Understanding the geo-politics of Singapore and Malaysia, most "Malaysian dishes" pre-dates the formation of Malaysia as a country. 1. Most Laksa stalls in Singapore don't normally give prawns. Cockles are more common. While having the sambal chili helps to enhance the flavour, it is possible to request for 'no chili' for laksa if you find it too spicy. 2. Mud Crabs are the most common crabs seen for sale in Singapore. In second place, it will be the Flower Crab.
Laksa is one of my favorite dishes, but sadly you cant get it in Switzerland :-(. So I am just enjoying it in my mind whilst watching Jamie and Ben eating it.
I live in center of the US and have seen Laksa on menus. but it was far from a good Singaporean (Penang) Laksa. same with chicken rice, so I make my own. hope you at least try to do yourself, it is fun.
I tried several times, but I never got anywhere near where it was like in Malaysia or Singapore. I guess sometimes for me, a really special dish like Laksa also is so delicious because of the memories I attach to it. I think I would travel to Malaysia again, just to be able to enjoy the faboulos Laksa several times more. All the best to you in the centre of the US and have a good festive season.
Ahh I miss Singapore. I used to travel there (or through there) 4 or 5 times a year in the last 10 or 15 years of my working career. Retired now. My personal preference is Pepper Crab with steamed or fried buns to mop up the sauce and a side of seafood fried rice. On a trip there with my twin brother (he flew from California, I from the UK) we found a fantastic Laksa place outside the main city which had won awards... you sat on plastic chairs on the pavement (sidewalk) and were approached by a beer seller who was a separate merchant to the unlicensed Laksa seller. Fantastic rustic delicious.
This video could not have come out at a better time! I'm about to go to Singapore in January and I can't wait to go to these places that you've visted. Definitely sending this video to my mum 😂 Thank you!!
If you guys ever come back to Singapore, there are so many other things for you to try! There’s the Beach Road Prawn noodles that’s located at Upper East Coast road And also a Chinese version of Fish Head Curry that tastes really different from any curry that you guys might be familiar with at NaNa’s Curry at Bedok interchange
One of the things I like about this format is that I think we're seeing stuff from trips, special guests etc, that may not have shown at the time that they were shot but that are still very fascinating to us! So don't feel that you have to put all related things together to post at the same time!
Hokkien mee!!! Where they cook the noodles in a rich pork bone/prawn shell broth and stir-fry at the same time so it has both the wok hei char and the slurpy goodness of soup infused in the dish. If you're looking for something that might challenge without going overboard like a durian, kway chap. Large flat sheets of rice noodles, served in a fairly delicate dark herbal soup, but often includes pig intestines as one of the various sides.
Please come back to try even more food so that you can include them in the cook offs! Flavours in Singapore are so unique, I would like to see how everyone does their own take in the Sorted kitchen!😆😆
Wonderful stuff fellas. I’ve been to Singapore many times and dream of its food especially Nyonya which is a trial to make but well worth it. I also speak Bahasa so just a minor correction on laksa pronunciation, the first (a) is pronounced like the last, more of a U sound. So Lucksah would be closer to the phonetic. We’ll have to wait and see if you had time for High Tea in the series but I hope you did. Singapore really know how to put on a show when it comes to the food experience. Australian Chef in Europe, Steve.
This advent calendar has been such fun! I really appreciate all the hard work that went into it. I'm hoping you might find a way to do it again next year!
A list of things to try when you come back to Singapore 1. Singapore-style Hawker Centre Coffee (Kopi). I highly recommend you to try Kopi 'O'. 2. Minced Meat Noodles (Bak Chor Mee) at Kovan Hawker Centre (e.g. Chun Fu Fishball Minced Meat Noodle, Fa Ji Minced Meat Fishball Noodle and Yam Mee Teochew Fishball Mee). 3. Chomp Chomp BBQ Sambal Stingray at Bedok 85 Market. 4. Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee (Braised Noodles) at Hougang Hainanese Village Centre. 5. Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup at Tiong Bahru Market and Hawker Centre. 6. Hong Heng Fried Sotong Prawn Mee at Tiong Bahru Market and Hawker Centre. 7. Dumpling Noodle from You Cai Wanton Mee at 58 New Upper Changi Rd. 8. Tapioca Cake and Ondeh-Ondeh from Heng Heng Ondeh-Ondeh & Tapioca Cake at Maxwell Food Centre. 9. Claypot Rice from Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice at Chinatown Complex Food Centre. 10. Green Bean Soup, Red Bean Soup, White Wheat Porridge (Pulut Terigu) and Chinese Sweet Soup (Cheng Tng) from Xi Le Ting at Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre.

I don't have a comment but as a Singaporean I want to be part of your video statistics when you look up how much engagement your Singapore videos get so you'll try more of our food and come back for longer!
