Got a rapper looking for hip hop beats... so I'm making them... but first i had to check with you MG and I'm on the right path.... thank you for the why along with the how to...and the sometimes however... your the best! I check this out about 1 1/2 years ago.... Thanks
Break down the Cloud move that you did around 9:35 to access the effects that included something about the SP 1200 and MPC. Were those different quantization presets or something else? The way it felt into the pocket instantly is incredible! The composition then sounded and felt like the ducking technique was being used. You are absolutely right that the beat selection process that many rappers use does not inspire producers to actually get better in their level of music production. The dog chases its tail too much based upon what is receiving airplay that may be either months behind or have a very short lifespan slightly longer than a housefly lol 😂 Another great video and your compositions have gotten lighter and more addictive to hear now that you are not seeking to work with rappers. That’s why more people are reaching out to you to do collaborations lol 😂 Everyone wants what they cannot get and why our attention is always being desired by those who would waste our time 😲!
Those Quantize presets were made by a guy called "coffee grooves" from the original hardware, and converted to Studio one. It does well for timing, but doesn't compensate for Velocity - which is equally important. Melodyne lets you analyze velocity from drum breaks and timing - which can then be saved as midi and applied in any program with a groove pool willing to receive it. I have GRAND ideas about doing that - like a library of 100 - I just never get around to it. Or I start, and lose my presets when I switch machines or update...yikes But yeah I feel my self "dumbing down" - and I think thats always been the key, ironically
MG The Future That’s an amazing, virtually untapped world of presets! I’m sensing that the removal of stress of things not happening as fast as desired goes a long way to enriching all music. The entire music industry has suffered for adopting the mass production and calendar driven systems.
Slick with the quantize stuff plenty gems in this one. I'm gonna get me a few go to bass patches favorited and rock out. Thanks for this one. You givin away alot of tidbits that come with plenty experience for free 99. You good money for that. Respect
MG's beat sounds a lot like the Soul Searchers "Roachclip Break" (Paid in Full, Girl You Know it's true, Keep on Movin', etc) - minus a double kick on 8. Pure oldschool vibes. MG nails it again!
Ableton hip hop sub bass is my go to for bass lines. Drops are quick an easy as well. Surprised FL doesn't have a decent sub bass as standard. Dope beat!
You can you that warm verb as a send, eq it to make it as dark as you want, then blend it back in and let the master compression seal it. I think Rverb has a dark plate though.
MG The Future King 👑 also check out midi madness 3. This type of random notes 🎶 generation tools keep popping out to a point that music theory is in jeopardy lol 😂 always looking forward for your videos young god, thx for all the knowledge you share 👍👊🏽
MG The Future yes God. They are max for live only. U drag a midi pattern in and it give u variety of the patters. The thing is that out come become like a full melody progression. I found it amazing. Midi madness 3 is a vst for all daws. The fact that the vst allow you to insert another vst in it is dope. Cheers 🍻 king 👍
Use ableton boom bap is very easy right click and convert to drum pattern bom. but studio one is drag to quantize and if u use midi drag to midi channel.and result one notes. How to like ableton? is it possible
Dope video, wish u would have added scaler and ez keys on top the sample to show how u can take that loop to another level.. maybe another boom bap video in the future.. love the work flows .. keep dropping the gems
MG The Future I feel u, but it’s a whole other world after that boom bap foundation layer down, hence early Kanye adding Jon Bryant for strings and keys ect... on top of his sample chops ...
I've done that in the past - but from how it sounds - its not boom bap anymore.. I don't think Kanye has ever done boom bap in that sense. He is an electronic musician
Hey MG, truly grateful for all the gems shared on your channel. Made the switch from Reason 10 to StudioOne because of you and Craftmaster Productions. My workflow has improved tremendously. However, as you know Reason comes with the Groove Mixer that has all of the MPC presets preinstalled. This is the one thing that I feel I am missing from my Reason Workflow. Found CMP's video on using MPC Grooves in StudioOne and thought my problems were over, but was unable to install the presets he provided. I ran across this video in my search for StudioOne Groove Templates but Logic Caf is no longer available in the PreSonus Exchange. Any suggestions?
Sup bro. Im MG studio one vid diving at 3:58am and on this vid when you turned on the Fat Channel 16:41, i noticed that it was not on. Sad thing is when i turned it on in Studio One, its not on either. Sadly, you have to turn it to ON on the plugin to begin to hear the sound difference. No disrespect. Just what I noticed.
