat from Just A Girl by No Doubt
Made me think of Run Away by Real McCoy for sure
Bruh. Nice breakdown.
Watch the full video please!!!
Do you have a full tutorial on how to make Eurodance?
6:50 sheet music is wrong, you're explaining a rhythm with downbeat on 4, but the sheet music has it on the "and" of 4
All I heard was Basshunter. Which makes it so much better

I also love the subte David Guetta BLM parody 😂
Love it
This parody song has literally no business being nearly as good as it actually is
So where the video on the full song
OMG that’s fantastic! Shall we connect?
The full song is absolutely amazing. The music video so fitting for the 80s/90s theme
Marvelous! Let’s stay in touch?
Are you the girl of the love?
Yes I am a girl!
World Peace.
Cool analysis although I believe it is a cross between an aqua and some eastern european eurodance artists.
So chill. Connect wit me?
I may be wrong but I think the 3rd woman is actually the real singer.
Unbelievable! Reach out to me.
"It's the same audio'" - yeah the blonde in the first video wasn't the original singer either.
The problem is the second video killed the entire vibe and energy by making it as boring as something I'd create in my back yard.
The third is hardly any better.
It’s intentional as well
Kyle said he had all 3 videos shot and edited before the first one was released, as he wanted to do the Eurodance trope of making a model lip-sync to the female vocals. The problem was that Audrey (the first one) absolutely knocked it out if the park, while the other two just made Instagram faces at the camera. So after seeing Audrey's performance, the other two were massive let-downs.
@@brookewestonctc He could've released them in different order, but I doubt it would've been a hit with the first two. It's not just the dancer, the whole production quality of the first video was top notch (choreography, cuts, scenery etc.), the rest was "beginner does his first music video".
Why are they portrayed as eastern europeans when in reality Euro Dance artists are mostly german central europeans
Mostly but not all, eurodance was a hit in all of Europe and every country had its artists
@@dole8409 let's be honest these guys most probably just wanted to portray a stereotypical european and didn’t really know the difference
Eurodance is hands down the cheesiest genre of all time, I remember it well, the whole interplay between the diva and the rapper combined the best elements of High NRG and hip house.
let go of your cheesy ego to enjoy music more in general
