It really adds insult to injury that these companies are all collecting my data and tracking my activity in order to advertise to me, and yet still almost exclusively show me ads that would never be relevant to me. A huge percentage of my ads on Pinterest are for foods I literally can’t eat due to health restrictions and it genuinely just feels cruel. At this point I would happily pay a subscription for websites/apps if it meant I could have a decent and ad-free experience, but unfortunately they can make way more money off of ads and so most would never even offer that alternative.

happily paying for subscriptions shouldn’t be the alternative to being bombarded to death with ads, subscriptions are getting out of hand and the constant increase of their price. Paying for something that you don’t own. I think ads are fine as long as it’s a reasonable amount. Making the website/app unusable unless the subscription is paid is scammy.
TH-cam should know me better than anyone, but some of the ads I get are insane. There is one particular company I want to block outright, but they don't let you, and they have over 300 ads! When I try, it asks if I want to see less of a category which usually has nothing to do with the company. I THINK some advertisers just pretend to be all these things to reach as many people as possible. It's so frustrating.
If you click on the 3 dots and choose to hide it it will teach the algorithm not show it. You will do it a few times, but take action don't let the ad pass or will teach the algorithm you are the ad's audience
not to mention theres also ways to access them for free too - my public libraries at my city have a “culture pass” that you can check out that lets you go to local museums and other places for free 😊
I think it's important to collect your own thoughts, in addition to collecting ideas. Card files are great for this. When you find something inspiring, get in the habit of jotting down a few ideas for using it in your own work. "Embroider flowers like this on hem of linen dress?"... "Maybe use this color scheme to posterize that photo of dog on boat"... "this pattern would add depth to encaustic mountain background". Otherwise your inspirations just go into a black hole and often you can't even remember why you liked something
absolutely! i casually draw fashion designs in my free time, i have a pocket-sized sketchbook and i will often sketch or take a little note of elements i see in real life that i like and want to include/expand upon in my designs :)
In the Old Days😮, when magazines were delivered to your house, I would note something on a page, rip out the page and put into a file folder and add to it. This was called " a morgue". I still have mine. It's full of craft ideas, home decor folder, fonts, gardens... The "morgue" is tangible, something I can hold and study, put the idea on a focus board. I am very please that you've researched more places for me to get ideas. I hate that pintrest makes me sign in to instagram or Facebook or whatever because I don't have an account there. Nevermind the waste of time signing in every time. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 😊
@@WishyWashyMaybe You can set up your Pinterest to sign in automatically when you open it. Not that I go on Pinterest very often these days but, at least, I don't have to worry about signing in.
I know we're moving away from Pinterest in this video, but there is a useful feature on Pinterest for this. They call it note to self. You'll have to view the pin after saving it to add your note, but I use note to self to solve this problem pretty regularly. 100% agree on the value of analog note-taking, though.
Pinterest is just not as fun as it used to be, there are way too many ads and mostly obnoxious or vulgar. I really appreciate you sharing this information. I can't wait to check out these sites. I am kind of a Pinterest addict for anything arts or crafts. Earlier this year, they took my board away from me for too many violations of pins that are not allowed. They wouldnt even tell me what the pins were to give me a clue. How am I supposed to know what is and isn't allowed when the site is flooded with things that you would think are copyright infringement. I lost tens of thousands of pins that I had been saving for years and had to start all over again, and it still ticks me off. I had so many pins, that I had over 5,000 followers, now I have none. I don't even get the the recommendations for other pins like I used to. Makes me sad, all the time put into saving them. Anywho, I'm glad to find alternatives, so thank you. ❤
@@thylascene my emails about violations don't have images attached though?? they've even stopped giving me that one-time link that's supposed to show you the pin but always just took me to the home page.
@@kimberlyechols7280 That's very sad, I think I've been on Pinterest for almost 10 years now and I think I'd be heartbroken if they deleted my boards that I've been curating for so long 😣.
I don’t like Pinterest anymore because it’s absolutely littered with ADS and AI images. I’m an artist and I need real life anatomy references or other REAL HUMAN-MADE artworks for references. Ai is always wrong in terms of anatomy, lighting and physics which seems like it could severely impact my growth as an artist.
