Thanks! They seem to like the colder water because I haven’t seen many lately, but now the leopard sharks are all over so it’s still a lovely time to swim in the water in La Jolla.

Thank you for posting this! i'm out in La Jolla for a week and went through this spot and towards the caves, but the water was a lot crazier and i could only be like 30 feet from the caves. would you say spring time is the best visibility? I'm advanced with swimming but new to snorkeling, so any advice on where/when to go would be appreciated. I've checked out a lot online, and saw here and mission point would be my best chances for visibility and seeing some cool marine life. i went 10/14 around noon and i saw some fish but visibility was max 10 ft. is it better to go earlier in the day to not have the waves kicking up sand as much, or is it not that different/luck of the day? Thank you!!

To be honest, it seems like it’s all luck. I’ve gone in October and it’s been warm and clear, but this year in October it’s cold and visibility is mostly poor. My suggestion would be if you are only here for a week but you have extra time, then go every day! Maybe you’ll get lucky and it will clear up one of the times you are in the water. Have fun!

We're you just off the shore or did you swim to the caves? About how far off the shore were you? My family is going soon and I wanted to know what we could see if we just snorkel off of the beach.

@@candice2968 sorry I didn’t notice your comment. I always enter the water at the cove and usually swim out and to the right toward the caves. You can see plenty if you stay in the cove proper.

@@gb0ng wow I’ve snorkeled here for years and never seen a puffer fish in La Jolla Cove! I’ve seen them snorkeling other places, so I’m less jealous than I would have been! Very cool for you!