Ahhh local here who works near Maxwell food Centre and I must say, wonderful video! The laksa stall is one of my personal favorite hidden gems and the oyster pancakes are a bit more well known among locals but not so much to tourists so thanks for trying them out! Also great strategy when choosing the satay stall, picking the one with the longest queue - that’s how we locals do it too! 😂
Yes you have to, and you will, go back! Singapore hawker center roti paratha with chicken curry, that I first tried in 2002 (about $2 AUD back then), remains one of my top 5 foods of all time! The melting pot (*pause...drink*) of Chinese, Malaysian and Indian cuisine in Singapore is so unique and just incredible!
that why my country Singapore is called a food paradise almost every kind of fusion food you can find here hope you come to Singapore again if you guys can please try stay in singapore for at least 2 weeks i'm sure you can explore most of the food we have that way
Next time, you have to try Bakkutteh (meaning meat bone tea)! It's a specialty of Teochew (my people) and Hoklo (Hokkien/Fujian ethnics). It's one of my most favorite foods I can't find easily so whenever I visit Singapore (or the nearby Indonesian island Batam where a lot of my family lives), I always eat a lot of those, and if I had my way, every day!
Great job with all the videos and content, especially the travelling ones make me what to go out and try the food for my self. It would be awesome if there was a guide like this for every city and food.

Ooh wish I'd seen this and the first vid before going to Singapore in March this year. Had some good food but now I have to go again and check some of this out! Thanks SO much for the calendar! Merry Yule! 🌲
Just wondering, did Ben and Jamie get some of those fried buns (man tou) to dip into the chili crab gravy? Because if they didn't, they have definitely missed out on another layer of enjoyment
Normally we have deep fried slightly sweet soft flufy buns to dip into that chilli crab sauce… Next time when you lads visit try Roast Paradise Bbq Pork at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre… Mikey Chen loves it too
A very merry Christmas to you all at Sorted! Thank you so very much for the advent calendar and all the inspiration and smiles you share. Will definately miss my daily video fix. Kind regards from Bulawayo Zimbabwe.
I was waiting for this! And now, I guess that's the end (for now) of your Singaporean Food Adventure. You've hit all the high spots - Chicken Rice, Chilli Crab, Laksa, Fishhead Curry, Satay (at Satay Street!) and my fave - Char Kway Teow. You want more recommendations? 1) Ethnic Diversity - Singapore is a GREAT place to try Indian Food. Head down to Tekka Centre to try Indian food. Geylang Serai Food Centre (currently under renovation, done sometime in 2024), for Malay food. 2) If the Chilli Crab is not spicy enough (Jumbo's Chilli Crab is sweeter and less spicy - some say more "eggy". Longhouse's Chilli Crab is supposedly spicier.) Try Black Pepper Crab, the slightly lesser known sibling of Chilli Crab. Also, you did not order Mantou. It's a fried bun that you can use to soak up Chilli Crab sauce. I once ordered naan from an Indian stall and use that to dip into the chilli crab sauce. Only in Singapore. (And I believe some places offer White Pepper Crab.)
Oyster Cakes, Samy's Curry, Lau Pa Sat Satay Street are all considered old school dishes. These are establishments that have been around in one form or another since before even the 1980s.
I love the advent calendar of videos this month!! Thanks for all the hard work and i hope you all enjoy your vacations after this month and are able to get some rest and relaxation!
The oyster cake was my fav! I also love fish head curry, especially at muthus where they used to have unlimited rice refill. Satay club was so good when they were at Esplanade, just as good when they went to Lau Pa Sak. Not sure if they are still there, not been home for years
Great video! LOVE everything you guys have showcased in the 2 episodes on Singapore food! but I might be biased. :) A tip on the chilli crab. 1 crab is pretty big, and you can ask them to prepare half the crab in chilli and another in black or white pepper. Some might argue that Black Pepper Crab is better than the Chilli Crab at Jumbo.
Oh man, I miss food from that area soo much. Need to go back soon! It's just not the same when I try to make it at home lol. I miss Singaporean Mei Fun as well.
Looking at Asian cruises for next year and a few start in Singapore so you get a few days before you sale there and this is just going to make me want to go even more. Been about 10 years since I was last in Singapore and Malaysia (I grew up there) and I’m long overdue another visit! Food is so cheap there too that you can sample all the dishes and not worry about overspending too
If you can go back, yes, but oh my, there is a huge world to explore. I enjoyed Singapore. Did you ride the big ferris wheel? You really should. What a fun month we are are having!
Theres two words that spring to mind when the Sorted team go on an epic international adventure to discover new food and culture. Tax deductible. Only joking, I'm loving this. I'm hoping a lot of this was filmed earlier in the year and right now you're enjoying a well earned break.