Yes, even if you don’t copy from it! Seeing it all the time probably influences people’s intuitive sense of what things should look like for the worse 😞
Also, lots of museums have digitized collections! And a lot of it can be public domain too. A pain to navigate, but very cool stuff you can see without having to travel + pay admission
THIS IS SO TRUE. It makes the experience MISERABLE. I used to be a Pinterest addict, and I got so sick and tired around 1-2 years ago. Literally you can’t scroll on Pinterest, bc you’ll have to scroll through FIVE ADS IN A ROW. The only way to use the app is scrolling through the home page. It sucks
Amazing! The amount of "violations" from some of my saved pins that literally aren't even bad sends me. Like Pinterest, one its not even mine and two its not even bad
when pinterest sends you a violation notice for a pin it put on your home feed 🙃 I didn’t go looking for this one, pinterest, you showed it to me of your own accord, report yourself, don’t punish me for your mistakes…. and they really are usually not even bad, yeah, especially compared to some of the ads
Yes! All of the time this happens to me. I don't understand. I don't even post anything myself so how am I getting a violation for something Pinterest showed to me on purpose and that I did not post 😭
This is so real, i get a so many violations for like non-offensive memes, old art and, my favourite, i got a graphic violence warning of a picture of a partially peeled orange (it was an art refrence)
@everydayangel A PARTIALLY PEELED ORANGE? Their AI has to be some of the worst on any website I've ever used. And appealing doesn't do anything either. That's so awful oh my God.
I was literally just reporting tons of pins on pinterest the other day because of how insane the ads got recently, thank you so much for speaking about this!
My biggest Pinterest gripe is their search function. There’s no way to specify “this” NOT “that” like with Boolean, or ways to filter. Particularly for AI generated content, now that it’s becoming more common. Plenty of places have implemented a filter for AI content, and at least have the option to specify that something was made partially/fully with generative AI. Pinterest’s UI/UX overall has just fallen so far behind
Also by year. Like Before(year) or After(Year) or During(Year) I wanna see actual outfits from the actual year, not from a watered down version of what minimalist influencers think people wore that time.
I stopped using Pinterest a while ago after it got infested with AI, ads and AI-generated ads, but haven't found any good alternatives. Thanks for this video, it's so helpful!
Thank you for this. I have been on Pinterest since 2011 and have like 25,000 pins. It's a site that's really important to me. I'd love to have alternative places to post and collect things because the site/app is showing its age and is being overrun with ads.
I also hate that a lot of the ads on Pinterest are videos, like even if I do see something I like, I can‘t really focus on it because there‘s three different videos playing on my screen
the surge of AI slop on Pinterest has me wanting to leave nearly as much as the ads. it’s so bad. The fact they don’t require anyone to tag it as generative AI content and so I consequently cannot filter it out of my search results or recommended feed makes it even worse.
It's more ads and AI than actual content... and most of the content is stolen and never properly credited, people will go out of their way to crop out creator's usernames, its gross. I feel myself losing brain cells and my heart strings breaking every time I scroll. Thank you so so so very much for this. You rock, and I hope every artist sees this!!
It's intresting how online platforms that were once used as a repository for indoration and inspo has essentially become one sneaky ad board. Thank you for sharing these because it really is nice to use the interest without having ward off ads and algllritms like pesky flies.
Pinterest was amazing circa 2013. Seriously fantastic. Just blog moms sharing their favorite links, abs emo teens resharing tumblr text posts and Percy Jackson headcannons. It was a beautiful corner of the internet. Then, everything changed when the TikTok girlies attacked. Capitalism took over. It has turned into a shopping/social media app rather than a cool inspiration finder and idea sharer.
The only place where middle aged ladies and weird teenagers got along in peace. I wouldn't even blame TikTok girls, I blame the ads and large companies. Now it's basically just social media. Ads, drama, call out posts, ranting, venting, oh my God. Just because it has an account and we can interact with people does not mean that it's social media and we can bring social media behavior into it. We're there to save images and organize them into piles, not to get likes and followers through shady and toxic ways.
This!!! I’ve been neglecting my boards because I’m over all the ads and constant “pin violations”! The last few violations have been baking pins!! Like what?’
Holy crap yes I hate using pinterest on my phone. On my PC I have an ad blocker and the amount of blank spaces that are there now instead of where the ad would be is insane.
This video was so direct and straight to the point, which is pretty refreshing considering how many things on the internet (including Pinterest. especially pinterest.) are dedicated to wasting your time, genuninely thank you !!!
thank you, i needed this. i feel like im going insane with the amount of ads that look like regular posts on pinterest. like why is this amazon ad just an instagram story screenshot of a bone broth recipe😵💫😵💫
HOLY CRAP YES!!! I put an ad blocker on my browser and deleted the app just to get away from the unbelievable amount of ads. Also as a side note, major respect for immediately getting to the point with your video. I subscribed as soon as you did that thats awesome.
