Just like everyone else in Parliament, those elected officials swear their oath of allegiance to the Queen of England. So they can only represent her interests, not the interests of "Aboriginal" people.

So does that mean we need a voice for every nationality in Australia? In primary school we were taught unless you have the answer to what, when, why, where, who and how, further investigation is required. Until these questions are answered, the answer to the referendum is no.

    • @savagegfry
      @savagegfry ปีที่แล้ว +6

Exactly!!! Imagine how hard any decision-making would be if each of the 278 ethnic groups in Australia, had a legal right to tell politicians what to do!!! Each, would have a group, elected by only them, and the number based on how many of them there are.
All the "Voice" actually does, is start paying a group of people in parallel parliament, of indig only people, from local communities, right through to federal parliamentarians, "advisors". Can you imagine, the local tribal councillors get paid, the regional body gets paid, the state body gets paid and the federal body gets paid. All of a sudden you have several hundred, if not a few thousand people, on the public payroll.

According to Shireen Morris, Native Title, Closing the Gap, Indigenous Heritage Protection, though well meaning, have been "comprehensive failures", how about fixing the 'comprehensive failures' that have been failing for decades, before adding what is simply a band aid like the 'Voice to Parliament' ?
'Australians' haven't failed the Indigenous people of Australia, the people that 'Australians' have paid billions, via their taxation, to, have failed the Indigenous people of Australia, through decades of mismanagement, corruption and ineptitude.
Linda Birney, the current Minister for Indigenous Affairs, according to her bio has been involved in this issue in State and Federal levels for 20 YEARS, yet the situation is, apparently, still a mess, when are the Individuals who have been chosen to oversee this debacle going to be held accountable?
Why would any Australian citizen have any confidence that a new avenue of communication, like the 'Voice' be any different from the previous failures, when it is going to be managed by the same people that have track record of utter failure?

I think this is potentially one of the most divisive and destructive suggestions ever made for our country. One voice for one group of Australians and one voice for another group of Australians.
It introduces an apartheid system in our country where there is one set of rules for one, and another set of rules for another.
One where we now see three flags...not one... that represents us all as a country.
    And for what purpose?
It doesn't bring us together. It divides us even more.
In Malaysia there is favoured treatment for the Malay people at the expense of the Malaysian born Chinese and Indian races.
It has bred a generation of lazy Malays, who believe they are the privileged ones. It's like living in a them, and us, country, which is how I believe it will end up in Australia if this referendum gets up.
We are talking about creating separate conditions for a very small percentage of our population.
Why not one country, with one Government, representing one cohesive Australia.

    • @rodhowellnetwork28
      @rodhowellnetwork28 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Why can't our aboriginal people ( the same as all Australians) simply talk to their elected politicians when they want their voice to be heard. They, like all Australians already have a voice.
There is a lot of talk about remote communities being marginalised.
Where are the suggestions about how to solve this from the aboriginal people themselves. How will a Voice change this?
      The opportunity is there now.

Aboriginals currently have as much right as I do to make decisions about our lives. By formalising a process where one race has more input into national policy formalises racism.
It forever locks Aboriginals into always arguing for a special deal. They as a group need to change the mindset from compensation for the past to embracing the world as it is now. I say NO to locking everyone into a never ending discussion of the past and look to the future.

    • @sockpastarock7082
      @sockpastarock7082 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Calling this racist is like looking at two people about to race in a 100m sprint. The Aboriginal racer is placed 50m back (a total of 150m sprint) as analogous to racial discrimination of his ancestors leaving him with no intergenerational wealth setting them back socioeconomically. Then saying it would be racist to allow the Aboriginal racer to move forward 50m because that would be separating the two by their race.
We currently do not provide equal opportunity for Aboriginal people in this country. Trying to take action to resolve that inequality is literally the opposite of racist.

