Hiked in from crane pond In 1982 and 1983 during the late summer. The swimming in that lake is absolutely wonderful. Swam to one of the small islands close to the shore, perhaps a quarter-mile or less. Forever in my mind.

Ended up finding Goose pond while looking for Crane, our cars couldn’t make it down the dirt road..We had to make about four trips from the trailhead up to goose, it became our place to fish and hang for a couple days, for the next few years

I have hiked Crane pond, Pharoah Mountain, Oxshoe pond, down the backside of Pharoah mountain to Pharoah lake. Cross country skied in a bunch... Love this area!

My favorite overnight hike! I go a few times a year. Alone and with friends. My wife says I always come home in a “zen state”

Exactly. Probably the main reason I did this trip was to recharge. Thanks for watching!

Nice video and great hike! My buddy and I camped out at lean-to #5 on the west side of Pharaoh Lake about 2-3 weeks after you shot this video. Brings back good memories.

Been to Pharaoh many times... Love this place! At night I've heard beavers, loons, owls screeching suddenly... scaring me half to death. One winter night an unknown animal nearby let out something like a scream. That was interesting! Great video!

    Hey Mike,
I live in Vermont and my past home here I was in the woods which took me awhile to get used to but I would sit out at night and get all bundled up for the cold night and challenge myself to sit there. When I first heard that screeching it would scare me silly but then I learned it was the way Barred Owls start out there calls. After that they usually go into the usual “Who cooks for you. Who cook for you all”. The more I would sit out there the better I got at sitting through that initial screech without freaking out. However in a tent alone in the Wilderness is a different story. I’m not sure I could that. I’d need a sedative perhaps! Haha. Beautiful video. Pharaoh Lake isn’t far from Vermont. Have you ever done any Vermont or The Berkshires in Western Mass videos? Those would be great. Safe travels. Linda

Listen to Ron Moorehead's "Sierra Sounds" the sound of a woman screaming is indeed a bigfoot. I've heard it myself, very creepy. Nice short hike, enjoy the places you take us. Be safe

The first sound I heard off camera sounded exactly like a girl on the other side of the lake screaming. Scared the crap out of me. Sounded much more bird-like after that

My dear friend, this is truly so soothing and relaxing to just sit down and provide such a soothing experience to enjoy. It is so grounding, and it really brings you to the present moment. I am absolutely amazed by this. Thank you so much for sharing this with us :) Means a lot.

I was at pharaoh lake last summer with a friend for a few overnights. Long story short we had to leave after one night the bugs were so bad. Although we did experience some eerie noises and sights of bright lights in the sky. I am from the area so I was used to the environment, but I hadn’t had too many encounters with these kinds of things.

    • @mikewanders
      @mikewanders  ปีที่แล้ว

That’s interesting. Bright lights would totally freak me out even more lol. I’ll camp alone most places, but I may think twice before camping alone there again. Felt creepy (unless that’s what I’m looking for)

Yes, that is characteristic of Beavers slapping their Tail. Also, Foxes will scream, and it sounds like the screams of a Female in terror.
    Incredible videography.
    Thanks for sharing.

Wow. See these are the answers I was looking for! First time I’ve heard the fox theory. The splashing nearby was creepy tho. Do you know if beavers are typically active at night?

Lol. Beaver and a squatch. You'll have that. Native Adirondacker. The squatches like to mess with your head. Ignore it unless it gets aggressive. Then leave.

foxes and cougars make very creepy sounds, screams and the sounds of women being murdered, but if you ever go down south, make sure you understand what an ocelot sounds like because you might hear one and if you're not prepared you'll think you're hearing a zombie, haha, there's ocelots and jaguar..even if DNR says otherwise, beaver will smack water but it's just a slap, I've witnessed it, I've had giant rocks or something land in the water next to me too, if a sasquatch warns you I'm sure you won't confuse it with anything, haha, there's also this stomping thing they do and even a weird hum, I haven't heard the hum but I think I've heard the stomping, and they'll pop their tongues really loud as well, very loudly
I also heard what sounded like people playing in the water while I was fishing in the dark..just standing in the water wade-fishing in total silence at 2am or whatever, I'd like to think I could tell pig or deer apart from bigfoot splashing around in the water but it sounded like a couple people.. I've literally had something jump out of a tree near me and take off running..bipedal steps impacting the ground, some wild stuff, I've never seen the creature but I saw some tiny baby feet tracks in damp sand before..very narrow foot prints and the length of baby feet positioned like it was walking, I couldn't imagine something so small walking..man I wish I'd have photographed it