It’s also flooded by AI images and many ads are scams. They are doing nothing to keep people safe. I hate AI images that are not tagged as such. People need to know if the image is real or contrived.
Wow I was just recommended this video, these sites are incredible. I struggle to find decent images all the time and can't stand pinterest, but have been at a loss for other resources. Thank you!
Wow.. I don’t frequently visit Pinterest and didn’t realize how bad it’s become. I just counted my “recommended” section and 13/17 were ads 🤦🏻♂️ Appreciate you putting this list together!
Cosmos is like so good the format feels more minimal so it doesn’t make my brain go crazy, the pictures are so good and the quality?? I’m going to curate it to the point that it is on par with my Pinterest because i just need cosmos to be able to provide me photos and inspo for stuff without making me dig and search for it. Thanks for the recs ❤
my main problem with the many ads in pinterest is that they are scammer websites mostly when you check the credibility and also their ad photo almost always is fake, like that garment it does not exist it is a photoshop photo.
i only find pinterest usable atp bc ive had the same account since middle school and ive managed to beat my algo into submission, but i am really starting to get sick of hitting not interested on every second pin bc its an ad. thanks for the alternative resources
This multidirectional scroll is a cool idea. With the right search engine you could make scroll direction contextual like more of the same kind of image group using k-means or other clustering algorithms to show more of a certain type of image/feel
I didn't even know I needed this video but now my mind is blown! Especially with AI slop taking over so many image based platforms. Thank you so so much 💛💛💛
I looked up “character design” on Pinterest yesterday and it just brought up photos of Kurtis Conner because I’m hyperfixated on his videos and saved too many pins of him 😭
That moment when you're trying to search something up and 0% of the results are related in any way, shape or form to what you just searched. ;_____; Even Google is better at giving you related images. Even Bing. Even literal YANDEX!!!!
One of my faves is old TV and movies. Especially for era-specific things like clothing/hair/general color palletes. Fully googling "60s tv shows" and watching a few eps of whatever comes up
I visited the pinterest office for an event a while ago and I love that you made this video. It's very clear that they care more about profit than actual content
This video is really cool. I just realised how much inspiration is out there and how many tools are available and I really appreciate you for adding the internet archive and libraries at the end. The way that you just got straight into sharing the resources without any fuss was also great, such a well presented and helpful video.
About the ad thing, I always thought people were exaggerating since I’d get very few ads. But whenever I’d connect to the UK wifi that my foreign university uses, the amount of ads I see is insane. It’s like half of all the content is ads.
Also, other people. Talk to your grandma. Visit your local old folks home and chat with them and ask to see pics. Strike up a friendship with the person in your neighborhood whose culture is v different from yours. Babysit some toddlers, see how they play and what stories they make up. Take an art class at your local community center. Take a book rec from a stranger.
The first 24 hours after I downloaded the app on my phone it was entirely wonderful suggestions exactly to my design taste. 24 hours later it was all ads. I went on Reddit and found a suggestion to click “hide” and select “this is irrelevant to me” on every ad you see. Then shut the app and re-open. Now that I’m in the habit and the algorithm is learning that I hate these and will never click, I have to go on an ad hiding spree about once a week to keep my feed nearly ad free. I treat it like weeding a garden.
As much as it drives me crazy it helps me to not scroll for very long because I get fed up lol. If I’m serious about a deep dive into brainstorming for an art project or something, I’ll go on my laptop because it has an ad blocker. On my phone I will often have more ads on my screen than actual pins 🤦♀️
Omg this is literally so true! They are making the app so unappealing, i used to scroll for like 2 hours on pinterest (it's the only app i ever scroll on for longer than 10 mins), but now just being on it for 5 minutes gives me such rage that it isn't even hard to close it.
this may sound silly but if you miss the old pinterest i would recommend using a vpn for it bc i live in pakistan and i don’t see like any ads or ai images on my feed i didn't even know it was an issue for people
Thanks for this video. I've been locked out of Pinterest today. I have no idea why. I agree with many of the other comments...adverts, AI picture clickbait, violations -so why are they still saveable, .
This is really helpful! Just want to add that public domain is both content created before copyright laws as you mentioned, and also includes content that the copyrights have expired for. So over time more and more will content will become a part of the public domain.
This is the most valuable video I have seen in a while and I applaud you for diving straight to the point. I instantly subscribed, thank you so so much!!!!
