Yes! I overlooked YNAB years ago, and chose Mint. I would have preferred YNAB. Now using it and I love it. And thanks to Nick's videos, I'm slowly becoming an expert. I love watching your videos, please do an update for 2024!❤ Getting my girlfriend, also a former Mint user, to use YNAB and to watch your videos.

I started using YNAB in Oct 21 and being a type A personality tried to account for EVERYTHING so that I became overwhelmed and once the extra spending of Xmas began I just gave it all up and stopped tracking completely. Now come Feb 22, I have plucked up the courage to start again and with a new budget and watching your videos and following your check lists I feel back in control that I can do this. Hearing you say -'keep it simple till you get more familiar with the software' has stopped me overthinking and feeling like it's all too hard. Thanks Nick, your videos are so clear and cover many of my questions.😊

Nick, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I am a financial coach who has consistently channeled my clients toward a different budgeting tool. Last week one of my new clients insisted on using YNAB. Ugh! I have looked at YNAB for days trying to figure it out and got nothing but stress over it all because I found it cumbersome and not at all easy to understand. I found your video today and you make YNAB clear and understandable for me. Thank you! I feel like I can at least have a semi-knowledgable conversation with my client this week because of this video. Definitely will be checking out your other YNAB videos.

Wow, I just started YNAB yesterday afternoon and it's quite a massive, complex program (to me, anyway). However, I figure if I put the time and effort in to master it, I should reap the benefits. So glad there is an abundance of helpful information available. Every time I rewatch a video, I discover a new tidbit. Thanks to all the presenters for their efforts to lead us newbies through the underbrush so we can eventually breathe the fresh air above of financial self control.

You’ve been the mentor to many old-YNAB’er; me included 🙋🏻‍♀️ (but I starred watching you for travel stuff 3 years prior to diving into YNAB; I actually used another Australian budgeting application tool at that time). So glad you planted that seed for me so that, when I had outgrown my budgeting app in March 2020 (just prior to early retiring) I remembered your old YNAB recommendations and demos. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Ps - I like the simple approach to the inactive category in this updated start guide. One click for hiding and unhinding when viewing reports; no need for them to hold their prior category heading. Solid simplification. 👍🏼 I’ll be stealing that one 😉

Great video! Thank you for taking the time to put it together. Even as an experienced YNABer I was sitting here with my budget open implementing some of your tips. I loved your explanation of how YNAB handles credit card transactions, very well presented.
One reason I prefer to keep a savings account is to maintain a level of fraud protection. The majority of our annual insurance premiums (home, car, & life) occur in December/January right along with spending for Christmas and school tuition for the spring semester. Having these funds build up in checking bares some level of risk (albeit fairly low), so I've opted to keep excess funds in a separate savings account.
    Keep up the great work!

I’ve been looking for a “good” budgeting system for years. I tried Every Dollar, hated it, was turned to Mint, absolutely hate it lol. When I stared with Mint years ago I didn’t have the money to pay for a budgeting app, plus it didn’t make sense “to me” to pay for something unnecessary when trying to save money lol. But now I’m thinking of this as an investment 🤔 I can stupidly be paycheck to paycheck but I don’t want that anymore. I want to know exactly where I’m at at all times. Once I saw the YNAB community I was sold on this app. This is the first video I came across, I’ll use this to set up everything lol. I’m thinking I’ll wait a bit longer and check some other videos before I actually start my trial. Thank you so much for creating these videos 🥳

Do you think you could share your detailed line items for the Value Budget (One Month Ahead, Joy, Family & Relationships, etc.)? I'm trying to get a better idea of what to put in those.

Thanks so much for this video! I just opened a YNAB account and this has been super helpful. One thing I got stuck on immediately though is the setting targets. I was sold on the concept of being able to choose "Needed for spending" or a Monthly Savings Builder.. I thought that was the bomb, but I don't seem to have that option in my account? Has this feature been removed?

I have tried and tried and tried to figure out YNAB. I have no idea where i'm going wrong, but it makes absolutely no sense to me.

Excellent video. Without this I probably wouldn't try YNAB. Now I am setup.
Question 1: On day-1 (which is currently the 7th of the month), half of my bills are already paid so I don't need to allocate unspent cash to them, but they have been funded and paid. how do I represent that?
Question 2: YNAB won't connect to my checking account at Fidelity Investments (cash management). This means I'll have to manually import. What's more, the CSV format doesn't match so I need to use a translate tool. This is a lot of work to use a paid service. What is the way to ask YNAB to look into connecting to Fidelity Investments? If I can't resolve this I may have to move to Monarch which seems to connect to everything...

Extremely helpful! Mvelopes is dead so I had to switch and EveryDollar won't sync with Amex (annoying and I'm unwilling to get rid of my Skymiles card) so I ended up with YNAB. This and your previous videos really helped me out! So far...I like YNAB and the philosophy behind it.

How do we add bills that are due quarterly? I'd like to put a little back each paycheck so I don't have all of the expenses at once. My water and sewer bills are quarterly.

Total the 4 payments and divide by 12 to get a monthly number. If paid bi-weekly, divide by 26 for the dollar amount to put away each pay. Divide by 24 if paid semi-monthly.

      @mappedoutmoney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Exactly what Kit said. I use a "monthly savings builder" target for these with the annual expenses divded by 12 to get a monthly amount. This is exactly what I do for my pest control for example that's quarterly.

Once you’re done with the month, how do you clear out the credit card funds?
Edit: my confusion lies with how you made the transaction of groceries to Sam’s MC. You set an outflow of 100, but this outflow sets a negative value on both end spending category and the credit card. This is hard for me to wrap my head around. In addition, for when you actually pay the credit card, do you see an inflow transaction from the checking account?

Hello, there is new changes in YNAB, are you going to create a video about it?

  • @PeppyrPotts

Great video! I've been subscribed to YNAB for 6 months but couldn't figure out how to use it. Your video helped A LOT! Two questions: I literally just got started with your video. (1) Why are some of my "available" amounts overfunded? (2) Why does the amount in my savings account not show up as assignable? The balance is cleared and I sure would like to assign that amount to my "savings account" category and watch it grow. Thx

I'm new to YNAB but have been doing a budget for years with EveryDollar. I have now copied my budget in YNAB and really like it but need to know how to track my income. Can I set up Income categories or Inflow categories? I only see "Inflow: Ready to Assign". I have different sources of income (rent, business, jobs, etc.) and want to be able to track what has come in and is still expected. Thank you in advance for your help.