First time viewer here, the content is amazing! For your next trip, I recommend black pepper crab, fried/ soup prawn noodles, Kaya toast, oyster omelette, BBQ stingray, pork ribs soup, bak chor noodles and Punggol nasi lemak!! Our tradition Peranakan food are good too ;)
What a great video!! Made me super hungry😂😂 here are some recommendations to try in the future: • chilli crab with fried bun aka mantou. Different stores serve different types of bun • pepper crab • cereal prawn • prawn noodles at beach rd and u got to order the fried side dishes • Lor mee at Old airport Rd, add some vinegar/garlic at the store • Har chong gai: fried chicken wings in a batter with fermented shrimp paste which makes the chicken wings super fragrant and give it a depth of flavour • Benson salted duck rice at 168 Lor 1 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310168 • for smth fancy you can try pangium at 11 Gallop Road Gallop Entrance, Singapore Botanic Gardens, 259015. They serve many courses so u can try a variety of local dishes.
It's kinda a big boomerang if you think about it as modern Singapore was founded by the British, then Singaporean food appeared in UK and now Sorted is in Singapore enjoying the Singapore food and culture. Have a great one guys!

The noise suppression is working overtime in this one. Bang up job by the editing team! And as always amazing video!
Buy it online. Search for Prima Deli Laksa
Yes!! Pepper Crab is more yummy!. Congratz on your retirement, I'm jealous so I will eat some food from illegitimate sellers on your behalf haha
This video could not have come out at a better time! I'm about to go to Singapore in January and I can't wait to go to these places that you've visted. Definitely sending this video to my mum 😂 Thank you!!
If you guys ever come back to Singapore, there are so many other things for you to try!
There’s the Beach Road Prawn noodles that’s located at Upper East Coast road
And also a Chinese version of Fish Head Curry that tastes really different from any curry that you guys might be familiar with at NaNa’s Curry at Bedok interchange
One of the things I like about this format is that I think we're seeing stuff from trips, special guests etc, that may not have shown at the time that they were shot but that are still very fascinating to us! So don't feel that you have to put all related things together to post at the same time!
Great, now I have to go to Singapore. Thanks for this highlight on food that looks absolutely delicious!
I'm glad the boys had such a great time. I'd definitely love to see more of Singapore.
always warms my heart to see people enjoying food in singapore! ❤
So… unique? Feel like it’s the opposite of that, most, if not all our food is from another country.
A list of things to try when you come back to Singapore
1. Singapore-style Hawker Centre Coffee (Kopi). I highly recommend you to try Kopi 'O'.
2. Minced Meat Noodles (Bak Chor Mee) at Kovan Hawker Centre (e.g. Chun Fu Fishball Minced Meat Noodle, Fa Ji Minced Meat Fishball Noodle and Yam Mee Teochew Fishball Mee).
3. Chomp Chomp BBQ Sambal Stingray at Bedok 85 Market.
4. Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee (Braised Noodles) at Hougang Hainanese Village Centre.
5. Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup at Tiong Bahru Market and Hawker Centre.
6. Hong Heng Fried Sotong Prawn Mee at Tiong Bahru Market and Hawker Centre.
7. Dumpling Noodle from You Cai Wanton Mee at 58 New Upper Changi Rd.
8. Tapioca Cake and Ondeh-Ondeh from Heng Heng Ondeh-Ondeh & Tapioca Cake at Maxwell Food Centre.
9. Claypot Rice from Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice at Chinatown Complex Food Centre.
10. Green Bean Soup, Red Bean Soup, White Wheat Porridge (Pulut Terigu) and Chinese Sweet Soup (Cheng Tng) from Xi Le Ting at Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre.
South East Asian food is just so amazing. Together with Japanese food it is my favorite food.
100% you must return to Singapore and explore the food scene even more. This was a treat to watch!
Awesome video! I’m Singaporean but never know where to bring visitors so I’ll have to co-opt your excellently curated places for friends coming over next year! Glad you guys had a great time!
The "egg omelette" in the laksa is actually taupok, or dried beancurd. It's a key ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine.
And Chinese cuisine...
That banana leaf meal reminded me of home in South India. Love to see that Singapore does it so well!
i used to work near maxwell and i have the oyster cake once a week. it’s so freaking addictive.
Your travels have given me so many foodie destinations! Thanks guys!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
You need to visit us more often for more food tasting! Love to see you enjoying the food here!
Best food/ entertainment channel! No yelling at ppl who don't have experience. ( Except for Jamie yelling at himself)😂❤
that why my country Singapore is called a food paradise almost every kind of fusion food you can find here hope you come to Singapore again if you guys can please try stay in singapore for at least 2 weeks i'm sure you can explore most of the food we have that way
Next time, you have to try Bakkutteh (meaning meat bone tea)!