I noticed I can do it on my own compositions way better than sampled beats - thats the disconnect. And im one Melodyne study away from unlocking it - I just never do
MG The Future Word up.... Ight new drink, I know you gonna do a video on the new Ableton Live Probability Pack and how to adapt it to our genre of music.... I just seen it this morning. Gonna fuck with it tonight
You know what’s dope though that Addictive drums. When I bought ezkeys I got that free in a bundle and bought some boom bap midi packs just to see what’s good. It sounds dope with the percussion kit that came with addictive drums.
MG The Future I’ve heard of that as well. I would never think to buy it either because I usually like programming my own drums. Couldn’t turn down the bundle deal from plugin boutique though haha.
Recently found the channel, thank you! I’m working in StudioOne 3, and when I change the tempo, my AUDIO FILE (sample/loop/etc) DOES NOT MOVE. WHY?!?!??! If at 88 bpm, I cut a loop that is 5 bars, at 60/100/etc bpm, it is still 5 bars. Please help, I’ve tried looking for solutions and changed A TON of settings with no luck :( Please & THANK YOU
Hey MG! What's Good. I have learned some slick moves in Studio One today(Just Relax!). Gonna try to make a Boom Bap Beat-Thankyou ...p/s "just a touch of love" was by SLAVE.
First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to create tutorials and educate the world with the knowledge you have obtained. I also had a question about the studio one bounce selection , mix down selection , and transform midi to audio, every time i try to do any of them it only mutes te current midi track but does not create the audio track below it. Do you know if there is something i need to turn on to get t his to work or is it a routing issue. im using the mpc ren as my audio interface can that be the issue? that is a big function when using serato sample to be able to copy to audio and extract to chord track for the follow bass 808 patterns.
Thanks. I've never used a mpc sync'd with studio one however. Whenever I bounce a single external midi device track, S1 records the audio in real time just fine.
@@MGTheFuture I'm only using the mpc for the audio interface to generate sound and I don't have it synced. The bounce selection feature just doesn't work for some reason and I can't figure it out.... Thanks for your input and I will keep searching for answers. I'm gonna get some popcorn and watch some more of your videos. Thanks again!
Your best tutorial IMO, (maybe because I prefer to do it similar way in S1 now lol). S1 > other options for me i don't want to wait till Akai guys will catcg up their game with MPC Software to this DAW level.
Yeah I keep hearing the Akai needs to step up the bugs and updates for MPC live - which is one of the reasons I've been holding off on getting one. I hope they make changes too
MG The Future I don't see any benefits to use MPC anymore if you are ok to work on beats with computer to be honest. S1 is years ahead. No side-chain, way worde mixer options. I just bought audio interface and I'm really glad. I has something like 30 ma latency (21 output one) previously with Ren and a lot of problems like disodtion. Now it was plug &play on my Mac . "Money" :) Waiting for faderport v2 and Im ready.
Hey MG you know you don't have to drag the vst all the way over to the left column to open the vst. Just drag and drop it, right on the timeline immediately beside the browser.
No problem fam. You are doing a great job, keep it up man , I enjoy your videos. I am just glad to see a fellow Studio One user. Our community is growing.
Great video, as usual :) I have this crazy ''hack'' idea for creating different versions(variations?) of EZ Keys' midi presets using MidiMadness3 and it's 'regenerate' feature :D Unfortunately I don't own MM3 (yet) so I can't really test it. I can't help but feel like I'm onto something big :P Any thoughts on this? :)
On another note- I agree with the Dubstep comment. This is an issue that I’m interested in. It has to do with cultural appropriation showing up in the technology space.
Its an odd thing. From Serum to Massive to whatever new synth that comes out - Tons of Wub Wub Wobble Vocal Filter madness in the preset list. And literally NO ones doing that anymore - even the big EDM dudes like Zedd...kinda mellowed out.
Gotta perfect each element of a beat, one at a time with its tools. Drums are the most straight forward - id just do loops until you get it all squared
And just a touch of love is not Keith sweat its Little Stevie Arrington singing and his group slave... and this is me who expressed disdain for you wack Nas comment
youre a good teacher. pretty rare in these hiphop beat making videos
True
You are so right. Keep moving forward. Finish what you start. And see the value and wisdom in the journey itself.
