Found this on reddit and really enjoyed the power grade work flow. Can't really seem to figure it out as im working with Flog2 and Resolve does not have a proper CST for that, so the grade is def odd. But its been fun to play around with. Trying to make it work haha Thank you!!!

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I used an old Canon ENG lens to get the zoom. It uses a battery to power it and has a zoom function on it. It's a parfocal lens so everything stays in focus for the whole zoom range.
I think you'd mentioned in another video you updated this process by using Dehancer for grain and halation, as well as the MaxSat powergrade and a Tetrahedral interpolation DCTL. Could you explain a bit those last two additions and how they fit into this existing node structure? Thanks!
Hey! Since this video, I've changed the node structure a bit. I add a CST at the beginning and then my adjustments, followed by another CST. I then add my LUT, the DCTL's, Dehancer, and whatever else I feel like adding after that.
@@RAKKProductions Is the first CST going from the V-log to ArriC, and then the second one is ArriC to Rec709? And last question, the tetrahedral DCTL is just placed somewhere along after that second CST? I'd used the "tetrahedral LUT interpretation" setting in Resolve before, but never this DCTL, so I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it does. Thanks so much for your help! The GH5 is a massively underrated camera I've been a huge fan of for years, and you're the only cinematographer who's gotten every little bit of that potential. I have a GH5s and was building a custom Canon ENG lens setup as well as shooting BRAW with it via a Blackmagic monitor and there's nothing that comes close to that setup in terms of cost and quality. Probably only the FX3 rivals it for quality, but that camera at least *feels* like it can be transformed less by a film-like grade and just for the body alone one could get an entire GH5 package with every bell and whistle. Truly amazing work you're doing, and I'm extremely excited to give this grade a try!

You're welcome! The LUTs Juan made are very well done. I believed he did a bunch of colour matching and profiling when I he was making them. And they're free too!

I shot on BMPCC 6K Pro in the flat film profile and in color space transform put: input color blackmagic video gen 5 input gamma: blackmagic film and output same as you show in video (Alexa and ARRI LogC). I just end up with a log shot that has no grade on it…

Hey! That's strange. I use a pretty beefy PC. Try deleting some nodes like the grain node. It may for whatever reason think FIlmConvert is still in the PowerGrade causing it to slow down. Resolve 18 has kind of been a pain to use and quite buggy. Hope this helps!
I am getting a render error when trying to render clips with the SUB with FILM EMULATION power grade but not the sub. The halation nodes seems to be the issue also seems to be very strong, any tips? Thanks
I'm not really sure, unfortunately. I've had issues with Resolve giving me an error on one clip due to the clip corrupting in Resolve or even with an effect.
when I add the power grades my play back just becomes super choppy and laggy, I've tried changing the resolution and optimizing the media but nothing works. is there any way around this?
Ive been playing around with these all night and im loving it so far! Quick Question though - Is the Sub Color technique supposed to be causing some colors to clip? I've noticed that while using the Sub Color trees it causes the colors in a lot of shots to clip out, especially the reds, giving them an extremely over-saturated look. I know the point of the sub-Color technique is to give a lot of colors a specific richness, but is the clipping out intentional? If not, should we just be raising to the HSL/HSV gain wheels to correct it?

I’ve been trying this subtractive method for a bit, it’s good. I’ve been trying something different recently which is to get a CMY layer node tree by removing the rgb inputs from the original file and add the CMY together. It’s pretty effective. I find that if you produce a prior layer node tree that gives you an output with 100%sat in the rgb the you don’t need to put sat anywhere else. The saturation effectively comes from the density of the CMY. For contrast I’ve been trying something else rather odd. I found out that contrast was often produced in film by overlaying the colour negative with a bw negative. Essentially darkening image through luminance only. I’ve created a separate overlay after the fact near the end.
Thank you very much for sharing these powergrades, but would you say that the halation affects on the v3 powergrade is much more realistic then the v2? Since that's what I primarily used the v2 powergrades for.

You can with the second halation node using the curve! If it still seems harsh, you can lower the output of it all together.

You have Halation 1 and 2. Do you turn both on or you just use one at a time?