It would be awesome if there was a guide like this for every city and food.
this December has been incredible with the daily uploads, in the future after december i think we would all enjoy a more structured upload schedule, every “x” days or on certain days of the week
Would love for you guys to come back to Singapore!! Still have loads of amazing food to try
These back to back video posting is amazing. I’m going to crave it after new years :(
Great video guys!!! The best part was the Laksa. Soooo good!!!
Thank you for this wonderful video of a British chef trying out Singaporean street food 👍
I've been watching your videos since the first Sorted kitchen/studio. I am so happy to see Ben and Jamie enjoy the food in Singapore!
Ooh wish I'd seen this and the first vid before going to Singapore in March this year. Had some good food but now I have to go again and check some of this out! Thanks SO much for the calendar! Merry Yule! 🌲
I hope you guys do the full South, Southeast and East Asian food tour. So many countless spots and dishes that must be reviewed.
Just wondering, did Ben and Jamie get some of those fried buns (man tou) to dip into the chili crab gravy? Because if they didn't, they have definitely missed out on another layer of enjoyment
Great to see you guys try the local food at hawkers and coffeeshops even though the weather here can be quite humid! 😊
Normally we have deep fried slightly sweet soft flufy buns to dip into that chilli crab sauce…
Next time when you lads visit try Roast Paradise Bbq Pork at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre… Mikey Chen loves it too
I am confident saying that Laksa could be the absolute pinnacle of human achievement.
I just had lunch and watching this my mouth is watering again!😋
Oyster Cakes, Samy's Curry, Lau Pa Sat Satay Street are all considered old school dishes. These are establishments that have been around in one form or another since before even the 1980s.
😢 the 24th is coming too fast. Going to miss the daily uploads. Thank you guys for all the hard work you've put in
I totally agree, after the 24th, I will have withdrawal syndroms ;-). Having a new Sorted Food video each day is just really amazing.

I really love the advent calendar this year. I am sick most of this month so having everyday something to look forward too is nice.
This video advent calendar has made my holiday season! Thanks, guys 😊
Not sure if they are still there, not been home for years
Like your closing, Clean, Green and food scene is Mean! Do come again, one of the best place u ever Been! 🇸🇬
Singapore food FTW! I'm so happy for you boys checking out my home! ....even though I was on holiday while you came here LOL
This calendar is so much fun! Kuddos to you for doing this and planning so much ahead!
Happy Christmas. This advent of videos was fantastic.
Great video! LOVE everything you guys have showcased in the 2 episodes on Singapore food! but I might be biased. :)
A tip on the chilli crab.
Minds blown. Incredible places I plan to visit, thank you.
So glad that you visited Samy’s curry! It’s my fave place for fish head curry!!
So happy you guys came to my country!! I'm amazed you guys even ate Oyster Cakes...which most Singaporeans haven't even tried before. YAY
Fish head curry gravy flooding the rice is just enough for you to wolf everything down 😃 There also the asam fish head version to try!!!
Would love to see the rest of the boys back in singapore with you guys
Try the kuehs here in sg too if you return. Chwee Kueh, kueh salat, kueh koswee, kueh talam, soon kueh, ang ku kueh, min Jiang kueh, putu piring etc.
Love to see it!! (it's pronounced as "Laak-sah")
So jealous! I'd love to go there some day. Especially Satay Street!
Theres two words that spring to mind when the Sorted team go on an epic international adventure to discover new food and culture.
Tax deductible.
Only joking, I'm loving this. I'm hoping a lot of this was filmed earlier in the year and right now you're enjoying a well earned break.
I’m sad… no one tried the fish eyes! They pop and are so good!
Made me super hungry😂😂 here are some recommendations to try in the future:
• chilli crab with fried bun aka mantou. Different stores serve different types of bun
• pepper crab
• cereal prawn
• prawn noodles at beach rd and u got to order the fried side dishes
• Lor mee at Old airport Rd, add some vinegar/garlic at the store
• Har chong gai: fried chicken wings in a batter with fermented shrimp paste which makes the chicken wings super fragrant and give it a depth of flavour
• Benson salted duck rice at
168 Lor 1 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310168
• for smth fancy you can try pangium at 11 Gallop Road Gallop Entrance, Singapore Botanic Gardens, 259015. They serve many courses so u can try a variety of local dishes.
It's kinda a big boomerang if you think about it as modern Singapore was founded by the British, then Singaporean food appeared in UK and now Sorted is in Singapore enjoying the Singapore food and culture. Have a great one guys!
Clean green with a mean food scene sounds wonderful!
Oysters are my favorite seafood and those fried oyster cakes are calling my name!
Wow... honestly speaking .. who ever sent u this list of places to eat .. besides that deep fried oyster thingy.. u are spot on.. the most famous one for laksa is in the eastern part of Singapore and the curry fish head is in little India...
OMG you went to Sammy’s!!! I grew up on their banana leaf curries! YES you have to go back and preferably take me with you 😊
Aww yeah, Sammy's at Dempsi Road :)
