There was a study done that students who had learnt Esperanto prior became fluent in Spanish twice as fast as students who had not studied any language prior. Thats the main reason I'm learning Esperanto

Thank you so much, I have been trying to learn esperanto for nearly 3 years on and off with little success, and in the past week using your videos and Duolingo in combination for about 30 minutes a day (about 15 min of each) I can now have simple conversations with my husband! plus, added bonus, listening to the videos has caused my toddler to start picking up esperanto 😊

I am using Duolingo, but it has limited help when it comes to see or hearing how sounds are made, and exactly how grammer works, which sucks with sounds that are not even in English to begin with. I myself have invented a language called Reformed English to shape English to be a language of common sense (which I think you should watch btw). When I discovered this language just the other day, I was laughing with joy on how simple the language is and how many common principles there are to Reformed English. Esperanto has already achieved the goal I have set forth for Reformed English: it is spoken on a truly international scale, even though the communities which speak it are small. Praise to Reformed English, praise to Esperanto, and praise to you for making these tutorials of Esperanto just as I have for my language!
I will say, though, that I can find some faults in Esperanto, particularly with how Esperanto keeps the notion of "he", "she", and continents whereas Reformed English got rid of them. Esperanto also does not distinguish you (singular) and you (plural), even though it has distinguished between number for the 1st and 3rd person. Reformed English, though, has a word for 2nd person plural- which sounds like "yall" in English. "You" is still kept in the singular case. Therefore I conclude that Reformed English is a little bit better.
English does have a logic behind it, but they just don't really teach it in schools. A lot of people have a hard time with English because it is a phonetically based language. I would recommend "Uncovering the logic of English" by Denise Eide

I just wanted to know for the plural explanation of grandaj hundo kaj kato why is it not grandaj hundoj kaj katoj ? I thought the numbers had to match. How like you put "j" for rapidaj autoj. Is it because there are two nouns in the sentence and by making the adjective plural you don't need to emphasize each one?
+LovelyOne This is not a dumb question by any means. "Grandaj hundo kaj kato" and "Grandaj hundoj kaj katoj" are both grammatically correct, but they mean different things. The first one means "A big dog and a big cat" and the second one means "Big dogs and big cats". If you wanted to, you could also say "Granda hundo kaj granda kato" or "Grandaj hundoj kaj grandaj katoj". The -j ending is only attached to an adjective if the adjective is describing multiple things. So even if dog and cat are singular on their own, if an adjective is describing one dog and one cat, it must have the -j ending because it is describing multiple things. Yes. Often times I stop and think in math terms if "big" dog and cat means big(dog, cat). Where you would distribute "big" to each element inside the parentheses.

Loving the lessons! There is just one thing I am not quite understanding right now. I hope this isn't a dumb question but I am confused with the way the plural words are pronunciated, mostly because the sound a word in plural from your examples tends to make doesn't exactly sound like the letter J to me. Maybe it's just me but I am confused. In words, the plural sounds more like an e sound to me.

Himeros Great question! Esperanto doesn't use the letter "w" so names that begin with "w" transcribed into Esperanto use "v" instead. So George Washington would be "Georgo Vaŝingtono". And it's pronounced "ge-OR-go va-sheeng-TO-no" and try to pronounce "n" and "g" separately in the "ing" part. All consonants and vowels must be pronounced with full value in Esperanto. There are no strange consonant combinations to remember. If you haven't already, be sure to watch lesson 1 where I explain the alphabet and pronunciation. If you're still confused, you can always copy and paste "georgo vaŝingtono" into the Esperanto Google Translate and it will pronounce it for you.
I work by a place called artomondo, meaning world art , they said its Esperanto. they recentley changed it to "kunstwerkt" , I more liked the name artomondo, I still call it artomondo, cause it rolls easier from the tongue.

However, En/Ett in Swedish means "One" as well in English. Complicated, right? Esperanto is a cool language. So how do I differentiate which adjective belongs to which noun? I know the vocabulary used in my example doesn't make a lot of sense but let's say we have a sentence in which those words are used in this specific order for example: pomo dolca kato granda Basically I can't differentiate which adjective belongs to which noun. It could mean: apple (without an adjective) and a sweet, big cat or sweet apple, big cat. It seems irrelevant in this case, but couldn't this lead to problems of understanding when used in longer sentences?
Just like in English, you would use commas to separate multiple ideas. For example, "Mi havas grandan hundon, katon malgrandan, kaj du pomojn." (it's a silly example, but hopefully you understand what I mean). The word order for nouns and the adjectives describing them is flexible, but adjectives should usually be near the nouns they modify to avoid confusion.
A noun is always a noun... but it not always the subject of a sentence... (I relate to the example "ham sandwich " in the video). Great video though, dankon!

The best approximation for "j" in Esperanto is the letter "y" in English. "J" is a consonant and "I" is a vowel. Does that help?

Is it weird that I want to become fluent in Esperanto and then only talk in Esperanto to my friends and see how long it takes them to realize I'm not talking in gibberish?

I am learning Spanish and this is similar to Spanish (but way easier) to me.
I'm a little confused. So am I correct in thinking every vowel counts as a syllable in order to find stress? I thought it was every syllable therefore second to last syllable, but I heard folIo I would've though it was fOlio. Because I assumed diphthongs counted as one syllable. "io" is not a diphthong in Esperanto. Only "j" and "ŭ" can be used to make diphthongs. io is two syllables and jo is one syllable.

Actually the word "ham" in "ham sandwich" is a noun adjunct, i.e. a noun. It'd be interesting to know how those work in Esperanto
If the adjective can be in front and back of a noun, then what would "Hundo grandaj kaj kato" mean?

For the plural adjectives example of "grandaj hundo kaj kato" why did hundo and kato not have "j"? Is it because they're connected by kaj?
I'm pretty sure that it would then become, The big dogs and big cats.

We can kinda sorta tell if something's an adjective in English. Salty ends in a -y, but so does funny and silly. And then there's -ish, etc
You're absolutely correct. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to all adjectives like it does in Esperanto.
So how do I differentiate which adjective belongs to which noun?
I know the vocabulary used in my example doesn't make a lot of sense but let's say we have a sentence in which those words are used in this specific order
for example:
pomo dolca kato granda
Basically I can't differentiate which adjective belongs to which noun.
It could mean: apple (without an adjective) and a sweet, big cat
or sweet apple, big cat.
It seems irrelevant in this case, but couldn't this lead to problems of understanding when used in longer sentences?
Just like in English, you would use commas to separate multiple ideas. For example, "Mi havas grandan hundon, katon malgrandan, kaj du pomojn." (it's a silly example, but hopefully you understand what I mean). The word order for nouns and the adjectives describing them is flexible, but adjectives should usually be near the nouns they modify to avoid confusion.

guys, I just learned that the proper translation for canada in esperanto is “Kanada”, making Canada an adjective
