The Scariest Ski Run In The World
ฝัง

- Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is the most extreme ski hill on EARTH. I’m still shocked how challenging and dangerous all of the inbounds terrain is. Today we skied what I believe to be the scariest and wackiest inbounds ski run in the world ‘The Dutch Wallet’. It's not scary because of the skiing, it's the down climbing. We also skied some other crazy sketchy lines off Redemption Ridge, Ozone, Mini Ridge and tried Consequence. I love you Kicking Horse!

Finally! Someone who can ski and doesn't slide down the steeps. Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I was out of my comfort zone just watching! Great story telling James - this is something that isn't always commented on but is appreciated - sound effects included. I have to think that the descent down Dutch Wallet is typically done with touring boots so extra points for doing it with alpine gear. Also, looks like you made a great choice with your skis. Thanks for the great videos; this one is exceptional. Kudos.
Thank you so much B Golden! I put many hours of additional time and effort into the little pieces of editing/music so it's super reassuring to hear that you feel like it improves the overall watching experience.
Touring boots and maybe an extra pair of underwear would make the Dutch Wallet execution easier 😂😂😂😂
I feel the exact same way
Kicks your but Horse is such amazing resort with the gnarliest in-bonds terrain in North America by some margin. Great video James and I was crapping myself just watching you get into Dutch Wallet, respect to you and Rob for doing it!!
Thanks Neil... The Horse is demanding but I loved every single step and turn :)!
So stoked to see you come to the horse! Glad you were able to find some local’s favourites 👌
Thanks! Will absolutely be coming back next season!
2 dopes on a rope ...no soap - lol - that was incredible!
hahahahha
Let's go, my dude! Another video of stoke!
Great skiing, man! Stoked I found this page. Things are tough on the east coast right now.
Kicking horse looks so sick!!
I'm glad your channel has blown up! I was with you in the first 1k. To see almost 9k is sick! Keep crushing, bro!
Thanks Jacob! I appreciate you being here from the earliest days. It's the dream to take this thing full time so I can make even better content for everyone!
KH is a beast. Skied a lot of places and while you can find some gnarly stuff wherever you go, it’s the lack of options for an easier run that make KH different. Almost every run starts with a mogul covered ridge off a lift, then a couloir, then trees, then big ass moguls and then a final flat run to the lifts right at end. Definitely a place that forces you to be a better skier.
KHMR is the craziest mountain in NA! You've got to be on your A-game or you can get in serious trouble
Watching this right before ski season! Getting me ready for the winter!
Heck ya! We're almost there!
that looks like so much fun!! keep it up, love your content 😁
Such a blast! Thx StolenMustang :)
Finally decided to subscribe to my first YT channel! James, great stuff! Find your candid commentary to real world and live action very entertaining. You've sold me on Kicking Horse and the other BC resorts.
Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and subscribe! Glad you're enjoying the content and I've inspired you to ski in some of my favourite places. Give me a shout if you have any questions!
Incredible video!! Doing that descent looked terrifying!! Glad the run was worth it! 😂
I'm just happy to be alive 😂😂😂😂
Monstrously glad i can ski vicariously down these crazeeee runs!!! Thanks!!
Stoked to have you cheering me on!
Wow, these runs are just next level!
I know right, it's flipping wild!
After thinking the last video was the best you've ever made...this one is 10x better. I would love to go to KH some day, but for now I'm stuck on the ice coast.
Glad you liked this one :). Keep KH on your bucket list, you'll love it!
Just booked plane ticket to go there Feb 24. Looks like I have to up my fitness level to ski there.
This was without doubt the craziest entry to run I’ve ever seen. Makes me wonder if on certain years there’s enough snow blown on that face to make it like corbets couloir kind of entry. Thanks for the great video.🇬🇧
I'm sure with more snow it would be an easier climb but they would need a Tahoe 2023 level dump to make it close to skiable. Would be epic!
thanks, for all the kicking horse vlogs, not many capture the wide variety of terrain!
Thanks for watching. It is such an amazing hill!
Damn bro! Nicely done....that Dutch Wallet is SICK!! The snow was crazy hard/choppy....good to have sharp edges....get the file out after those days!
I was really wishing I had fresh edges that day hahaha
My favorite music clip is when you let the “Hallelujah chorus” resound when you’re on top of the world at Eagle’s eye restaurant. What a view!!!
Perhaps the most beater free skiing channel with good commentary and turns on legit gnar. Nice work. Get yourself a sidecountry vest like whatvest to easily put skis on your back.
Thanks dude! I love the term 'beater free skiing channel' I'm laughing so hard I almost spat my coffee out!
What's your helmet cam setup and what editing software are you using. Its pretty dialed. @@riseandalpine
These may be the best ski videos of any type on youtube. Ive seen endless hours of Alaskan spine stunt skiing. This is more interesting because it's something I can go and do with minimal budget and maximum pucker effect. I cant imagine nailing Dutch Wallet after a storm. Like falling down an elevator shaft full of love. I would definitely bring a harness and 6mm rappel cord of my own.
