  • Thomas Robert "Tom" Laughlin (August 10, 1931 -- December 12, 2013) was an American actor, director, screenwriter, author, educator and political activist.
Laughlin was best-known for his series of Billy Jack films. He was married to actress Delores Taylor from 1954 until his death. Taylor also co-produced and acted in all four of the Billy Jack films. His unique promotion of The Trial of Billy Jack (TV trailers during national news and an "opening day" nationwide release) was a major influence on the way films are marketed.[1]
In the early 1960s, Laughlin put his film career on hiatus to start a Montessori preschool in Santa Monica, California; it became the largest school of its kind in the United States. In his later years, he sought the office of President of the United States in 1992, 2004, and 2008. He also was involved in psychology and domestic abuse counseling, writing several books on Jungian psychology and developing theories on the causes of cancer.

Me Too! When I was just a little girl, I saw Billy Jack and, I don't know how to explain it, I fell in love with him, you know? All my little friends had star idol crushes and fan girl squealed every time they saw them but me? No I never did, I couldn't explain it then but as the years went by I realized that those "typical" icons were just blah, fake and shallow to me, Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin) was real and a hero and he was beautiful, not just on the outside but his soul was beautiful too. The only other "young love" I had during that time was another beautiful man named Winterhawk, I saw the movie (with the same title) around the same time in my life and instantly fell in love with him too. It was who they were and what they represented that was beautiful to me and it was then that I learned my heritage, through a long discussion with my mom, I am of Native American blood and I think the Great Spirit has just always been with me! I started my life in Hawaii and then moved to New England and I always felt ashamed of the color of my skin, because I look like a "pale face" or in Hawaii it was "Haole" and I was ashamed of what the "white" people did to the Native Americans and to the Hawaiians they have done horrible things as well and I didn't like that my skin color represented such horrible connotations. It is only the color of my skin, it's not what is in my blood, in my heart and in my soul.

I have mixed feelings about the Indians. I understand they have been treated badly over the years. The problem is? Originally the European colonies who came to America were not enemies towards the Indians. It happened when the colonists tried to move into more territory because they needed more room for their families. They were not trying to take the land away from the Indians. But the Indians started a war over it? And they lost?

According to the Bible, Thomas Laughlin went to burn in Hell on December 12th, 2013, because he never trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Jesus clearly stated in John 3:3, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." The Word of God warns us that anyone who dies in their sins without Jesus Christ will be cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:15).

Did you read anything about Tom Laughlin's Life...at all? He and Jesus' Gospel were all there for the reading and seeing. I know Jesus values good actions done in His Name and learning to Love everyone a lot---ya think?
Tom Laughlin lived Christ's Message and Teachings and I'm seriously wondering about you. "Let him who is without Sin...cast the first stone."
Just who might you be to sit in Judgement of Tom Laughlin and decree his Final Verdict before God?---
That's reserved for God alone...and not for you or any man...ever.

After becoming disillusioned with Catholicism, Tom immersed himself in Jungian psychology, writing books and counseling friends. "He was an extraordinary Catholic for about five minutes," Teresa Laughlin told The Times, "but once he found Jungian psychology, it supplanted everything else."

They didn't have a $100,000,000 million dollar budget for their films for one thing. Another is the time it's set in were Vietnam War era,Make love, not war. You may not have liked it but others did. The Billy Jack budget was
$800,000 dollars and it made $40,000,000 dollars in the theaters. Most of the cast in the movie were Not actors, just people they knew, plus one of their daughters. So for the most part I'd say they did a pretty good job of it.

Not only were they bad actors, but their politics and themes were political leftist propaganda: white men are bigots and evil, the Vietnam war was evil, the native Americans were pure and good, the corporations were all evil, etc. Typical leftist stereotypes and propaganda. I remember seeing “The Trial Of Billy Jack” and my friend and I left the theater in disgust with the overt propaganda. No nuance at all, just pathetic generalizations.

Are you serious? You're probably 1 in just a handful of people that dislike the Billy Jack movies. I agree that the acting was just sub par. But the meaning of the movies is what counts. Billy Jack (aka:Tom Laughlin) was a lot of us young folks hero. There weren't too many famous icons to look up to at that time. But he was definitely a hero any & all generations can look up to.
