It's call consistency and it's very important to have with a more story centric show like this. Certain shows like SpongeBob essentially presses the restart button at the end of every episode as it focuses more on bite size stand alone episodes that rarely references older ones, and when they do it is done in a little way, like how they had an episode bringing back Bubble Buddy from the older seasons. Shows like Amphibia and Gravity Falls keep consistency because it keeps the audience engaged with the world, like how Bill Cipher first debut in Dreamscaperers and later in Sock Opera where he tells Dipper he "likes his guts" for how he and Mable outplayed him back in that episode and why made him that offer to help him with unlocking the laptop in order to trick him and steal his body. If a story centric show took the SpongeBob approach and reset the stage at the end of every episode, then the audience has no reason to care for the world and characters if everything they learned and the new concepts introduced to the world are completely forgotten in the very next episode