Ayye thanks Scott! 'An elevator shaft full of love' hahaha. Bring me along if you have a rappel cord. I wouldn't trust that rope again LOL.
I will now place kicking horse at the top of my bucket list. Thank you.
Killer skiing, you got me to subscribe
Thanks for subbing John! Kicking horse is definitely worthy of the top of the bucket list.
That was so crazy and cool. Looks like such a fun mountain
So Cool! Kicking Horse is the GOAT!
Man, what I wouldn't give to see you stomp some Summit County mountains next year!!
Dutch Wallet reminded me of one of A-Basin's more renown lines on the East Wall.
Josiah! I'd love to do a big US mountain rip and A-basin looks sick. Need to grow this channel bigger and find a substantial sponsor to support me so I can drop the 9-5 and do a huge trip!
You have the best videos
Thank you so much!
Holy s**t! That place is nuts! There’s a traverse at Big Sky I thought was insane, but it looks like I need to up my game! Thanks for taking me along.
Thanks for coming along Steve! I really want to check out Big Sky, it looks so sick!
@@riseandalpine make sure the tram is open. Awesome regardless but that’s another level.
The Dutch Wallet was nuts!!!!!
You guys are ripping it up!!
Yeeeeew
My heart is still pounding 😂😂😂
Super stoked. The hype is real! Dutch Wallet is insane!
Dutch wallet is still in my nightmares 😂😂😂
So helpful for the next time I'm in Golden. The only time I skied Kicking Horse I was caught in a total white out in a place called Feuz Bowl. Couldn't tell up from down but somehow found my way out.
Your crushing it massive !!! Thanks for sharing !!!
Thanks for watching!
Solid expert skiing in some of the finest terrain in Canada. You are living the life my plank riding brother in stoke.
🫡
Kicking Horse is another level. All of the runs he showed...there`s dozens more just like it, right off the goat path
It's the most ridiculous place on earth.. A candy store for steep skiers!
Awesome video. Super gnarly stuff! One place that definitely has some insane in bounds terrain to discover is Arapahoe Basin. Probably not quite as wild as KH but good for sure.
Also, one thing that is always very appealing to see is a view from the bottom of a crazy section, looking back up so we can get a broader view of what you just did. Hard to remember in the natural adrenaline flow of skiing, but just thought I would suggest. Keep up the good videos!
Thanks! I'd love to check out A-basin one day. You're totally right. I always mean to film the run but I get so excited that I forget to turn the camera around.
You guys are amazing skiers! I can't believe there are even legitimate ski runs like this. I wouldn't even hike what you are doing on a lovely summer day, with a wide open trail, let alone ski this stuff.
Thanks! Pretty spooky stuff. I did not enjoy the downclimbing part, but when I'm in my skis I always feel comfortable
After climbing down I was equally frightened watching you walk around without skis on! That’s scary…get off balance and start sliding on your boots…woof. That was definitely a wild experience even from this side of the lens.
That would be one long ass bootpack back up to grab my skis. Glad you could feel how crazy this was from the other side of the lens!
was there in Feb - some of those knife edge goat paths were easily the most sketchy I've ever been on - mountain is no joke and basically an advanced only hill - they probably like it that way
I know right! If you were a beginner you would have no reasonable escape from the top other than a download
James .. that place is insane!! 😁 .. From what I can tell the place has 4 lifts, a Stairway to Heaven lift and hike, and a billy goat's traverse. You passed up the "pee here" sign and I'm certain there were many hidden "shit here" signs as well. You stick your tips out over the gnarliest drops and say, "Looks great" all the time. You are awesome .. You ski lines that we never could because our
skis were just too long ... but we went fast!! Safe safe, sir .. content is amazing.
I think we should start a petition for "shit here" signs across the mountain hahahaa. Thanks for always tuning in Craig! Your comments are always awesome :)
Well documented!! The Dutch trail was crazy. You guys had to climb down for a inbound trail. That’s crazy.
Thanks Sam! Still can't believe it's an inbounds run!
@@riseandalpine welcome!! looking forward to the Nelson video!
good day! you lucked out with the snow AND the weather...nice video
100%... I'll opt for a little less rope down climbing next time but it was awesome!
Excellent skiing... fun video to watch
Thanks Greg!
you kick ass man! attacking these lines. yeeewwwww!!!
Yeeehawwww
The Dutch Wallet is on a whole other level with that sick entry. Thoughtful of the KH ski patrol to leave that rope for anyone who's crazy enough to use it...yeah, I would. Reminds of Aiguille du Midi... in Chamonix.
Oh man I have always dreamt of Chamonix... That's one I need to check off the bucket list
Best video yet. KHR is badass.
