As a Black man I am still amazed that it seems I have to justify why and that in fact I have a country station locked in my car radio. There are times I’m just feelin’ country. 🇿🇦🇺🇸
Man, we need A LOT more country songs that shine light on real-life struggles like this. I love country music but I'm beyond tired of the ear-candy party anthem garbage that's dominating the radio today. Way to go Vince Gill!!!

But, even more so for the way you’ve lived your life all these years! I love your stories about your dad! I had a dad that was the same way! Your stories make me laugh and remind me of my dad! Dude you captured a truly magical moment. Thank you and thank Mr. Gill for your courage. When I first spoke up about my abuse one family member said I remembered incorrectly, maybe just made it up. Perpetrator denied it said i was accusing her because I probably abused my own kids. It nice to live in a time when victims are finally being heard. I lost my virginity to someone that I should of been able to trust without a thought. I lost my innocence and my sense of family at a very young age. I tried to drink it away (sober 24 years now) but that turned out not to be a good idea. Moments like the first part of this video truly give me hope. I keep getting “Forever changed”.

Anybody who has been abused should talk about it,i know from experience.Nobody has the right to lay a hand on anybody else,especially a child.Vince gill is my fav singer good for him to be brave and talk about it.
Unhappy to hear of Vince's abuse. Glad another MAN is making this SO public. I have a son & grandson, who of course aren't famous, but have worried about their safety as well. We should revisit LOUDLY about males that this ALSO effects. Even if a career hasn't boomed out of it. Thank you, Vince for taking a stand & I'm sorry this happened to you & any one else!
Message is GREAT! Lyrics are GREAT! Musically it is not much. Because of timeliness of message and big name artist probably would sell millions anyway.
NotADoc I doubt very seriously that Vince wrote the song with the mindset toward impressing you, me or anyone with the musicality of it. The message is all that matters.
