I was born near Laguiole. This is a shame for this small village that such a low quality knife produced in China or whatever country in Asia can legally bear the name of Laguiole.

I greatly respect these hard working people. It’s sad that they are hard working in such conditions….safety is really non existent….if they become injured, then I guess it’s too bad so sad and they become beggars squatted on the street. This is what certain people call “the good ol days” of which we are headed towards if we allow it here in America.

Tip of my hat for these skilled workers, but for 150 years these knifes were made in factories with modern tools. Technologies assisted by automatic machines are preferable.
@@brokenrecord3523 To me they are both and a quick question how many knives etc have you made. I worked with a guy many years ago that did the most amazing metal carving etc all by eye he had done the same thing hundred's of times and i can tell you it takes skill that most do not have.
As a professional bladesmith and blacksmith I'm telling you all these "knives" are garbage. Buy legitimate handcrafted knives from an actual bladesmith. Or don't but you get what you pay for.
This is not the real Laguoile knife factory, but an Indian knock-off factory. I visited Lajuiole in 1998. I later sold the knives online until they figured out they could do it themselves. I have several of the knives and a steak knife set. Very beautiful and amazingly handcrafted knives!

The mark of a true craftsman is to make a very hard job look easy and you guys are true craftsman very nicely done.
These guys are skilled labor, not craftsmen. Not dissing them, but the 1000 mile stare gives it away.

A lot of skill demonstrated in making these knives. The molten salt bath gives each blade a uniform temperature prior to quenching. Nice touch.
