When location changes while you're reading the comment section and you don't notice it, that's when you know the tech crew (backliners and sound guys) is doing an amazing job ! And Ilan's drumming is amazing, what a beast !
Ilan did such an amazing job on that record. Paramore are crazy for not asking him to join the band. Although I'm pretty sure he's happier to pursue his own and other projects.
Awww I was greeting excited thinking yes one I was at is gonna be shown Melbourne 1st March 2013 yet skipped to bloody Adelaide DAM IT awesome video!!!
"That's not how it works"? The fact that Rubin is back in NiN shows that it's exactly how it works. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if he did more with Paramore. Josh is a great drummer, but saying he's the "best" is a bit exaggerated. I've seen them both and, personally, I don't think Freese has anything on Ilan technically, plus Ilan has got the power and stage presence that few drummers do today. That's my very personal opinion.
He's the best in the rock session Industry. He IS the most called upon rock drummer there is and his groove is perfectly impeccable, something even Rubin doesnt quite have (i'm talking actual perfection), even though he (Rubin) is solid as fuck!.I'm not even saying i can play that well myself, but you can hear the difference in their sound. It's why he's at the top. Ilan is still the man is getting huge ups because of his amazing style and flare hence why Reznor wanted him. I love them both.
don't know if i'd go THAT far but he is obviously one of the best in his context and style. There is not one better then Josh Freese in this rock session world though. Deffs check him out man he's the king. He formally was with Paramore and NIN just as Ilan is with them now.
Saw him with NIN at lolla only reason i saw the too cuz i'm not their biggest fan lol but Ilan is my #1 idol as far as chops and creativity with zac farro my biggest inspiration. I'm seeing paramore next month wish he could be there he stomps on all the guys theyve hired lately...
Josh left APC and is a touring member of Weezer (Not full time). As for Devo, maybe. But you're right, Rubin is a musical prodigy and Josh has worked his ass off for many years.
and kids, lay of the 'Josh Vrs Ilan' nonsense. Josh is one of the most recorded drummers of modern times. That doesn't happen by accident. He can turn up, hear a song once and lay down a perfect take first time. Do not even dare dis him. Ilan is a super drummer, but he's the new kid, so everyone likes him and sings his praises. I personally think Josh doesn't get the kudos he deserves. He's an awesome player, a phenomenon really.
SiikP90 There's a 'discussion' going on here about Josh Freese and Ilan, about who is 'better'. Josh used play with NIN, now Ilan is, hence the discussion among viewers of the vid.
Josh is a killer player. One of the best players, and best session players around. A killer drummer with amazing energy, and just absolute rock solid technique for days. As a fan of Ilan, I'd suggest that it is a testament to Ilans ability that in his mid twenties he is being compared to the likes of Josh Freese.
Dennis Potter and I have better news,Ilan played with NIN twice. Ilan used to play with NIN before Josh Freese. Then Josh joined NIN and now Ilan returned :) but about your comment, totally agree,I love both of them.
chanyoungchik I think it's safe to assume that yes they do. Almost any professional act is using clicks, samples and backing tracks to fill out the songs or to get them as close to the album sounds as possible.
Depends on how complex the music is. If it's a simple guitar, bass, drums and vocals they might not use a click, but if you have samples and a bunch of other instruments involved throughout the song then they'd probably use a click.
Ricardo Cojones they'll always use click no matter what, it's what keeps them in time they might not always add sequence to go along with it but yes always click
haha thats not how it works buddy. Like someone said below they don't stay long with bands that big. Josh IS the king in that industry. There is a reason why he is known as the best. I'm not just saying that it's my opinion its an actual fact haha. It's just that Ilan is getting huge recognition now. Which is cool. So yes they can go that far but i'm just saying thats what's going down weather people like one person better or not.

And Ilan's drumming is amazing, what a beast !
I would of loved to see Ilan with Paramore, he is phenomenal, with out a doubt one the best musicians of this generation.
He knows so many instruments too. I know Zero and he can play a dozen fluently. He's one of the best for sure
@@dickfitswell3437 Dude picks up instruments like a sponge like when he started taking cello lessons for a couple of NIN songs.
The drum part Ilan wrote for this song makes so much sense now knowing his 2nd favorite drummer is Stewart Copeland.
yep realized it after i heard 1:34
yesss tottaly Steward vibes in those hihats notes
Don't get me wrong, I think Aaron's a great drummer, but man, I miss Ilan drumming for Paramore.
iLan brought a life and vibe to that album that is unmatched imo
@@erickirkland7876 as a drummer... these songs sound simple to play but they are incredibly coordinated and the syncopation you need is next level.
Undoubtedly one of the best drummers ever
this will forever be one of my favourite live videos
It’s 2018 and I’m still watching this video!

i cant count how many times a watched this video.
Ilan know how to write and play very nice drum parts. Massive player.
Ilan did such an amazing job on that record. Paramore are crazy for not asking him to join the band. Although I'm pretty sure he's happier to pursue his own and other projects.
17 people don´t play the drums...Ilan is a legend
Aaron is my favorite drummer but Ilam is really AMAZING!!!

Freakin solid drummer!!
Check out if you like my transcription of Ilan's drum part of Paramore's Now!
Ilan rubin is a drum god!!!
Just to clarify, Ilan's partner in Q Drum Co. is the same person that built most of Ilan's OCDP kits. That's where they met.
hayley sounds so good here and I do agree ilan is the best fit for paramore....what he did for the self titled album cannot be replicated
THAT

That is what a drummer looks like. DAMN
Ilan is a fucking beast on any instrument. Damn.

I’ve got the brass snare but the wires are rattling to much any advice would be great
Is that a D6 mic on is rack tom? I've used them on floors toms but never on a rack tom. Interesting.

The man, the myth, the HAIR.
what a machine!!
Ilan da man
oh my paramore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
his simplicity and technicality is mind numbing.

Do they play to a click during this type of music??

na he's with us on the dark side with NIN now... ;)
Where is Thailand ?
You should go that far. If they thought Freese was better, don't you think Paramore and NiN would've asked him back?
haha thats not how it works buddy. Like someone said below they don't stay long with bands that big. Josh IS the king in that industry. There is a reason why he is known as the best.