Thanks Eric!
The traverses you guys are making to get to the runs scare the friggin heck out of me. I can't believe these runs are part of an official ski resort. The entrance to Dutch Wallet is an official part of the trail?! Crazy!
I too can't believe this stuff is inbounds. Such an insane resort! Gotta love it 😂😂😂
Great ski Adventure⛷ loved the Rope descent
Thanks Marcus! That rope descent got me sweating real good.
The double dutch was gnarly as hell, pow brahs!!
Thanks for sharing🎉
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed
God that looks awesome! I've got a van conversion in the works, and I just added Horse to the list of places I've gotta go when it finishes.
As an aside, this is the first vid on your channel I've come across. But if they're all this quality I'm gonna smash subscribe really fast. Excellent stuff!
Thanks Travis! You gotta drop by horse. Would love to see the conversion when it's all wrapped up!
You know your having a good ski day when you feel inspired to play the “Hallelujah chorus”!
You betcha!
Did the Dutch wallet last March. Was the most memorable experience on a mountain anywhere. Kicking horse I'd hands down my favorite resort. With 20cm of snow it would blow your mind how good it can be.
We are dutch brothers Steve!!! Kicking Horse is absolutely #1. I'd give up one of my fingers for a full on pow day with everything open.
@@riseandalpine new sub to your channel. Great content. I've had a few waist deep pow days on that mountain. It's heaven on earth. Will be there again next march. Keep the great content coming. Glad I found your channel
@@stevebrunke5003 Hopefully I'll see ya there in March. Thanks so much for subscribing dude. It's great to see YT recommending my videos to some new eyeballs!
Great video! Where did you mount your enforcer 104 free? On the recommended line or did u go more forward?
your killing it man
Thanks!
Wow. Great video of my favourite mountain. The Horse is significantly better in a good snow year. 2022-23 had the worst coverage I have experienced in 15 years. Head back 2023-24 with big Pow and the place blows your mind.
Worst coverage in 15 years and I had the best time ever hahha. Can't wait to go back with some more snow!
Great footage fellas
Thanks Greg!!
I was there 17 years ago, just getting from the lift to the first run was a bloody challenge! awesome place
Gettin the Stoke 🙌🏻
Choking on Stoke at KHMR!
Some sketchy stuff. Nice vid. ⛷
Sketchy for sure haha. Glad you enjoyed!
Awesome video, I felt like I was right there with you riding the horse!
Thanks for coming along!
Those Nordica Enforcer 104 frees are epic skis!
Super fun ski - can handle it all with ease
Awesome vid. I'm partial to Red. This place frightens me.
Kicking Horse is absolutely frightening
Great video! Seriously though, climbing down to a run with sketchy rope and not one carabiner? I started bringing rope around with a couple carabiners in case one of my buddies fell into a tree well. Never thought I could potentially use it to help get to a run 😂😂
😂😂😂 There were definitely a few ways we could have made that safer LOL
That was great! You can keep that Dutch Wallet. Ropes, rocks, trees - like an emergency rescue training area in the middle of a ski run. Yak. But what? Do you have a little drone over your head like an angel’s halo? Obviously, I’m not savvy like that. I loved all the “WTF??” moments. And yeah, your rope tying skills are interesting 😹
Me, bad with knots.. noooo ;) 😂😂😂😂
Glad someone didn't have to do rescue training coming to get me hahaha. I've got a 360 camera on my head so I can capture everything when I'm doing kooky things in the mountains.
Thanks for tuning in Barb!
Kicking horse is the toughest mountain youll find. Its is not for beginners as there is only expert and i mean expert runs from the top. I love it!
It's absolutely mental. I love it too. Top of my list.
Two words. Red, Mountain.
jackson hole
Yea well he could tell us where he is at. State, county, Aep tea….
T-A-O-S! Yes Taos is this tough, though we don’t have any rappel into chutes. Dutch Wallet? How about BYOR? (Bring your own rope) a harness, a figure eight and a clean rope would be much safer than a rope with all those knots.
i was there just a week ago, did whitewall for the first time. definitely my favourite resort!
Unreal Noah! Whitewall is amazing.
That is absolutely insane. Glad you made it through there alive. Horribly unsafe way to climb down that cliff.
I survived. My underwear did not 😂😂
What’s the proper way to climb in?
It’s not unsafe, I’m sorry but you clearly are just not an adventurous type.
That’s fine, not everyone has the courage to do this type of stuff, however calling it “unsafe” is simply not true.
This risk of death is very minimal, broken bones heal.
@@corneliusblackwood9014 broken bones is unsafe
bro we gotta get u in a knot tying class haha. sick vid!
Yes Please. I'm knot tying level zero! Any recommendations?
Some challenging run!
That rope climb had me spooked!
