I cannot stop talking about it. The dude was a body length ahead at the 100... there are no words to talk about how valuable that is in this relay. Every other team in their heat was shell-shocked watching that, and i am sure it motivated his guys a ton. I selfishly wish ASU led off Marchand so i could watch them go at it.
I don't think he revolutionized it so much as he is (right now) the ultimate avatar of that revolution. What bothers me a bit is that it kinda ruins the difference betweent strokes. The guy that wins the 400 IM is the guy that can do the best butterfly kicks (who also happens to have the best breaststroke pullout lol), who of course also wins the 200 IM, puts up the fastest time in the 200 free and probably could do the same in the 200 fly. Not because he is the best freestyler or flyer, but because 75% of the race is underwater kicks.
If Foster got outtouched I feel like that would just be so mentally shattering and demoralizing lol. Crazy he split 1:30.1 and looked slow next to Marchand at the end there
Marchand going halfway underwater off every turn in a 200 is something I've never seen before. His leg strength and lung capacity must be off the charts.
The first 3 Texas swimmers’ stroke counts were like 12 going down to 13 or 14 towards the final 50s. Then I started watching Marchand and he does 8 strokes going down to 9. He plays this sport differently.
I appreciate the coverage but how on earth are you still only uploading in 720p in 2023. Please at least do 1080p (should really be in 4k though). Thanks!
Why did Rowdy so casually say 1:28.4?😂😂 He must have been at such a loss for words which is rare from him when he is rattling off splits in the 200 medley relay and freaking out over fastest ever splits. Props to Luke but definitely thought 1:28.4, first ever under 1:29, deserved way more hype from Rowdy.😂
Bro Leon literally fighting thru waves n still going 1:28.4 is insane props to Hobson wow I saw flip on the 100 mark 43???? LOW is insane and I thought he was on track on breaking Farris record props to the texas boys
Does anyone know how much Marchand's 1'28"42 at the start would be worth, without the relay advantage ? To compare with Luke Hobson's 1'29"63. Dean Farris' record (1'49"15) seems pretty close.
@@Hell2000 Thanks... So in a good day, we can think that Léon Marchand can swim the 200y free about 1'28"95... unprecentended in short course ! If we think of long course (taking into account the advantage of the underwaters for him) , we can said (while remaining cautious) that he's already under 1'45", maybe 1'44"... a very good news for the french relay !
@@Hell2000 Too bad indeed, he could have broken the record. I think the team was counting on a faster 200y from Grant House at the start, with Leon at the finish to win.
I think a perfect relay start is about 0.7 faster than flat start. Marchand's reaction time was 0.16, which is very good, but obviously could have been slightly faster. So I'd estimate he would have been about 1:29.0 flat start. You also have to consider that he may have drafted off Carson Foster a little bit (you can see he's swimming right on the lane line to try to do this). I truly think that this had a lot to do with Jason Lezak's legendary 46.0 in 2008.

Honestly Marchand is making me lose my love for short course (especially yards) swimming. In my opinion he completely breaks the game because of how good his underwaters are. Let's be real. @verward This comment aged poorly, they both split 1:44s on the 4x200 free relay and outsplit him by a second in freestyle on the end of the 400IM in long course at world championshis in Fukouka. Sure he's better shortcourse but he's still one of the top freesylers in the world long course.