    Invaluable all round, Chris.
One unanswered question for Dean Parkin: If the Voice committees/advisory groups are to be elected by Indigenous people only, how will their indigeneity be determined?
Will they self-identify? Will formal family ancestory certificates be required? When indigenous ancestry is disputed will a race administrative tribunal decision be required?
And would non-indigenous people be eligible to be tribunal members?
This is an Orwellian nightmare compared to our existing parliamentary democracy.

Millions of everyday Australians never get consulted or asked 'directly; about their opinions or the effects of policy on them individually and their families (at least no more or no less). Indigenous Australians and the challenges they face are very well known, Australia has been on a long journey of reconciliation and we have come a long way. Vote. keep informed and up to date on issues. write letters to parliamentarians. engage in social discourse. The best voice is your own voice and its each individual responsibility to sharpen their voice. Getting young indigenous students to school every day will provide them a voice. Improving the quality of education in remote communities will help to raise indigenous voices. Invest in infrastructure in remote in rural communities. What about children? What about immigrants? What about those people on welfare? Do they all get a separate voice to parliament? Or are they subject to to the whims of parliament.

1:54 This sums up everything that is wrong with this. "In the past". We will always be in the past seeking some form of revenge for past mistakes. This will never end, and will be a perpetual cycle of grievance and punishment for each future generation.
7:08 It's powers will be advisory Only. We already have "Advisory" groups, so why the need for a referendum and constitutional amendment. I'm voting no just on the alarm bells ringing from that alone.
7:28 All children in this country already start with an equatable chance at life.
13:20 "Something needs to change". Yup I will say what no one want's to say and take a ban for the team. A portion of indigenous Australians have to stop playing the victim card and "Poor me" card and realize that are just as capable and have just as many opportunities for a good life as anyone else. They just have get up an make life happen.
13:30 Lets be honest, The whole point of all of these advisory groups is to take consultation from the indigenous peoples. I only get my local member for consolation, yet indigenous get an extra level of voice as well as local members.
14:16 "... It's always been informal ...", So is the change for a "Formal Voice, or as an "Advisory Voice"? See 7:08 " It's powers will be advisory Only."
22:20 Bad behavior has nothing to do with race. It's just bad behavior and the simple solution is don't participate in bad behavior, simple.
27:59 Same as above, bad behavior is bad behavior. They need to take a long hard look in the mirror and say the person "I" see in the mirror is a rubbish person and tomorrow "I" am going to make an effort to stop being a rubbish person.
32:53 This is all starting to sound like another virtue signaling exercise. Constitutionally recognized virtue signaling.
    >
This is not necessary, divisive, serves no practical purpose that is apparent. It comes across as virtue signally with a hidden future agenda and I will vote NO.

That is the rare and wonderful thing about Australia.

So if child A is born to a poor household and child B is born to a rich household, is it individually child A's fault and responsibility to equalise that discrepancy? How is that fair? It's through no cause or fault of either child that they are in either position but your solution is to just tell them it's their problem to deal with individually and that it's fair. You're wrong.
If we want to provide equality of opportunity to each of these children we necessarily must redistribute resources from child B to child A. Currently, Aboriginal children are overwhelmingly represented by the circumstance of child A. It's a socioeconomic issue that is drawn upon racial lines due to the historical racial abuse which caused it in the first place. Telling people to stop obsessing about race is silly because this issue was caused by racism and we can't ignore that. Giving those affected communities some greater access to determination of distributions of resources absolutely helps to take us a step closer to equality of opportunity.

