Congrats on surving the encounter and taking it down, though. One extra tip I'd like to give you that the other person who commented forgot to mention is that it's a good idea to quicksave on a regular basis in this game. Because sometimes players will do a bunch of stuff, then some giant spider or something gives them a smackdown and they lose a good bit of the progress they made. We've all been there.
If you don’t want to kill animals, you should buy the spell tome..calm.. it is great for leveling up and saves you from having to fight everything ☺️…you should take any arrows you find if you want to also do archery, they don’t weigh anything……when you encounter more of those puzzles…always look up! 😃
Food can help you restore your health, especially when you make soups…other than that, its only super helpful if you are on survival mode ☺️…you also have the healing spell available in your restoration section 😉
Just to let you know I have played this game since it 1st came out and have 100% achievements. To help you get started pause the game and select system then scroll down to controls and select it. You should know what the buttons do. I always write them down for ease. The game music can be turned down in game if you find the dialogue too low under settings. If you are over weight you can place the goods in bodies, chests etc instead of the floor. The analogue sticks are the key to moving aiming and looking. To slow to respond can cost you. If too slow to move or look, select settings. Your healing spell under restoration works like food and potions but never runs out but costs magicka. You can hot key things for ease of use called favourites and under d pad on xbox controller I think it is the same on the switch.
If you follow foxes they will lead you to treasure, but you wont be able to just pick it up...fighting will be necessary. Maybe wait until you are a higher level. You can also play in 3rd person if you like to actually see your character. Have fun.

When you are in the shops and the items list comes up, scroll down to where it says your name and you can access and sell your items for cash.