Thank you for saving me a lot of time and frustration. I've used Pinterest a littl we in the past, but not in at least a year. I've been thinkkng about learning how to use it. Knowing it is full of commercials I won't waste my time. Thanks for the other suggestions.
When I have my ad blcoker on pinterest, its wild how many blank spaces there are with only like two or three images. Even with the blocker, I still get fashion items with a link to etsy. So frustrating, thanks for these alternatives!
Oh, I thought Pinterest just stopped loading properly, I didn't realize all the blank spaces I've been getting were because I got an ad blocker on my browser.
I went to Barnes and Nobles and browsed their crafting/food magazines like you mention going to the library for. I got a cool idea I want to try for a Christmas gift this year. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for the great wealth of resources to try to job my creativity now that interest is too overwhelming to visit.
It’s weird that Pinterest kept notifying me of violations of stuff I saved in my pin folders… when I don’t even own the pics displayed. 😭 A good chunk of them were tutorials and references.
I love some these really elegant solutions to things like public domain, I love digging through it but it can get tedious. I can tell I'm really gonna enjoy my research and design time more, thanks for sharing!
amaaazing collection of great ressources, thank you so much for your sharing! and for all the time and effort you invested in producing such a comprehensive collection and illustrative presentation of these sources 🎉
Wonderful video, I've been looking to ditch Pinterest anyway since every other pin is an ad... Also a bit random, but I really appreciate that you didn't overlay your video with any obnoxious music. It makes videos almost overstimulating when it is added, so I appreciate that you created something much more calming :)
The amount of NSFW ads I keep getting on Pinterest is ridiculous. Most of them are very suggestive, cringey webtoon ads that make me want to gag, and then there's just provocative ads in general that continuously pop up. And then Pinterest has the gall to call my pins violations when they're tame?? Like the only "risqué" things I save are people doing figure drawing poses, but they're not in suggestive positions at all! And then of course there's the damn AI 💀 I was looking for some crochet patterns, but I have to wade through the sludge of fake images. It's gotten to the point where I can't even save animal references without finding some fake AI bats!
this is so helpful! how did you even find these sites? I really struggle to find sites or apps if they're not really hyped up on tiktok and trendy in general
honestly you can just google a question ("what are some good websites for artistic inspiration?") and usually a subreddit will pop up and real people will provide recommendations. this is how i navigate the internet lol
I've started investing in buying actual photo stock packs, that way I get exactly what I want. It's not even that expensive, and I buy a couple packs a year and try and use them as much as possible. Still need to watch the vid but saving it, currently looking for alternatives.

I love that, it's like the Zettelkasten method for art instead of writing!
Yoo, a way to see what violation images were is just dragging the image to another tab (if you're on pc)
@ Pinterest is insane sometimes
@everydayangel A PARTIALLY PEELED ORANGE? Their AI has to be some of the worst on any website I've ever used. And appealing doesn't do anything either. That's so awful oh my God.
I was literally just reporting tons of pins on pinterest the other day because of how insane the ads got recently, thank you so much for speaking about this!
The ads will never go away. They make too much money from them.
I've been so tired of pinterest! It's all just ads and ai now
Thank you for this.
Cosmos in 10 seconds just blew my mind!
the surge of AI slop on Pinterest has me wanting to leave nearly as much as the ads. it’s so bad.
I saw a Pokemon fan art that explicitly, in the middle of the artwork, very visibly said "DO NOT REPOST TO PINTEREST"
Guess what they did?
On my PC I have an ad blocker and the amount of blank spaces that are there now instead of where the ad would be is insane.
same!
This video was so direct and straight to the point, which is pretty refreshing considering how many things on the internet (including Pinterest. especially pinterest.) are dedicated to wasting your time, genuninely thank you !!!
The internet Archive for books and magazines is such a good idea! Thank you
thank you, i needed this. i feel like im going insane with the amount of ads that look like regular posts on pinterest. like why is this amazon ad just an instagram story screenshot of a bone broth recipe😵💫😵💫
I got a reaction pic removed for self harm. It was a drawn reaction pic. Of a stick figure holding its hair and crying. LMAO
Bless you, this is what the internet should be!
You’re so right. I’m sick of all those adds every where! Sometimes feels like we can’t scape them. Thanks for the tips.
Wow I was just recommended this video, these sites are incredible. I struggle to find decent images all the time and can't stand pinterest, but have been at a loss for other resources. Thank you!
Wow.. I don’t frequently visit Pinterest and didn’t realize how bad it’s become. I just counted my “recommended” section and 13/17 were ads 🤦🏻♂️
Appreciate you putting this list together!
