  • this is part 3 of the video series. the 1988 6hp outboard has been through diagnose and repair. testing without hydrofoil and now with one. there are things to be learnt from this so make sure you stay till the end to get the most out of it.

    My Suzuki 6hp 4smoke cut down sharpend prop 15.1 knots 3.3m sib 7.5 pitch 5850rpm
    But normally run a 2.5hp modified to fit 5.5pitch for 11 knots wife with daughter.

    Great video man! I was just about to buy a hydrofoil for my 6hp 4stroke Mercury... won't bother now
    Cheers ears 👂👍🏽

    Had yamaha 20hp from ‘94 bolted to a With300. worked perfectly for short trip fishing. Very similar sound and had same color scheme as yours. Sold it when I moved to Denmark.

    Try raising your motor a bit. That spray is usually caused by the motor being too low with the leg of the motor above the cavitation plate kicking up lots of water . Also have you tried a lower pitch prop to get the boat on plane with a heavier load ?

    • @dsholden1
      @dsholden1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Andrew, I can try, but by raise you mean tilt up right?
      Haven't tried props either, I think that you have right about that when it comes to a heavy load such as 2 adults.

      @@dsholden1 No not the tilt. I mean raise the motor so that the cavitation plate on the motor is just slightly below the bottom of the boat. I have a 3.2m inflatable with a Suzuki 6hp on the back of it and it sits about 30mm too low. I have made a plan to raise mine and it made a world of difference.Most inflatable transoms are too short even for a short shaft motor.

    Hi - nice video, I'm also debating if I should get a hydrofoil for my 1999 Yamaha 6hp and 2021 Tohatsu 6hp, both 4-stroke outboard motors. Your video helps a lot and now maybe I should hold on in getting a hydrofoil. Probably the hydrofoil can help a lot in 9hp or more.

      @dsholden1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, yes I was a little surprised by the results and have now removed it from the motor. But these were somewhat unscientific trials.. But not totally off either 👍 glad it helped you 😊

    The hydrofoil is upside down, it won’t lift the boat how you have fitted it

    If you lift up your motor on the transom 1 inch it will stop the spray

    I have a 03 3.8m savage deep v tinny with a 03 yamaha 15hp 2 stroke i was lookimg st grtting a se200 will this be good for my boat? I get 20mph and gets on plane well doesnt porpoise was just looking for a bit more top end

    • @dsholden1
      @dsholden1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      assuming se200 is a hydrofoil, i think as the video concluded for me that for light engines they dont do as much and in this case it reduced top end speed. we did it to a friends boat too a With 17ft that has a mercury 60hp, and there too he lost a little top end, but the boat planed easier and at a lower throttle setting. my advice is try, you can always remove it if you dont like it, Daniel

  • @lyleswan4106
    @lyleswan4106 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the engine trimmed correctly? Im sure you have but might be the backwash?

    • @dsholden1
      @dsholden1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say that I haven't tried, from full down to three notches up. Anything more and it's all wonky anyway.. I got a hint to lift the whole motor.. That remains to try. Or it just has back spray. Fun anyway 😊

    Isn't hydrofoil is more for cavitation issues?

    • @dsholden1
      @dsholden1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely sure, but for sure to assist in holding engine up and easier planing?
