That chocolate sauce is very likely ‘mole’ which is a classic Mexican sauce and probably the most difficult sauces to make… it’s got about 15+ ingredients (including chocolate) and in my opinion should be considered one of the mother sauces in cooking😊
I took a cooking class in oaxaca where I learned how to make black Mole. It's delicious and it had 30 ingredients or so. We remade it a month later at home and it took us 4 hours 😅 but so worth it.

The writer of the book, script, director (Lasse Hallstrom) and one of the best group of 10 or so actors to be in a film together. The talent in that group is over the top, especially Juliette Binoche and Lena Olin (reuniting after working on The Unbearable Lightness of Being early in their careers), Judi Dench Johnny Depp, Alfred Molina, the lovely Leslie Caron, Peter Stormare, John Wood and others. Just a stellar cast. And, the young actress playing Anouk was terrific, as well. I can't think of another movie with that many talented actors.
Lol yesss. It’s actually a classic Mexican sauce and even though it does have chocolate the sauce should taste spicy/savory/nutty with a dash of sweetness.. it goes great with chicken and rice