Time-Life books were amazing. Pre-internet instructions for everything.
Thank you so so much 💛💛💛
I looked up “character design” on Pinterest yesterday and it just brought up photos of Kurtis Conner because I’m hyperfixated on his videos and saved too many pins of him 😭
That moment when you're trying to search something up and 0% of the results are related in any way, shape or form to what you just searched. ;_____;
Even Google is better at giving you related images. Even Bing. Even literal YANDEX!!!!
One of my faves is old TV and movies. Especially for era-specific things like clothing/hair/general color palletes. Fully googling "60s tv shows" and watching a few eps of whatever comes up
OMG ILY THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! the ads on pinterest where driving me insane
I visited the pinterest office for an event a while ago and I love that you made this video. It's very clear that they care more about profit than actual content
Omg finally someone says something. Like the amount of time I scroll on Pinterest and all I see is ads. So many damn ads!! Is so annoying!
I agree with many of the other comments...adverts, AI picture clickbait, violations -so why are they still saveable, .
thanks i hadn't heard of any of these :) i use unsplash usually when sick of pinterest ads so having more options to look at is really helpful 👍
The amount of ai on pinterest is INSANE!! I hate it sm. Thank you so much for this video!! Eager for better sites
The adblocker I use (I don't know if it's the same one) added an option to remove shopping pins.
Girl! I need to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really needed this!
The ai images, the constant emails and nagging that "you violated our whatever policy" even tho i posted my painting of a marble sculpture face...
Thank you sooo much for this video! I've pressed the like button after literally 3 seconds but loved it till the end
This video is absolutely fantastic. I got obsessed with Pinterest recently but the amount of ads have pissed me off already. Thank you!!
thank you!!!I’ve gotten sick of clicking on a pin and getting sent to an influencers amazon listing or whatever tf 😭 will be trying these
It’s weird that Pinterest kept notifying me of violations of stuff I saved in my pin folders… when I don’t even own the pics displayed. 😭
A good chunk of them were tutorials and references.
i like your energy. most youtubers can be so overstimulating.
Very excited about Cosmos, Thank you! It's like I get to meet a different version of myself while "Clustering".
Wonderful video, I've been looking to ditch Pinterest anyway since every other pin is an ad... Also a bit random, but I really appreciate that you didn't overlay your video with any obnoxious music. It makes videos almost overstimulating when it is added, so I appreciate that you created something much more calming :)
this is super useful thanks for sharing!! i haven't heard of most of these resources before, excited to check them out
I didnt expect coming here to get mindblown. Thanks gal
Ohh, I’m so excited and I’m barely halfway through the video. I could kiss you 💘💕💞💞💗 I can’t wait to try these out, tysm 😭✨
Thank you so much. As an art student, I cant wait to try all of the resources you suggested!!
this needs more views!!! Thank you for all the research you did and showing us how to use these platforms!!!
started using cosmos today because of this video and I really enjoy it so far!
Talk about advice I didn't know I needed. Thank you so much and happy creative times !
I thought I was losing it or being too critical with the ads situation on Pinterest
Thank you for this! I quit Pinterest over a year ago, it was too frustrating. I’m looking forward to checking out these alternatives.
Thank you for sharing the color resources! I have such a hard time choosing colors for crochet projects!
Absolute BANGER of a video, thank you for sharing!!!
that first website looks so good omg thanks!!!
Thanks girl! I love your patterns and your channel!
Seriously so helpful! thank you for sharing all of your resources!! i have so many tabs open right now can't wait to dig in
I’m an art student so this is so helpful!! Thanks for sharing this
actually so glad for this video, i was worried there were no alternatives for it, but i'm glad i was wrong
this is so helpful! how did you even find these sites? I really struggle to find sites or apps if they're not really hyped up on tiktok and trendy in general
honestly you can just google a question ("what are some good websites for artistic inspiration?") and usually a subreddit will pop up and real people will provide recommendations. this is how i navigate the internet lol
I've started investing in buying actual photo stock packs, that way I get exactly what I want. It's not even that expensive, and I buy a couple packs a year and try and use them as much as possible. Still need to watch the vid but saving it, currently looking for alternatives.
amazing resources ♥️ i already use cosmos but i didn't know the other ones!
Thank you so much for this. I used to be OBSESSED with Pinterest, now I hardly go on there. Sick of being advertised to non-stop. The user experience is absolute garbage… I want quality inspiration, not sloppy AI art and fast fashion ads lool.