That was a freaking blast, damn skippy bra!
so crazy!
A half hitch at the ski tips would have kept the skis oriented the right way. Love your channel.
Thanks Todd! That's a great idea. I'm so miserable with knots, but after this, I'm thinking about getting the basics down.
that rope one was something else!
Totally spooked me out haha
10/10 chill soundtrack.
Glad you liked it!
Looks really intense! The Dutch Wallet in particular looks absolutely ridiculous.
The dutch wallet was very very ridiculous hahaha
I know that go pro does visuals and adrenaline factor no justice. You killed it like a BOSS.
Thanks Randy. To some that climb might have been dead easy, but heights can really get to me. Felt good to push the limits!
Great vid
Thank you :)
that rocked
Thanks!
Awesome video ! What’s the song around 6:10 called ?
This is Sick! Have you ever been to Utah? We have something like the Dutch Wallet at snowbird
Never been to Utah - I really want to make the trip out there next season!
That's fucking awesome. Looks like an amazing resort and tons of good time.
Such a killer time!
Dutch wallet has made me want to ski again after 25 years. Great video. 3 hrs away from home. Hmmmm
Your drive will take about as long as it took my to climb down like a scaredy cat hahah
This is certainly a bucket list place for me. I wonder if it's still worth trekking there this season from the Prairies?
It was still good last week! There has been some warming so it might need a fresh snow fall
A kinda-sorta-ski-rappel into inbounds terrain? Jeeeez I can't wait to get to Kicking Horse next year (but you won't see me doing that.)
I would not recommend Dutch Wallet without a second set of undies 😂😂
You will not get me down the Dutch Wallet, no way. It's amazing..
🤣🤣🤣 You might not get me down it again either :)
Yeah, that rock rope decent looked way sketchier than my 5 meter hand only decent down in a cave a while ago. I would SO love to send some of the stuff there!
A hand descent into a cave sounds pretty wild. Where is this cave? I need to know :).
First time I skied Consequences was by accident. Fully socked in I just wanted to look at the entrance but didnt know where it was, suddenly I was 20 feet in the air and fuly committed to the line hahaha what a blast
hahahaa that's absolutely wicked. I couldn't even imagine navigating that ridge in the fog. You've got donkey balls my friend.
Yeeeeeowwwwwzzzzzzahhhh! Dutch wtf! Awesome to see tho😅
I think they need to rename it hahaha
This video makes me realize I don't ski T1 enough. Usually just lap CPR ridge and the chair.
T1 was my absolute favourite. Those chutes back in towards the resort like truth dare and consequence are unbelievable!
On a great day One Trick Pony used to be one of my favorite lines at KH. Get into the chute, ski the face, then hook a larry and send er off the lower cliff into an untouched powder landing
I'd love to follow you into that on a pow day!
Kicking horse is fun as hell
the funnest!
Wow…ICE!
Going back to KH this January. Was there in January 2022 for a 35cm+ powder day so I didn’t do much fun stuff (it was incredible all around anyways.) What are the must do’s for an “expert” snowboarder who hasn’t done much extreme skiing like this.
It's funny how you don't want powder at this mountain if you want to explore! To be totally honest, everything is a must do hahah. For experts there is terrain everywhere. I'd say Ozone, and T1 are absolute must dos.
Check out my full review video if you want to learn more: th-cam.com/video/O53d2-YH0Y8/w-d-xo.html
Gotta wonder, James, why Rob the Mountaineer was down the rope in 2 seconds while you took what seemed to be an agonizing hour….just wondering 😅
My ski buddy Andy and I stopped at KH on the way to Revelstoke (from Maryland) a while ago and Andy’s wearing a stocking cap, while everyone seems to be wearing a helmet. So Andy inquires if they are mandatory. The answer was “no, but everyone wears one”. Andy bought his 1st helmet! It’s easy to see why. The mogul hill that looks you in the eye from the entrance reminds one of a sheer wall…
Rob is half man half billy goat... Me, my pants were filled with s**t. According to physics I should have gotten down faster.
Glad to hear Andy's wearing a helmet these days. Kicking Horse will have that effect on people LOL.
I love your videos pls reply😂❤
Thanks so much for watching :). How are ya!
How long were the hikes to the couloirs? how does this compare to Whistler's toughest runs?
Some of the couloirs and chutes are right off the gondola. The t1, T2 and Ozone hikes are about 20 minutes. On par with some of Whistler's toughest but Kickinghorse has way more extreme terrain per acre!
Gotta love a double black diamond traverse.
The absolute spookiest!
The poop thing is the worst in the morning on the runs. Tough drop in.
I'm glad we can relate 😂😂😂😂
Nice
What a boss
Wow. So gnarly and tight. Narrow and steep.
Pretty spooky!
Hahaha when a guy like us says "Oh shit!" You know it's bad 😂
😂😂😂😂
