The best way to steal from a shop, person or break into a house is crouching, if the eye is closed no one is watching if the eye is open your being watched. Also if you steal from a house and not seen the owner may send some thugs after you. ❤
You can give Lydia anything and she will carry and use it if it is better than what she currently has. Lydia will only die if YOU hit her too many times.
Its a great game, so much to learn and see. You had the correct chest for Klimiks supplies, you just had to press Y when you had it open on the supplies to store them, then go see Klimik to get the reward. Also there is a free wood axe behind the lumber mill in Riverwood on a table.
Yes, you are supposed to put Klimmek's Supplies in that big chest. You actually hovered over it in the items meny at 22:31 If you look at the bottom left of the screen during that timestamp, interface says that you use the Y button to store things.

I can't believe the guards took you all the way to Riften...I guess that is one way to get there.