It's not a voice to Parliament that's required, it's a process to fix what we already know is broken. If this were a business to build it's strength, they would ensure the process that was authorised by the executive level or (aka The Government,) is being followed and reported on to show the successes and failures of its goals. For every Tom, Dick and Harry to have a "Voice" is ludicrous to think it will matter. It's about the people who are most qualified to represent "Aboriginal" communities....qualifications which must include a lived experience of what its like to actually be apart of those communities, and the ability to speak their language/s. They must also have the trust of the people, and most importantly their full support to help bring the changes they seek.
That being said, can you name one single politician who ticks even just one those boxes ? Or any white person ?
Congratulations on getting Jacinta Price "elected", but being apart of the CLP she has no power in Parliament, and absolutely no support from "Aboriginal" communities within her electorate. Not only that, but she has never lived in an "Aboriginal" community, and doesn't speak any language apart from English. So what on earth makes you think she's qualified to represent anyone apart from the white Conservatives who elected her ? Those communities are calling for a representative democracy, not the same old communist dictatorship which they've had to endure for the past decades.

There are 278 ethnic groups in Australia. If one group, of just 3% of the population, must have a legally binding say in all legislation, and even be able to change our constitution, then all 278 ethnic groups must be represented, with their own "Voice to Parliament" group of people, individually elected by only the members of those ethnic groups. Shireen makes only one great point! Native Title, or Land Rights, has been an absolute disaster for indig people. They have been given "land rights" but they have to do exactly what they're told, and that is to stay on social welfare, not create their own enterprise. They should have freehold ownership, and even more, sovereignty of those tribal lands, where they have had continuous living connection with their lands, with the exception of not being able to exclude other Australians, from free passage and trade.
The state wants to keep these communities on welfare! Their greatest strategy for keeping power is to say to them, "If you vote for the other mob, they will take your benefits". I know this for a fact, a certain, very powerful trade union, goes up the cape every election, spreading this propaganda. I've even heard they pay people to vote for Labor, and fill out their ballot papers for them, which goes directly to what Jacinta was saying. So, our political elite keep people in poverty, for the purpose of control, and the agenda is for widespread poverty, for that totalitarian control, which is the NET ZERO agenda.
The wild rivers act, mentioned by Shireen, is one which did that and dispossessed communities from purposeful enterprise. It has stopped things like sustainable forestry, it actually shit down a sustainable timber industry and put the community on welfare. Another is the reef protection act, where any new activity in the catchment areas, is prevented, like farming enterprises by indig communities.
The "Voice" will be no different, it will be a massive fraud on all Australians, with ZERO benefit to people in indig communities. The "voice" wont change what the native title scam has done to communities.

However anything promoted by any current ( wef controlled) western government is always the opposite of what it is purported to be. How could anyone trust a western government ever again ! This is and will always be about power and money for a select few with little or no help for aboriginals that need help! Without details I will be voting NO!

Jacinta Price and Andrew Bolt destroyed their opposition in this debate. I feel the penny dropped for Kenny tonight.

I would love to adopt an aboriginal baby and give it a healthy, safe and loving household and give he/she all the opportunities possible they deserve that kind of a life! Unfortunately the government won't allow that!

Dr Shireen Morris' voice was making my huskies howl haha as soon as I paused the video they stop, but- hit play and back they go again. Only when she speaks!! I even tried it with other interviews with her, yep, her voice is making my three huskies go crazy!!
Someone should record her voice and play it at rioters through loud speakers, I bet they all poop their pants, stop what they're doing and go home!!

The Voice sounds like a gameshow rather than a serious parliamentary commitee

Despising Murdoch as I do, I can't believe I've found the most ballanced debate on Voice here on Sky! Well chosen speakers and well moderated. Thank you.

Simplicity of it? There is nothing remotely simple about “The Voice”…
There is no clarity of purpose or vision… it’s a quagmire of obfuscation and confusion.

1 minute in and C Kenny omitted he also published 2x books on pro Voice themes. Or different rules for racially different people. One system, one set of rules for all and do your best.
I think there is an New saying in Hollywood is “one people, one world”
I think there is also a great example across the ditch in NZ, measure not by ideology but by the results of the ideology or policy, BUT, as Justice Ruth Ginsberg in the US said.
‘Any policy measure or law enacted to solve a problem that does not have a clear aim and endpoint to what it wants to achieve is flawed”.
